Season 0: The preparation
Long ago, the continent was one large piece of land. However, the Great War shattered it—literally, splitting it into four pieces, each advancing in different ways.
On the first continent, the population learned to create aura chains and mana circles, while the beasts grew stronger with each generation, evolving into deadly creatures.
On the second continent, people became cultivators, absorbing internal energy, or qi, and formed sects and similar organizations. The beasts also followed their own paths of cultivation, evolving like humanity and being a constant threat.
On the third continent, people improved and trained their mana, enhancing their natural talents and, in some special cases, adopting additional powers. Meanwhile, the monsters began evolving. Each evolution, taking them one stage further. A mouse could become a world-destroying threat, and a lizard could transform into a dragon. No matter their initial strength, two beasts whose bloodlines had evolved similarly would soon be of equal power.
As for the fourth continent, its civilization was destroyed long ago, and it is now an uninhabitable place, filled with all types of monsters. What exactly happened on the fourth continent is unknown, although many have had speculations throughout the years.
Alex Wight had been born on the first continent. He was born weak and frail, but in a world where anyone could theoretically one day slay a dragon that didn't matter much. Throughout his childhood he was smaller and weaker than other children, but he had quickly shown his intelligence, this had allowed him to join a institution for becoming a soldier, despite being an orphan and whoreson.
But no matter how hard he tried he could barely learn any aura, only understanding the bare minimum to be able to use it.
And so he left, he traveled the three continents by sneaking on ships or getting money in any way he could. He visited the second continent, the third, and even returned to the first, but no matter what he tried he was completely and utterly talentless, worse than everybody, but he still did what he could so he became a merchant, a quite successful one, famous for selling rare beasts from different continents to other ones. But that had never been his ambition, he was going to become powerful, so he earned, and became richer. His already completely logical and thinking brain became cold and calculating. He didn't lose emotions, but he understood that he should do what he must if he wanted to succeed. And now, his plans were finally beginning.
A man stands in a underground lab, wearing a black trench coat and holding himself up with a cane. His short brown hair is finely styled, whilst his clear blue eyes are like a pair of piercing crystals in the dark.
He reaches out his hand, his black glove sliding over the large tube before him, filled with a glowing blue liquid and a figure floating inside. "Soon, you shall be my first, my first creation, only one more day" I let my hand slide of, before slowly leaving, walking up some stairs and exiting my basement. My cane clacks on the ground as I move into town, I’m only temporarily on the third continent for business and my experiment. I enter the large auction house, I’ve already sold my wares the day before, and I’m merely looking for anything of interested during my free time. I sits down on one of the empty chairs, not bothering to buy a VIP lounge.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
"Yes that is a waste of time" I mutter to myself. I have been preparing for so long, i can wait a little longer. I lazily watch as a lady in overly revealing clothing appears and starts the auction.
"Welcome ladies and gentlemen, today is the fourth day of our yearly auction, we once more thank you for being here, but enough with the introductions, we know you are here to see our wares! Yesterday was a bit special, with the famous Mister Wight selling his wares, but worry not, we still have many items you'll be sure to want to get your hands on! So let's start with something normal." A man pushes out a pedestal with a metal sword.
"This here is a high grade magic item from the first continent, the starting bid is 50 gold!" Many start raising their hands, attempting to buy it, before a VIP from one of their overhead positions bids 250 gold, instantly causing everyone else to go quiet.
"First item sold to one of our wonderful VIP's for 250 gold!" The auctioneer says enthusiastically, before moving on to the next item.
The rest of the auction continuous without any special interruptions.
For the most part nothing catches my eye, until the final item is brought out.
"This here is a special item!" She lifts the veil covering the final item.
It was a singular deep blue scale.
"This is our final item, a scale from the blue titan! The dragon which plagued the third continents northern sea was slain last month, and we've managed to get our hands on one of its scales! The starting price is 100 platinum!"
The people around me break out into screams and gasps, everyone would want something like this, however it's difficult even for the rich to get 100 platinum, much less most of the people of this auction.
So most of the people trying to buy it is the few VIP's who have that type of money.
"110 platinum!", "115 platinum!", "117 platinum!" The increase is fierce yet slow, as even those here who might have the money, are not able to easily spends such amounts.
I wait calmly as the amount slowly increases, until it reaches 135 platinum, and everybody else stops raising.
"It seems that it will be sold to our VIP in room 3 for!" Before she can finish i slam my cane into the ground and raise my hand. "160 platinum."
I speak calmly, however the auction erupts with many sound, many of them angry, believing I don't have such money.
"Stop joking you dumbass! There's no way you have that, you're not even a VIP!", "Yeah!", "Yeah!"
Many start screaming at me, but I sit calmly waiting until the seller continues.
"Sold to Mister Wight for 160 platinum!" Her words immediately cause everyone to become quiet.
"Did she just say Wight!?" "Was I just screaming at Wight, oh no." Time seems to freeze as everyone is completely quiet, but all I do is stand up and start leaving.
As I’m leaving I stop for a moment, before turning towards the girl on stage. "Take it to my housing by tonight." That's all I say before going home. My movements are slow, each step being supported by the clacking of my cane, until i finally reach my house. Stepping inside I take a bath before putting on my clothes and entering my basement. I look at the tube, as I see the being inside start to move.
"Finally." My lips part as a mad smile appears on my face. "After all of these years it's time."
