The Last Gasp of a Dying Star

The Last Gasp of a Dying Star

With the last notification fading from view Nick was surprised to find himself suddenly moving faster and faster through the space around him. No sensation of movement followed, however, almost as if he was merely zooming in on a picture until the only thing in around of him was the vast expanse of space and a beautiful array of shifting colors and shapes in the form of a dying star.

With a strange beauty the colors formed of gas and matter rapidly pulled in, and like the last gasp of a dying man the star suddenly blew outward. Completely silent the energy and colors washed over Nick and flew out around him. Further and further they sailed across the field of space only to slowly form anew into pockets of stardust and gas.

Like watching a documentary in fast forward new planets formed around him and with them a new star formed as well. Smaller than its predecessor, but none the less gigantic and magnificent compared to the small planets forming around it. With the sun and planets formed Nick was suddenly drawn out of this spectacle by the system's prompt.

New solar system template formed.

Designated AX109 (G-Star).

AX109? Do I not get to name it?

Names are determined by inhabiting sentient beings. Not their creators.

Huh, well, I guess that makes sense. We did name all of our planets and such ourselves after all. So what do I do now?

Please Begin by molding your starting planet. Currently only one planet is capable of sustaining life.

That planet is AX109-3. The third planet in this system.

Looking around him Nick noted that there were 7 planets in his system. The third one appeared to be a ball of mostly molten rock currently.

Focusing on the planet he found himself zooming forward until it looked as though he was floating far above the planet's surface. As he focused on it, he found himself growing until the planet resembled something the size of a basketball in front of him. Reaching forward, he felt the planet's surface with his hands, though it seems his touch didn't leave any impression on its surface.

He could feel the heat from the magma like a warm slime coating the palm of his hands. Resting his attention on a single finger he reached out and pushed his finger across the land, leaving a small trench in its wake. It seems he could only mold the planet's surface when he intentionally focused on the act.

After getting the hang of moving the molten ground into certain shapes and peaks he was caught off guard by a new message box.

Skill Unlocked!

(Common) Basic World Molding:

"With these hands I form the base of all things."

Increased ease of molding planets. Molding requires less focus.

With that achievement Nick felt there wasn't much else he could do at this stage of the planet's development. With that thought the world began to speed up in its rotation. With that he watched attentively as asteroids and gases collected and began to form water upon reacting with the heat on the planet's surface.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Slowly but surely the surface cooled and hardened, all while water formed in pockets in the ground until the vast majority of the planet's surface was water. Landmasses were formed and split, shifting until there were multiple continents upon the planet. With the water, he also noticed an almost imperceptible balancing of the gases around the planet forming a thin, nearly invisible layer of atmosphere as the gas settled into the planet's gravitational pull.

With that the planet slowed down until it returned to it's previous rotation speed.

Please determine a starting point for life.

----------------------------------------

Let there be life:

Rapid expansion of life forms and development of ecosystems. Sentient life forms early and is designed by the Player.

Supports a Theological Background for planetary development.

----------------------------------------

Microbiology:

Life begins as small single or multi-cell organisms. Life develops slowly and gradually but allows for more precise design. Supports a Scientific Background for planetary development.

----------------------------------------

Oceanic:

Water engulfs the planet and life begins with a mixture of Microbiology and small organisms. Plants are all aquatic and sentient life forms slower. Background for origins is determined by method of sentient development.

----------------------------------------

Order in Chaos:

Random mutation and development of unique biology. High chance of forming multiple sentient organisms and developing unique organisms. Supports a Survival of the Fittest Background.

----------------------------------------

Magical Life:

Life springs forth in many forms from pools of energy known as mana. High chance of forming multiple sentient organisms and developing unique organisms. Supports a Fantasy Background.

Nick's eyes widened as he read through all the options, stopping at the last one on the list. Magic? We can even pick to have magic in our world?

Nick was really starting to get excited. He'd always loved fantasy stuff with all the magic and sorcery. Science was cool and all but he already lived in a world surrounded by machines and new technology. Magic however, was nothing more than a party trick or something done on TV. This was real life magic!

Ok, so... simulated reality magic, but still it was cool! Confirming his selection he watched as something in the air condensed, forming small pools of glowing colorful liquid. The color seemed to depend on where the mana formed. Being scarlet near volcanoes and light blue around water or brown when mixed into the soil. Slowly the mana sank into the ground and from where it collected plants and small creatures began to slowly come forth to the surface. Forming small, isolated eco-systems on the crust of the no longer barren planet.

Congratulations on taking the first step to creating life!

Achievement received:

Life Giver

(Create life, no matter how small.)

+10 Origin Points

Origin points can be used for creating or purchasing anything you or someone else can think of.

Origin points? How do I use them?

When designing new sentient life or in the creation a new system for your world origin point are used to purchase those creations. They can also be used to purchase other player's creations.

All creations can be shared in the Creation Marketplace. If someone chooses to buy a creation of yours, you will receive a small percent of the origin cost in return.

Simply think of entering the marketplace or forum and you will be transported to the Player Center.

Really? I'll have to do that when I get some more points then.

While reading through the system messages and listening to its responses Nick never took his eyes off his new planet. Gleefully watching as different groups of flora and fauna continued to grow and the planet speedily went through many years of development in the blink of an eye, though he didn't have to blink in the game. Soon the planet was covered in teeming forests and plains each location unique in its vast collection of life.

Formation of basic life forms completed.

Origin system unlocked!

Please begin by creating your first sentient life form.

Nick smiled at the message, eager to begin.
