Chp 18

“Looks like it’s a fight they want! Zen do you have your knives?”

“In my dimensional pocket. If we…stop long…enough to…breathe… I’ll get them out.”

They ran behind a stone building and Zen did as she promised, expanding her dimensional pocket to look for her knives, the ones Marie Elena had given her. Luckily she didn’t have to search long and she grabbed the pair of knives strapping them to her shoulders and popping back her dimensional pocket to its carry-on size, a watch.

Isaias inspected the knives. “Uncle give them to you?”

Zen shook her head. “Marie Elena didn’t want them and gave them to me for this trip among other things like spare changes of clothes etc. The funny thing is that all the clothes are fighting style.”

“She must have had a presentimiento again. She’s good with those.”

Zen nodded and turned to Marco who was strapping a long knife to Edline’s waist.

“Use this alright? It’s just like your blade back at home.”

Edline nodded. “What about you Marco?”

Marco grinned and pulled out his dimensional pocket. Then he surprised everyone by taking out another specialized gun and a sword. He winked. “Gotcha covered little sister don’t worry.”

Edline smiled and hugged her brother around his waist

Marco patted her head and stood beside Isaias who had two whip chains hanging off his pants belt loops while he held onto the Destroyer he was gifted with on joining the Guerreros. ”I think everyone is fairly suited up for war…so,” he cocked his gun dramatically while Marco rolled his eyes and Zen and Edline smiled. “let’s go get some!”

They walked out of the building’s eaves cautiously and into the streets looking both ways like lions on the prowl, straining their ears for any noise. Zen heard it first.

“Run,” she screamed, grabbing Edline’s hand and taking off for some trucks on the streets. A few seconds later, rapid-fire burst out and everyone separated running in different directions.

Isaias slammed into an old car with his Destroyer in front of him. He looked around for the others spotting Marco not too far ahead. He noticed he was in a ring of cars. That could help with hiding from whoever is pelting us with gunfire or it could work against me with exploding projectiles assuming they don’t have other means of weapons at their disposal. Then he smelled something burning. Is that gas? He looked for the smell and noticed that the car had a leak and was now on fire. “Shit!” He scrambled up and ran to another car. Thank god I wasn’t leaning against that hunk of junk!

“There you are rat!”

He rolled to another car and cocked his gun tit and shot several rounds. A wall of fire rose and neutralized the bullets as fast as they were shot.

The man laughed. “That won’t work on me!”

A freaking fire elemental, great!

This time he saw it. Mara made a fireball and launched it at the car he hid behind. He rolled backward to the last car and came up to a crawl unhooking a whip from his pants, then waited for his prey to come to him. It was difficult when the cars began to explode behind him forcing him to hit the ground running. Damnit! I can’t keep running! And that fire is hot! I’ve got second-degree burns at least!

He appeared from behind his chosen car and swung his whip at the pyromaniac.

It smacked him in the face sending him backward slightly. Isaias didn’t want to hit him too hard in case he could explode on contact like some fire elementals could do. Growling, the man shot a line of flames at Isaias who rolled to avoid it, swung his chain again to wrap around the man’s arm, and jerked taking him off balance. Standing, Isaias ran over to him and kicked the man in the head taking him down. Wrapping his whip around the man’s neck, Isaias pointed his gun to the man’s head and cocked the trigger. The man grinned and began to glow. “Dammit! You can explode, can’t you?”

“I can pull full synergy. You know combine my energy with everything else’s?”

Isaias took out a pair of Obtonium handcuffs from his dimensional pocket and cuffed the man to a truck, before striking him in the temple, with the butt of his gun.

“Thanks for the info moron,” Isaias muttered uncoiling his whip from the man and looking for Zen. He couldn’t spot her and was worried for her and Edline. Who knows who or what they are fighting?

He hissed when his coat rubbed his back. Definitely some second-degree burns!

He glared at the knocked-out man. No thanks to you!

He whacked the man again breaking his nose, just because, and began walking wiping the blood off his gun on the guy’s pants. He looked over to where Marco had his opponent bloody on the ground.

Marco ran behind some large trucks. Damn it we were separated! I hope Zen can protect Edline! I’m exhausted! This is going to be a hard fight.

He walked from behind the trucks but before he could take another step, A cut appeared on his face then another, and another. He dodged the last watching as the sand rushed by. A whip of sand?

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

It snapped in thin air and recoiled before it changed directions. Is this another whip?

He dodged it again. He took his special laser gun and flipped the switch to begin charging the beam. It’ll take a few seconds just enough for me to close in and aim.

He peeked out from his truck spotting Neta who was simply looking to his right and shaking his head.

Marco dashed out and aimed his gun at Neta shooting his gun. Neta melted into the sand around them. Symbiosis! Damn it, this will make it harder!

His keen eyes took in the sand below him. He shot a shot into a shadow in the sand and the sand trembled. Got him!

He tracked the slight shadow that was under the sand and shot again. The shadow moved again.

Damn!

A wall of sand was building around Marco, trapping him in a cage. Neta disengaged from the sand and reappeared beside Marco. Marco grinned in his cage and took his sword out.

“What are you going to do with a sword now boy?”

Marco grinned. “This!”

He teleported out of the cage and reappeared beside the Neta slicing him in half. Neta crumbled to the ground as sand, and reappeared a little farther away breathing hard, a tear in his shirt showing where he was nearly split in half.

“You’re a traveler!”

“Not my fault you didn’t get to know your opponent well enough before you began this fight,” Marco breathed out.

Neta grinned and raised his hand, behind him the sand collected in a mountain. He sent his arm forward and the mountain began rolling towards Marco who stood coolly. Wind began blowing around him collecting the sand in a storm of sand around him. Marco sent the sand back as a sandstorm. Neta melted into the sand. This time when Neta reappeared Marco was ready for him and ported to his spot thrusting his sword into Neta’s stomach. Neta couldn’t use symbiosis to escape and gasped holding his stomach. fell to his knees and then to the side as he fainted from the pain.

Marco sighed and wiped his sword with Neta’s shirt.

“I’m elemental as well jackass.”

He looked over where Isaias could be seen securing his opponent. He must be able to self-destruct.

He looked in the direction that he saw Zen and Edline run and began heading that way. He was joined by Isaias halfway. He was covered in soot and had a few scratches from exploding shrapnel. He held his gun over his shoulder stiffly. He too bore some scratches.

“Ready to get our baby sisters?”

“Did you get burned?”

Isaias kept looking ahead. Marco frowned and placed a hand on his back, making Isaias hiss slightly.

“I’ll take that as a yes. Can you fight like that?”

“If Zen is in trouble, there’s nothing I can’t do.”

Marco nodded and they headed to a clearing where they could hear blades clashing.

###

Zen and Edline ran as the rapid-fire followed them. They were led to a clearing where Yolinda was waiting patiently. Her long blonde hair was done in a braid and she wore a black trench coat and a wicked-looking sword, but it was her. From behind them, Shadow appeared carrying the blaster gun that had been firing rounds at them blocking their way out of the clearing. Zen growled and stood tall grasping Edline’s hand and squeezing the little girl’s hand in reassurance. Yolinda spoke. “It’s time to come back, princess.”

Edline shirked back behind Zen’s legs quivering.

“She’s not going back,” said Zen as her eyes traveled from threat to threat.

“Didn’t we treat you like a princess? You weren’t our prisoner.”

Edline stepped forward. “Y-you treated me l-like a battery!”

“Well there was that, but you were so useful. Didn’t you feel useful princess? I know your mother didn’t use you at all.”

“I’m n-not your converter!”

“But you can be! See how powerful you are! A biological converter!”

Zen tucked Edline back behind her and faced the woman. “She has the choice of what she wants to be. She chooses to be a regular person.”

The woman laughed and unsheathed her sword. “You don’t get to make that choice.”

Zen let Edline’s hand fall and unsheathed two daggers, enlarged them till they were as big as butterfly swords, with the touch of a button. “Neither do you.”

The sword and daggers clashed.

The woman backed off and swung overhead again. Zen blocked the move and spun kicking out. The woman dodged disengaging her large sword. This time Zen attacked, and the woman blocked taking a step backward. Zen’s arms felt unsteady and the woman smiled. What is this weight on me? It feels like the gravity around me has increased or something!

Zen blocked another hit, knees almost buckling. Sweat ran down her face into her eyes, blinding her slightly. She gritted her teeth as they clashed again. I shouldn’t be so tired! She’s doing something to me. The gravity! It’s slowly increasing. I’ve got to back off now!

Zen leaped back to Edline’s side breathing easily again.

The woman smiled. “You are a fast one. Most don’t notice until they’re dead. No use hiding it, I’m a gravity elemental.” She shrugged grinning.

Dammit! How do I get close to her without getting flattened like a pancake or cut in half? She shrunk one knife down and palmed it before activating the homing beacon and throwing it. Yolinda swiped it with the sword and sent it off trajectory. Zen grinned as she gasped. The knife had buried into her shoulder. It had looped back and struck from behind. Gotta love those homing beacons!

The woman scowled, pulling out the embedded knife and throwing it away. She dug in her trench coat for a patch to place over the wound, but Zen was already on the move attacking her with her dagger and slicing her side. Yolinda backed out and growled increasing the gravity around herself. She couldn’t increase it past a certain point, or she’d be hampered as well. Zen took notice of this and grinned, pressing her lead. They clashed blades again and Zen retreated shaking.

Edline who was watching ported to Yolinda and electrocuted her before porting back to Zen. She screamed as bolts of electricity ran through her for a few seconds. Her neat braid was now a mess and standing on end. She glared at the girl and dashed at Edline who cowered in fear. Zen stepped in front and blocked the blade. She lifted her quaking leg and kicked Yolinda backward with all her strength. It wasn’t enough and Yolinda’s sword sliced against her side.

She felt pain rushing through her nerves and groaned holding her side. It came back crimson. Shrugging it off, she unsheathed another small dagger and activated the homing beacon. She threw it. Yolinda was more alert and dodged the projectile, but Zen threw another in its shadow and this one was lodged in her thigh. Yes! This should slow her down a little!

At least that was what Zen was counting on. Yolinda growled and charged, lunging at Zen who enlarged another dagger and clashed with her. Yolinda pressed into Zen adding her weight and that of her sword to her gravity and almost bowling Zen over. She sliced Zen again. Zen gasped as she was sliced again in the same place making the wound deeper. Zen clenched her teeth and blocked again.
