i glanced up at my mother, her tender hazel eyes staring at me, along with six other pairs of eyes, all mixtures of green and blue and brown.
my stomach gurgled as I patted my mothers arm, still looking up at her.
i heard the chorus of stomach rumbles from the children behind me.
"mother. they need to eat. they're starving. please. give them some food"

she sighed and looked towards my gaze, a small tear trailing down her soft and wrinkled cheek.
"Please, darling. they can wait a little longer."
I shook my soft hair, and grabbed her hand.
"you know they are starving."
she smiled, looked up at the ceiling, saying a faint prayer, and then looked back at me.
"ok dearest. it must be done."
"yes. it must."
I gripped the axe as my mother lay her neck slowly on the table.
