Chapter 11 - Secret Orders

Pendulum Swing towards Lane: 3

Lane cards in hand: 5

Kurt cards in hand: 5

Timecard didn’t get any use but boosting Aegir’s Power. Lane wanted to use his kingdom’s power, but wasn’t sure how to signify that. He tried tapping the playmat’s effect.

Kurt only furrowed his brow. “Huh?”

Lane tapped the effect again. He started to turn his mat around, but couldn’t without disrupting all of the cards placed on it.

“Oh, oh,” Kurt said. “I gotcha, I gotcha. You wanna use your kingdom’s effect. Just point to it and I’ll get it next time. Go ahead.”

Lane released a deeply nervous breath. He moved the top card of his deck to the Waste and pointed to Kurt’s face down resource card.

“Here you go,” Kurt said.

Bribery in Blood - Resource

Swing: 0

Effect: If your opponent’s Subject declares an attack, discard as many cards as you’d like from your hand. Reduce the Power of your opponent’s subject by the amount of cards discarded times 100.

Kurt dropped the card back down.

Lane debated playing another subject. He could summon something and then use the card Kurt gave him to destroy both of his subjects. It wasn’t exactly in line with his plan, but Lane thought removing Kurt’s cards would disrupt his strategy enough to throw him way off track.

Deadly Fog Mirage - Power: 600

Swing: 3

Effect: If this card is revealed to your opponent by card effect, you may summon it at no cost.

Lane tapped Cowardly Raider and then Pygillion’s Companion.

“Oh, you’re attacking Companion?” Kurt asked. Lane nodded. Apparently, he’d taken for granted how Felix had understood what he meant so quickly.

“Boom!” Kurt exclaimed, revealing a card from his hand.

Secret Orders - Resource

Swing: 1

Effect: This card can be played from the Kingdom or the hand on your opponent’s turn. If a Subject you summoned declares an attack against another Subject you summoned, you may negate that attack or redirect it towards a different Subject.

“I’ll negate the attack,” Kurt chose.

Lane had only focused on the resources on the board and had fallen for a hand trap he didn’t know was in the game. He shook it off and tried to figure out what to do with the extra swing his opponent had gifted him.

Lane tapped Aegir and then tapped Pygillion’s Companion.

“Attacking again?” Lane nodded. He plucked three cards off the top of his deck and revealed a resource card, Shift Rotation, to Kurt. Kurt nodded and moved his subject to the waste. Lane put the other two cards to the bottom of his deck per his ruler’s ability. His opponent was exposed, but Lane didn’t have any way to take advantage. Already his opponent’s strategy was protecting its Prize Deck.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Aegir 900 → 1000 attacked Pygillion’s Companion 500 and destroyed it.

Shift Rotation - Resource

Swing: 1

Effect: Your opponent discards two cards of their choice from their hand into the Waste. Then they must draw two more cards.

Kurt complied with the card’s orders.

Two Faces of Fate - Resource

Swing: 3

Effect: Your opponent draws three cards at the start of each turn. They must discard one of those three to the Waste before starting their turn.

Kurt’s eyes narrowed with suspicion. Had he caught on to what Lane was planning?

Pendulum Swing to Kurt: 3

Lane cards in hand: 5

Kurt cards in hand: 4

Kurt drew three cards instead of the usual two. He considered his additions and threw one into the discard pile.

“I’ll start by attacking Fog Mirage with Pygillion. I’ll use its effect to change my ruler’s Power to fifteen-hundred.”

Pirate Sovereign Pygillion 500 → 1500 attacked Deadly Fog Mirage 600 and destroyed it.

“In its place, I’ll summon something else!”

Costly Mercenary - Power: 400

Swing: 2 → 3

Effect: This card can only attack by discarding one card from your hand to the Waste.

Lane’s board was invaded by another of his opponent’s subjects. Neither had the power to attack over Pygillion. Kurt found himself in a choice between filling Lane’s last subject spot or giving himself protection against Aegir’s attack. If he left his board without a subject, then Aegir would be able to get a free attack against his Prize Deck. Kurt apparently thought he had no problem with that.

“And I’ll take the last of your subject spots!”

Mystic Mermaid of Regrets - Power: 300

Swing: 4 → 5

Effect: If a Subject on your Kingdom makes an attack that would result in them getting destroyed, negate that attack instead.

Pendulum Swing towards Lane: 5

Lane cards in hand: 5

Kurt cards in hand: 4

Lane’s own board had been locked up. He needed a way to boost the power of his subjects. Then, he could attack for Prize Cards. But his deck didn’t focus on attacking his opponent’s ruler.

“I knew it,” Kurt said. “You’re trying to mill my deck! Getting four free attacks against my low Power ruler would normally be a free win, but I read your strategy, didn’t I?” Lane tried not to look frustrated. He drew two cards and examined his options. “Well I still have my Bribery card if you really could attack me.”

Lane tapped his mat and sent the top card of his deck to the discard pile.

“I’ll reveal something from my hand?” Kurt asked. He fanned out the cards and Lane picked one at random. Kurt revealed it to be Timecard.

Lane couldn’t play another subject card and none of the cards in his hand could sacrifice the subjects already in play.

Leak in the Ship - Resource

Swing: 0

Effect: Pay up to 3 Swing. Your opponent discards cards from their deck up to the amount of Swing paid.

Lane flashed three fingers and Kurt understood. Moving three cards from his deck to the waste.

Lane tapped his ruler and pointed to Pygillion.

Aegir 900 → 1100 attacked Pirate Sovereign, Pygillion 500 and forced Kurt to draw a Prize Card.

Lane activated his card’s effect and drew a new resource card from the top three cards of his deck. Lane revealed Barbaric Prayer Circle. Lane couldn’t attack with his other subjects. To free up space, he might’ve attacked into Pygillion just to get rid of the cards, but the new Mystic Mermaid would just negate the battle.

Barbaric Prayer Circle - Resource

Swing: 3

Effect: Search your deck for one Subject with “Barbaric Prayer Circle” in its name or effect. Add it to your hand. Shuffle your deck. Keep this card face-up on your Kingdom.

Lane drew the card and the turn passed.

Pendulum Swing to Kurt: 1

Lane cards in hand: 5

Kurt cards in hand: 5

Kurt drew three cards and discarded one happily. "Sorry, Lane. I think your strategy is about to backfire."
