A Simon Changing Experience

A Simon Changing Experience

It started out on a boring day when I was sixteen years of age. I woke up, got dressed, ate, brushed my teeth, and went to church with my family. Then I would endure serious time. This was when we needed to be serious, but some idiots would interrupt everything. We called this Priest’s Quorum.

The room was big enough to fit a flat screen television, chalkboard, multiple posters, a huge table, and huge chairs for the table. Electric lights illuminated the room. I sat across from my best friend Truman. As we united another cloudy Sunday, a team of idiots sat on his left.

“Welcome. This Wednesday we will be helping the Laurels with a mutual activity," said Austin.

This piqued my interest. They always surprised me with the best activities. "With what? What can we do to help?"

Annoying human number one leaned back in his chair that wasn't his and smiled. "Probably a date."

Annoying human number two gave his friend a high five. “Dude, I was thinking the same thing!”

Good grief, the comedy show has started. I groaned. Somebody help me.

“I don’t know about you guys, but I think this guy already has them lining up at his front door.” said annoying man number three to annoying man number four.

"They’ve already started, man. I already got some restraining orders on them.”

"Listen, now is the time for us to talk about God," said Brother Peace. Yes, thank goodness he took the show back!

The war of seriousness versus silliness commenced. The serious side ruled the kingdom until the idiots made a chain reaction of jokes and stories. During this, Seriousness fought back hard. It wasn't long before an all out vocal war of nonsense was in our midst. Class was doomed. I walked out an hour later with a splitting headache.

Everywhere small islands of children smothered the premises. They came from Primary. These little kids were less easily distracted than my peers.

When I made it to the other side, two familiar faces greeted me. The first girl was brunette in a blue and white dress. The next was a girl with black hair who wore glasses and a white dress.

“Simon!” The brunette Kaily greeted me ecstatically, giving me a hug like my very presence had brightened her day.

“Hi, how are you?” I smiled letting go of the hug.Her happiness cheered me up instantly since what goes around comes around. How could I not be happy?

“Awesome, but we can't talk long since Mandy and I are going to choir!” She continued. “She finally agreed to join us so that is super cool. Just came to say ‘hi’. Bye, see you later!” She gave me another hug and then skipped over to the open page by some drinking fountains on my left.

As Mandy followed Kaily to the room she turned around in a light happy voice with a grin to face me, “Oh, the Pross's are having a welcome back party… you should come. It'll be rad and stuff. Pretty awesome you know what I mean?”

She then disappeared into the room like Kaily. I walked to the church foyer smiling to myself. I should have known the Prosses would have come back here to California. They had always never been able to stay in the same place for very long.

At the Foyer, I met up with my sister and we drove off in our old Toyota Corolla that had paint peeling off the top of it. I found it so much fun to peel that stuff off! It gave me a warm set of satisfaction inside with warm fuzzies. My sister didn’t like it when I did that and hurried me up to get into the car to have me stop by giving me the car keys so I could open my page and get in.

“How was Church?” she asked, setting his music player up to the cassette tape while we rode off.

I clicked my seat belt into its holder. “It was fine… just the usual… the Pross are having a welcome home party today so that’s pretty awesome.”

I was kind of jealous of Pross in a sense. Here they were going out and moving to all sorts of different places and different lifestyles while I was stuck living in the same place for my entire life. Man, I was ready to pack my backs and go see the world. I was a major extrovert with a mind that was so outside the box that it explored the land hundreds of miles away from it. Why would I stay here? Somewhere, somehow I was made to do something great; I didn’t know what it was but oh boy, I was going to do something awesome with my life. Just a little more patience and then I could finally accomplish my dreams.

Okay, I had to wait over a year, but I’ve been alive for many more so this one shouldn’t be a problem, right?

As I sat there reflecting my life a sudden voice appeared in the back of the car making me gasp and flinch at the same time. It was the very voice that started the success of my dreams. “Man these seats are cramped! How do you sit in this thing?”

Before I could turn around a hand grabbed my shoulder and instead sitting on a nice piece of cushion I fell onto dirty soil. In horror, I saw my sister’s car be smashed by a flying blue rectangular box and then crash-land into the ground behind me. I felt bad for her trapped in the car. It should’ve been me alone in that wrecked car instead of my sister. A spike of curiosity rose in my bosom and I turned to face the blue box and my rescuer was completely bewildered and scared by their presence.

He had broad shoulders with brown hair and a long dark blue trench coat that slightly blew in the wind. It gave him a villainous feeling and I nearly gasped in fear.

What if he wasn’t there to save me but actually there to abduct me? What if this was a terrorist attack and I was randomly picked up to be his hostage!? Augh!

Thoughts of terror ran laps throughout my head. They collapsed and died when the ‘villain’ turned around with a smile and helped me up.

“Sorry for the intrusion, but the Time Machine was out of control. We haven’t formally met. I’m Jacob, Jacob Legend.”

“Ummm…” I stammered, shaking his hand. I was very uneasy at this sudden friendly gesture. “And I’m Simon, Simon Legend …I mean Simon Osheena.”

A voice rang out behind us from a golden car. “Ah, so you're the Chosen One. Now this is when the adventure is going to get interesting… Ha, ha!”
