Chapter 1: Prologue

In a private lab in New York, a world renowned scientist named Raven Touch was working throughout the night. Looking at his tall, dark, skeleton like figure, with a shiny bald head. If one was to look upon him, they may think, “Wow, he’s like a walking skeleton, he doesn’t have long to live!”. But if you looked into his eyes, you would have seen a man with an unbreakable will.

Looking up from his microscope, Raven sighed with a sense of relief.

After so many years he has finally completed his lifelong goal, but it didn’t come without a cost. He has sacrificed many things to lead to where he is today, but he never regreted it, after all his work was extremely important and it was his dream. Though, after coming so far ahead, he couldn’t help but look back at his life…

As a toddler Raven was considered a never before seen, genius able to solve math problems that not even his parents could hope to solve. But unfortunately, because he was the child of an immigrant from Jamaica he was never recognized for his talent until he was diagnosed with cancer at age 7.

Normally when one is diagnosed with cancer they may be scared or even cry. But Raven, a 7-year-old boy did not cry or even seem scared, instead, he felt a sense of purpose. It was as if at that moment in time, he knew that his purpose and the reason he was born with his intelligence was to find a cure for cancer.

To be able to accomplish this Raven with the support of his mother Mary, went on to showcase his genius in more ambitious ways.

At age 11 he graduated from high school and was immediately accepted into Stanford, where he would study for the next few years.

It took him a minimum of 3 years to get his degree and during that time he also published multiple papers on the benefits and downsides of different cancer cells.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

After graduating from Stanford, he, unfortunately, had to take a year off to recuperate from all the stress his body has endured over the years.

Not a day late over a year, he went straight to med school where he graduated and got his Ph.D. at age 21.

But if it wasn’t for his cancer always acting up, he was positive that he could have graduated and achieved his Ph.D. by the age of 18.

After gaining his Ph.D. Raven was accepted into a private institution to work. Throughout his years working for said institute he went on to make a name for himself in the science community for what he has accomplished.

His research was doing well, but at age 32 he realized that he didn’t have long to live so he changed the direction of his research from finding a cure to finding a way to suppress or delay the effects of cancer.

Finally, at age 35 he managed to find a way to do this, but it didn’t come without its downsides.

Thanks to that research, and his previous ones he made a fortune and was able to live out the rest of his life peacefully if he wanted to, but instead he invested it back into his research, donating some to charities that helped kids with cancer, and gave the rest to his mother, siblings, and his nieces and nephews.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have any kids because he didn’t want his kids to suffer the same way he did with a disease like cancer, but he did get married to a beautiful woman named Sam, and they adopted a multitude of kids.

Now after so many years he has finally accomplished his lifelong goal of finding a cure for cancer, and he couldn’t feel more fulfilled…

“Sigh, I guess this is it. Well it was all worth it in the long run.”, said Raven.

Taking up his pen and notepad, Raven recorded all his findings along with a small message stating, “To the Institution, I hope you all will put aside your greed and use my findings to better the lives of humanity, Thank You.”.

Next, he took up his phone and record a video for his family, “Hello, everyone. Thank You for all the support you have given me over the years and thank you for entertaining my selfish desires. This is the end of the road for me, so please take care of each other in my stead.”.

As if feeling the Grim Reapers' hands around his neck, Raven leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes to embrace the everlasting sleep.

‘I wonder what death is like. Am I going to reincarnate as some stupid slime or is it just nothing? I guess I’ll just wait and see.’

The End…
