Chapter 2

Its been awhile since i started falling, to the apparently never ending void.

I don't have a tool to measure time but in a strange way i know exactly to second precision how much time elapsed.

Anyway two hours passed without something happening. I'm extremely bored.

But after some time i see bellow me a white cube with the same markings i saw at the beings masks and apparently my body.

Well… fuck, is it because i thought i was bored? Guess karma does exist. Or at least some entity that got mad at my train of thought

When i'm as close as i can  get i close my eyes waiting for the excruciating pain i'll have from falling from that high.

But it never came. The only thing i feel is my bottom against a warm surface.

I open my eyes and i'm on top of the platform.

Nowhere to go i start to investigate it, to no avail.

Nothing happens for a long time.

I'm bored,... bored and extremely hungry. Why doesn't this end?!.

*Rumble*

The markins start to shine just like the body but these ones don't blind me.

It just shines.

And i swear to not think of that ever again, but please don't kill me!!.

A black fog just like my body starts to sip through the markings.

After a considerable long time the sipping stops.

And the fog starts merging above me.

Then an ominous feeling can be felt from it as it starts speaking

Waaaa don't kill me!!

Then a booming voice comes from the fog.

"Haaaa don't be afraid.. How could i ever kill myself?”

Ehhh.. Well i'm not that surprised after all that happened.

“mmmm, how boring” He says… or i say to myself? i don't know anymore.

“well don't overthink it sooner or later you will know so lets end the formality and get us out of this place”.

“You ,the wise one, you who posses the most important piece of my soul, i bestow upon you the brightest and the darkest of futures, how you resolve them will forge you in the highest being ...or the lowest one".

With the last word said it starts swirling forming a black tornado and envelops me, finally merging with me causing great pain that forces me to close my eyes as to try to endure it.

A scenes appears in my mind, there a person  being hit countless times with an iron rod.

I realize its the body i was seeing before the white world, much older the stitches and scars are nowhere to be seen and all the body is the same color as the face.

Now i can feel each hit. I don't know when i transitioned from third person to first person and... i'm not glad it happened.

But strangely what i can't see is a hand holding the rod, the only thing i see are several faces laughing non stop with joy every time the rod hits me.

I grind my teeth and shout at them so hard that my throat hurts, but the only thing that accomplishes is a momentary stop in the beatings and a myriad of laughs.

They stop laughing and i close my eyes awaiting the hitting to continue, time goes by and the only thing i hear are blades being unsheathed.

I open my eyes but this time the rod is nowhere to be seen, now the only thing i see are a bunch of swords, that slowly approaches me , and cut right through me, i don't know why but the pain doesn't make me pass out surely something they did to let me suffer all they can until i die for which my hatred for them reaches new heights.

First they crush the bones of my arms ,after they make sure not one of them is healthy, they  start making small skin wounds and peeling it off, adding salt to the arm, that makes me scream, and i black out.

A hit in the left side of my torso wakes me up.

The first thing i notice is a bunch of them stuffing their mouth with some raw meat.

I start to weep as i notice those are my fingers and i'm impotent to stop them.

They approach me and let me see in full detail how they eat them.

i let out a defying scream and immediately regret it.

The torture begins again.

This time they hit a nerve and poke it and cut it like a madman.

Damn!, they learned to stop before i pass out.

And after a short break they cut the remaining flesh and toss my arms to a bunch beast noticing the reins , apparently those their mounts

They hit them, apparently they are going to keep them as some sort of treasure and don't want them to be eaten.

I feel a scorching heat from a short distance a scream as they cauterize the stump.

Can it be called stump? its just some centimeters long so… well it doesn't really matter i dont think ill get out of this alive.. i hope this is a dream.

The same process is followed for the legs minus the salt, they don't want to waste time.

After they finish they cauterizes the wounds.

Little by little they start cutting my torso, making sure to keep my organs intact otherwise their enjoyment would come to an end.

Finally when im about to die a single ball of darkish light goes out of my body and that is where my consciousness transfer to.

Hahah finally!.

They stop talking, eating and playing with the chunk of meat that was my body.

Malicious eyes look at me in my new form, they desperately move and try to catch, but with this form i'm too fast for them and i flee the scene not before promising myself to take revenge from each one of them in my mind full of hatred.

I travel at top speed where i unconsciously know i'll be safe ,the pain from being in this form is too much for me , even more that when they tore my arms but lesser than when they poured salt.

I close my eyes allowing my body to freely travel to my destination.

When the pain subsides i open my eyes.

Now i'm seeing the second room where i saw the two beings and allegedly my body.

The beings are still there but the body is nowhere to be seen.

Inspecting myself i realize that the body is now my own.

Seeing me open my eyes the male skeleton approaches me.

"My lord you succeed! .. But why are you so... angry and tears are falling from your face?".

I touch  my eyes and indeed they were falling, i still remember those feeling of hate and despair, i know it wasn't me but i don't wish that situation to anybody.

I wipe the tears from my face and show them a thumb up to assure them everything's  is fine.

"Its time to leave". Says the female one while patting my head with her hand.

I look at her with a puzzled face? Why  the hurry? if it appears that you've been here for at least more than some hundred years.

As to respond to my puzzlement the female proceeds speaking.

"They will shortly come and ...you don't want to be here when they do, not before you regain your powers".

My powers?.

"The pieces of souls".

Ahh... i remember .Thats why i saw that and why my body looks like this... But then who got my head?. But then who retrieved my head? I sure hope they killed those fuckers before getting the head.

Well i'll worry about that later.

"Who'll come?"

Not answering and just pointing her hand at the window she urged me to look

On the other side shadow appear to be moving, at first i think they are like my previous body, but then i saw their head, no eyes, no  nose ,no ears, just a mouth with sharp protruding teeth.

*Roar, creech.

They start to emit savage noises like wild beasts.

Scratching the floor growling at each other like real animals and then they notice me.

They let out a furious roar and begin to attack the window making small fractures to the thick glass.

"Ahhh what are those things?!!".

"They are former comrades, that sadly couldn't retain their sanity". Says the male skeleton with a sad and solemn voice.

"Its time to leave, hurry!". The female urged my leading me to a door.

On the other side of it a large corridor is in my view.

As we start running through it i notice small movement through the passages we pass by.

"There's More of them?!!".

"There are hundreds". They respond in unison.

I start to panic. What if they catch up to us or one of the comes from the front.

"Don't worry we will protect you". They say after seeing my panicked expression.

I feel a little relieved by their words but nonetheless i start running faster.

Finally we reach a huge mossy door. With strange carvings all over it.

"Open it master you are the only one that can!".

Does that mean they stayed for me or because of me? But i don't voice that question even i know its something that shouldn't be said aloud. At least the male one seems to be truly concerned and loyal to me... I don't know about the female one.

I push the door and my tattoo starts to shine as well as the carvings on the door.

It opens easily and as pass through it not before i look behind.

What i see there horrorize me.

Hundreds of teeth swarming in my direction.

"Close it master!".

"Close it fast!".

I wake from my stupor and close the gate just as they are at a distance where they can chew me.

From behind a wall that doesn't resemble a gate at all, sounds of violent animals can be herds and i fall to the floor.

*Grumble

My stomach echoes in the mossy cave i'm currently at.

"I'm sorry master theres no food in this place that i know of".

I make an wry smile and make a gesture with my hand saying that they don't need to worry about it. But right now i'm seeing the glowing moss with different eyes as well as their bones.

Then something happens that lets me speechless

A strange translucent light blue panel appear in front of me.

"What's this?!".

"What's what my lord?".

I point at the panel.. But they just look at the wall behind it.

They can't see it…

No matter where i move the panel follows and when i put it facing my companions and see them through it the strangest thing happens, they are skeletons no more and the mask is gone, replaced by beautiful faces.

But when i lean upwards and see them from above the panel they are skeletons again and the mask appears again.

I do this two or three time trying to figure it out..

The only thing that changes is the mask because the clothes are still the ragged ones i saw previously.

...perhaps its the mask?.

“By any chance… is that mask transforming how you look?”i say to them

“Ehh.. yes, you made them” answers the male one.

“can you hand it over one second?”

“ehh you have one too you know” says the female one.

I do?.

searching inside my clothes i found one similar to the others but this one has red markings instead of black ones and a small brand new black dagger with an intense crimson blade… How come the dagger isn't rusted?.

After inspecting them thoroughly i find nothing strange .. but i do notice that the panel grew a little longer.

I get what the mask does and i suspect what the skeletons have are Lynx mask.

But… Profession?skills? and the dagger with these “unknown”?.

My mind is baffled i can't understand a single thing!

Am i just too unwise? Or is it a subject too difficult for anyone the first time they see it?

Well i don't know if i don't try.

Another panels pops up from thin air.. this one with much more information… i still dont get what triggers these panels.. but well theres nothing bad about hoarding information.

Too overwhelming to process it in a glance i stood there several minutes reading everything three to five times trying to remember everything and more important understanding everything.

Now what to do about this panel.. its pretty bothersome.

And while i'm thinking about that, it fades away.

Is it perhaps controlled by thoughts?

I try to make it appear again, and fail miserably, try a second time and fail as well… the fifth time i get it to appear, apparently I just have to concentrate in what i want.

After that i make it appear a few times and get the hang of it.

The most important thing i found are 'vassals', i take a peek at the skeletons.

Is that why the male one keeps calling me lord?.

Well now...What's the best way to get information from them? Because even if they are something like my vassals i can't blindly trust in them before i really get to know them.

"Baltoz... Right?"

My lord?.. Is kind of annoying to hear those words after every sentence i don't know why but ... It just doesn't feel quite right

"First .. Can you please stop with the ' my lord 'thing.. I don't like it"

"O-ok.. As you please" he says hesitantly.

" now that we left that aside...." i think what i want to know about them and what i already know about them.

"Why Are you..." I make a brief pause" an undead".

He lowers his head.

"Because it was the only way to remain sane ... And not turn..into ...them" he says with a sad coarse voice.

Only way?.... That means they couldn't just leave?.. Because .. Of me?.

I feel terrible, did i force them to stay there? .. And force their comrades to turn into.. Beasts?.

Who exactly am i... What did i exactly do?Should i ask them. I only know my name and that strange professions.. How can being a shadow be a profession?.

I decide to do that later, maybe while walking to the exit.. I hope its nearby.. I'm so hungry!!

"Do you know the way out ? ".

"Yes.. But i'm afraid is a long way until we reach the exit and theres no food whatsoever"

So.. I'll have to hold up until then.

"How long?".

"A day .. Or three?" He says awkwardly waiting for my reaction.

I make an wry smile. I hope i can hold on or i'll end up eating that shiny moss.

We start walking through the cavern.

After a while ,Baltoz and eos a little ahead of me start Whispering or at least trying because i can hear them.

"I don't remember him being like that, and it seems he doesn't remember himself… or us".

"Don't be like that.. He just woke up.. Maybe like us his memory is a little messed up".

"Talking about memory.. You do remember the way out right?.. Otherwise we will be stuck here for a long time.. And i dont think hes body is going to hold up".

Eyeing behind them they see me face and stop talking afraid of me hearing them.

Looks like they are as afraid of me as i'm afraid of them .. Maybe despite their looks they are nice people.. Or maybe i'm the weird looking one.

We walk straight for a long time.. And my hunger just keeps increasing.

And then a new panel pops out out of thin air with a gong song accompanying it.

I'm afraid to look at the new panel.. Because the color is different much darker than the pristine light blue from before.. Meaning nothing good.. But i know this damn panel won't disappear by itself, so i look.

Hunger has decreased significantly.

Endurance and stamina?... That means i won't be able to walk much longer.. Damn.

I will the panel to disappear and it does.

I keep walking but food is the only thing i can think about.

We keep walking, passing by crossroad and alternative roads, guided by Baltoz that i hope really know his way around.

I start counting my steps as to avoid thinking about food, but the damn messages keep popping up saying the same message over and over again with more and more decrease in my endurance and resistance.

We stop on the way to rest a little at least i am, they seem to never get tires as they keep watch while i sleep.

Eyeing the moss i grab a little trying to not let them see me eat it.

It has a bitter taste but still the only thing that seems edible here.

We keep walking and i hope no more panels pop up before we leave this place.. but i know thats not realistic, because we've been walking for just 1 day ,more precise 18 hours after we left the door.

This time is not about hunger, still not good news

And look around for the source of that voice.. But i see no one.

Well at least she seems preoccupied i think while i increase my image of her in my mind.

"I'm ok.. Don't worry let's keep walking".

I don't know exactly how much time has passed but this cavern seems endless.

The voice keeps urging me to eat the bones but i learn to ignore it after all how much can some meatless bones feed me?.

But even with the logic on my side i start to imagine those bone filled with meat and me on top of them.. Devouring them.

50 hours has passed after we left the door and after a light rest that doesn't seem to recover my sStrengthtrength i can't walk anymore thus im being carried by Baltoz.

*They are so close, delicious bones to chew on, what does it matter if they are meatless, eat them and try, you'll grow on the taste after all the marrow is delicious*

A numbness invades my head stretching from my head to all my body.

Then something clicks in my head

I need to eat them... I want to eat them. Tear their flesh with my hands and eat them.

There was nothing i could do. It was like something is controlling my body and i just jump from Baltoz back and run towards the rats.

They tried to outrun me. But i'm just too fast they try to dodge my hands but the reflexes i showed in the white world are still there.

I grab them and tear them . they screech in agony but that just makes me want to do it more.. and more. I stuff them in my mouth and chew them some of them dead after tearing them but after getting bored of their squeals i start to eat them alive.

Smalls squeals can still be heard nearby but it seemed the rats are too afraid to approach in fear of being devoured. I don't blame them.

"Rejoice we are a few step away from the exit!" Says baltoz while patting my back.

"Just to ask..? But how many days have we been walking?"

Baltoz starts fidgeting and tries to avoid to questions but eos intercedes.

"Forgive him, but with so much time in confinement theres things one forgets"

"I see...".

I don't continue because she used the right words to make me feel guilty.

We sit down and rest because now that i'm not hungry anymore my stamina can recover. So we wait till it reaches 100%.

Well this is quite the upgrade. Happy and smiling like that i take a long nap comfy nap.

Waking up i see my two partners still taking the guard.

I guess they don't tire and they don't sleep, perhaps it has to do with the undead stat, besides how do you tell if a skeleton is asleep, they have no eyelids.

Noticing me awake they urge me to continue and i gladly oblige perhaps soon we will get out and i'll get a decent meal that doesn't include rats altough they were quite tasty. No stop! they weren't!.

“Mhh?” says Eos.

“hehe it wasn't to you” i say while i scratching my head.

“m’kay” she says but i feel she still doubts my sanity, hell even i doubt it.

We keep walking for over an hour, and finally!....

We reach a dead end…

“Are you sure this is the way out?” i say to Baltoz.

“Certainly, there's no other way out, this must be a fake wall i'm sure of it!”

I shrug and approach to examine it,

Its moist and… a little hairy.

How can a 3 cubic meters wall be hairy!!?.

I jump back, because right now that wall starts to move, and a giant rat head appears from one of the sides.

Will it try to avenge its little rat partners that i ate?

*Hoho another meal, i wonder if it tastes different that those common rats, i can't wait to try*

And like always that stupid voice talks, that now that i think about it must be the skill called primal desire…so then it actually is my desire or a different entity thats talking.

Sorry can't talk to you anymore seems that the rat is kinda mad and like me is pretty hungry.

The giant rat opens its mouth and tries to attack me but just in that moment a shadow appears in front of me.

Its Baltoz, with a huge sword with gold runes engraved in it and guessing by the long and width its a bastard sword, where did he keep it?, and just like the dagger i own how is it not rusted like the things in the room i was sleeping?.

Well anyways thank to being that big hes using it as a shield  defending against the giant rat  attacks.

And while doing that i notice eos is behind me with a black wood staff with a white orb on top that extends from the floor to a little over her head, chanting something that i don't quite understand and little by little runes with the same color as the orb start appearing and shining on the staff.

Boom.*

A huge white projectile erupts from the staff heading directly to one of the being eyes.

It screeches and falls back a little.

Eos starts chanting again but this time when she finishes instead of a huge ball a little thread appears and attaches itself to Baltoz.

And for the first time i notice it.

Above Baltoz head a red short bar attached to a white one double the reds one lenght that little by little is becoming reder.

When the red bar reaches half the giant rat starts attacking again, tacking a chunk of the red bar down… is it perhaps healt?.

*You sure are slow*

I ignore the voice.

What will happen if the bar becomes completly white… will he die?.

*And again your mind continues to amaze me*

*Then start fighting*

I get ahold of the dagger and ran past Baltoz and pierce the rats fur.

A bar above the rats head show that it has half the bar red, did i damage it or was it Eos?.

*Of course it was her!*

mhhh i see then i guess it was because she attacked a weak point.

*yeah… why don't you try the same? hit his other eye*

Theres no way i can do that! his mouth is on the way and i'm sure as soon as i reach it ill be swallowed whole.

*Hey i took over because we were about to die, and now i'll just point out his weak point and you'll attack it*

mmmhh ok. I think while checking Baltoz Health that now is a quarter red.

Looking behind i see Eos still canalizing that white thread.

*Theres a patch of fur missing at the top of its head, if you hit it right you may be able to kill it in few good hits*

Will i be able to do it?, i already said i couldn't hit his eye how could i ever wish to reach the top?.

*Easy just ask Balt to help*

Reluctantly i look at Baltoz and hopping for the best ask him.

“Balt can you keep him still for a minute?”

Letting a short laugh he shakes his head up and down.

“i Knew you were going to ask me something crazy again, i'm relieved you are yourself again”

With that he time his attack and let the rat one visibly fake weak point.

But the rat doesn't notice it and attack.

And with his sword held high he slams the nussle continues the attacking trying to keeping it down, taking small almost unnoticeable chunks of its life.

*If you want to save him better hurry up”.

I heed his word or my words? well i do what he says and start running to a side of the head.

Using the dagger and grabbing tufts of hair i reach the top in 10 seconds.

Instantly i notice a mass of pus and damaged skin. So its sick … i won't feel bad for it, if he didn't attack maybe but now you are going to get it.

I start digging in the skin and reaching flesh with my dagger, the skull is nowhere to be seen.
