In Terracity, the year 3062.
Grey slowly opened his eyes. He was sitting on a cot in a small cell. There was a tiny window and a small grimy mirror in the wall. He sighed. This was the fourth time he had ended up here in the past month. He stood on shaky legs and dusted off his brown trousers. His black tunic had a large rip on the left shoulder. Damm that officer. He walked over and stared into the mirror. His brown hair was messy. His grey eyes still had their piercing look. His 5' 6' frame filled the bottom of the mirror.
He turned around to look at the rest of the cell. Two other people stood behind him. One was a girl, the other a boy. The girl had long blonde hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a green dress that was patched on one edge. The boy had black hair and blue eyes. He had on a brown tunic and tan trousers. They were both staring at him.
"Oh shit! Where'd you come from?" Grey asked, taking a step back.
"We were here the whole time. We've been awake for the past 2 hours." The boy beside her piped up.
"Well, you could have left," Grey said. Both of them looked confused. "You've never been in prison before?" They shook their heads. Grey sighed. This was going to be harder than he thought.
"Well, first, we need to knock out at least three guards and steal their armor and weapons. Do either of you know how to fight?" Grey asked. They both looked shocked. "I'll take that as a no. Okay, you two stay here." Grey said. Then he turned and stuck his head through the bars.
"Hey, this place stinks! I hate it here." Then Grey pulled his head back through the bars and shushed the others. "The guards hate complainers. They'll be here any second now." He explained. Just then a burly guard ran up to the cell.
"Well, we have a complainer. I guess you don't know what we do to complainers." He growled. He gestured to another guard who was holding an older man by the scruff of his neck. The one holding the man dropped him and left.
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
The guard who was left turned and pulled the man into a standing position. Then he drew his sword and started to cut out the man's vocal cords. Suddenly, his arm slipped and it made a large cut across the man's windpipe. The older man choked and sputtered, blood streaming down his neck. Blood spattered on the cobblestone floor as the guard dropped the older man. He reached and grabbed Grey by the hair.
"That's what we do to complainers." He snarled. His sword was aimed at Grey's neck. He was about to cut into the neck when Grey stomped down, hard on the guard's foot. The guard dropped his sword and was hopping around, holding his foot. Grey grabbed it through the bars and ran the man through with his weapon. The guard looked shocked. He coughed blood and slumped to the ground, dead.
"Come on! You've never seen someone die before?" Grey said. They both looked like they were about to vomit.
"N-n-no..." The boy stammered.
"Well, you better get used to it. This escape will require a lot of killing." Grey said turning around and facing the bars. "Since we need to stick close, it would be better if I knew your names."
"I'm Aurelia and this is Blaze," The girl said, gesturing to the boy. "Now, what's your name?"
"I'm Grey, and this isn't important," Grey said. "Now, Blaze, you need to use the sword to get the keys off his belt while Aurelia and I Breakpewices off the mirror to use as weapons." Blaze nodded and slowly started to maneuver the sword to the belt. He hooked the keys and pulled them into the cell. As he did, a tall, lanky guard started down the hallway and stopped in front of their cell. He looked down at the body, then back at them.
"I was wondering when you were gonna show up!" Grey said, walking to the bars.
"Who do you think I am?" The guard said looking confused. Grey froze.
"Liam?" He said quietly.
"Who's Liam? I-" Then he looked down again and seemed to see the dead corpse of his coworker. "Shit!" He started to talk into the tiny transceiver embedded into his hand. "We have a code purple. Possible escape attempt and a homicide. Cellblock 345, Cell 8975. Again, this is a code-" He stopped and gaped at his stomach. Blaze had run him through with the sword. He fell to the ground, dead, blood seeping from the gaping hole in his chest. Grey grabbed his hand and spoke into the transceiver.
"False alarm. Inmates were lying." Grey spoke in the same hallowed tones as the guard. He realized his mistake as he finished speaking.
"Aurelia, you and Blaze need to hide. I need to handle this by myself."
"But Grey! They'll kill you!" Aurelia cried.
"Hide! I can handle them!" He said ushering them under the bed. they scrunched up under the bed. The sound of metallic footsteps filled the hall as Grey stood up and faced the bars.
