Prologue

Sol connects all living things. It can be found throughout the air and trees. It is inside each animal and person on the planet. Sol is the energy of life, it is an energy that transcends life and death. Sol is what makes the rivers flow and our hearts beat, it is both our reason for living, and the cause of our death. There is strength in controlling one's own Sol, as well as being able to manipulate the Sol around us. Those who can deepen their connection to their own Sol, and feel the Sol throughout the world can become people of true greatness in the realm of Aki.

However, the realm of Aki is vast.

Arid the vast and unforgiving land of western Aki. This country is known for its harsh desert wastelands and resilient people; The Aridites. They say an Aridites' eyes are as blue as the ocean, and their skin as course as the sands itself.

Noxen is home to the Beastfolk of Aki. A people of many skills and talents, they make their home in the wilds of Noxen. Most are accepting of the Beastfolk in the lands of Aki, however, there are those who hold onto old stigmas of the Beastfolks underlying feral nature.

Olfren and Babia are the sister countries of Aki. While they share sprawling grasslands and deep forests, they differ in their citizenship. Olfren is home to the sprawling city of trade; Pallo. Which is said to house every race of Aki under one roof. Babia, on the other hand, is home to a lively port, and even livelier fisher-mongers. These two countries also house some of the last remaining vestiges of Old God worship in Aki. The worshipers of the Sky-Mother in Olfren and the followers of the All-Father in Babia.

Alvia is home to the Elves of Aki. These pointy-eared denizens are wonders in Sol manipulation, making some of the most proficient mages in the realm. Whether it be the grey skinned Avalonian Elves or the fair skinned Furrian elves, all the denizens of Aki know the pride and elegance that comes from Elven Culture.

Terran is home to the mysterious dwarves of Aki. In their underground city of Dirk, the dwarves reside; cut off from the rest of Aki. Little is known of Dirk, as outsiders are not welcomed, and dwarves are sworn to secrecy should they leave their home in search of adventure.

Cyrill is the sprawling capital of Aki. What can be said about this shining city that hasn't already been sung about? Do you seek adventure? Cyrill is home to the strongest Guild of adventurers the world has ever seen; Adamantium. Prefer to be nose deep in books and scrolls? The Grand Library might be more your speed. Or perhaps you see yourself as a Manipulator of Sol, there's no better place to learn than the University of Sol Manipulation.

Across the sea to the south of the mainland of Aki resides..

Eden is Aki's most rebuked country. Many people believe Eden to be the home of the Nightfolk or Nightkin. These devilish monstrosities are said to be the children of demons. With Pitch black skin, eyes of Crimson or Gold, Claws and fangs like beasts and Pointed ears like a bat, these demons are hated and feared throughout Aki. It has been close to a century since the last Nightkin was seen on the mainland of Aki, and even longer since anyone stepped foot on Eden. Whatever these creatures get up to on their blasphemous rock, one should take great care to stay very far away.

Our story begins in the country of Babia. A village resides on the edge of a forest, this is the village of Lachia. Our story follows Eiras Lockehart, a young boy who has just turned 10 years old. The village of Lachia has special plans for those who turn 10, as they are allowed to take part in The Hunting Rite. A ritual which will allow Eiras to take up the mantle of "hunter", just like his father; John Lockehart. In the village of Lachia, Hunting is a necessity, the denizens of the village live off the land and look to their Hunters to take care of them. Hunting is seen in such high regard in fact that the village of Lachia is essentially run by a group of well renowned hunters called The Hunters Circle. Each member of The Circle has exemplified their prowess and might to the village, and they can only be appointed to the circle by being appointed from members of the village. Eiras, however, has no desire to become a part of the hunters circle. His goals lie elsewhere, in the great unknown expanse of the world. Spurred on by stories his mother told him, stories of great heroes and monstrous villains; Eiras wants to become a hero, someone who protects the weak.

As Eiras begins his journey into adulthood, what kind of man will he become? Will he get to live out his dreams of becoming a hero like in the stories his mother told him? With such a vast world filled with wonders and mysteries, how will Eiras Lockeharts story be written in the sands of time?
