Part 2
Location: The Bronx, NEO New York City
Time: 1:40 p.m.
Birds chirped overhead, flying in the blue sky.
“Jeez, I thought that orientation would never end.”
A male voice broke amid a sea of chatter in the surrounding area.
The sound of chatter was prevalent around the two individuals. Turning his head, a male individual stared at the busy rush hour street.
Kazuhiro Matsumoto.
Sitting sideways in a chair, dressed in a thin, blue jacket over his white v-neck t-shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers.
Without moving his head, Kazuhiro placed his left elbow on the table, taking hold of a cup in his left hand.
“It’s been a while since we've been together like this. With the way our work schedules are, it is nice to have moments like this every once in a while, wouldn’t you agree?”
Silence.
There was no reply to his question.
The lack of response caused him to turn his body toward the table, facing the person who was also sitting at the table.
Reiko Matsumoto.
His sister.
The younger of the two.
Right now, she sat opposite him across the table, wearing a black open blazer over a black turtleneck sweater, black pants, and black sneakers.
Her mind was somewhere else right now.
In her right hand was a brochure from the school they had left in hope of helping Haruko with his new powers.
Kazuhiro slightly leans his head closer.
“Heellloooo, earth to Reiko.”
The voice startled Reiko, causing her to nearly jump out of her chair.
“Woah there, I don’t need you to hurt yourself, sis.” Kazuhiro said before lightly chuckling.
Calming herself down with a deep exhale, Reiko spoke.
Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.
“Don’t do that; you know that I hate that.”
With a smirk on his face, Kazuhiro sat back in his chair.
Reiko turned her attention back to the brochure on the table.
“You seem very hell-bent on this.”
Reiko sighed.
“How can I not be? It's been almost a week, and with the way Haruko’s powers are going, I doubt he will fully be able to control them at the rate he is going. It is best to get a handle on it now while we still can.”
Kazuhiro looked at his sister as she took a sip out of her cup.
Grabbing his cup, Kazuhiro spoke.
“Between him, with his, in your words, otherworldly powers, and Jayden, who can ignore the laws of physics...”
“Don’t forget about Alexis,” Reiko said as she placed her cup gently on the table with both hands.
“How can I not?” Raising his cup to take a slip.
Removing the cup from his lips, he spoke.
“Who would’ve thought that the small child and two infants we had pulled out of the rubble almost thirteen years ago would turn out like this?”
There was silence between the two.
Suddenly, Kazuhiro felt his phone vibrate in his right pocket.
“Hold on, I’m getting a notification.”
As he reached for his phone, Reiko's phone began to vibrate and beep in rapid succession on the table.
A notification was now being received on her phone.
Grabbing her phone, Reiko could hear other phones in the area begin to beep all the same.
A few of the people passing by started to slow down, while others stopped staring at their phones.
Reiko began looking around.
It was an eerie sight for the woman as she stood up from her seat.
Reiko quickly turned her attention back to her phone.
"What's going on?”
“I don’t know; it appears that there was a citywide alert that most likely went out to everyone’s phone, probably an emergency alert.”
Reiko turned her head at Kazuhiro.
“What’s going on?”
Kazuhiro read the alert that popped up on his phone.
“At 3:30 p.m., an announcement is to be made to the entire city.”
