Spoils of Battle

eonhardt walked back home with slightly limping, singed skin, and blackened hairs.

One may have thought he was in bad condition, but the wounds were all just superficial.

The limp, however, was due to his tesseract bag. They could have a different size multiplier and weight reduction.

However, the one Althea made was quite a piece, and it had the function of changing one for the other.

Leonhardt favored weight over carry size and suffered the consequences.

Well, he was not exactly suffering, he wasn't affected enough to care.

Althea came running out, Max in tow, to see Leonhardt, she had felt the battle, and seeing him at all was a relief.

"Leonhardt, what happened?! Are you okay? You look burnt! Do you need a healing spell?"

Althea fired these out in rapid succession, to the point Leonhardt almost didn't understand, and that Max was startled, and thought something was wrong.

"You'll see, yes, excellent observation, and more of a cleaning one, yes. Now, come with me, I brought something big!"

Althea cast a small water spell to wash Leonhardt off and followed him when he gestured for her to accompany him.

"We've been walking for a while, are you sure you didn't just wanna get me to look at something in the woods?"

Leonhardt reached for the bag.

"Nope, I'll bring it out, get prepared."

Max got into Althea's arms, and then the dragonoid popped back into existence.

The wind from it almost blew them back, and both Max and Althea were in awe at the size of the creature.

"What the hearth?! Leonhardt, what even is this thing?"

Max was already reaching out for the creature, once he saw the shiny scales coating it.

"A dragonoid raijin. No big deal. Honestly, the meats gotta be pretty good, dragon and boar? Like wow!"

Leonhardt blabbered about the quality of his hunt, while Althea was occupied checking whether he was hurt, and Max had already managed to find a scale that fell off and was chewing on it.

"So the fight went well? You don't seem hurt."

"Well, yeah. Ice is pretty strong against lightning, probably one of the best matchups I could have, considering dragons are more similar to mages."

"That's true... How is Max already eating one of the scales?! Get back here Max!"

Max briskly walked over, scale in hand, and then started chewing on it again.

"Max, I want you to stop chewing on the scale. Honestly, you aren't even teething anymore, why do you still do this!"

Max had stopped chewing for now and kept the scale in his pocket. A snack for later, it seemed.

The family then started to tour the dragonoid and think of ways they could use the corpse.

"Hmm."

Althea had gotten Leonhardt to cut out a piece of meat and was now boiling the small bit with some herbs that Leonhardt still had.

Once it was done she cut it into one medium, one large, and a tiny piece.

She then conjured a plate with earth magic and gave them all some similarly-made utensils.

"Max, do you want some?"

Althea waved the fork with some of the food in her hand, and Max's eyes simply followed it in a funny-looking way.

"Okay."

They all ate, and the verdict was...

"Woah, this is great!"

Althea was happy.

"Can I have some more?"

Max was hungry.

"Yeah, you can thank me."

Leonhardt was proud.

Now that they had tested if the meat was high quality, they moved on to the other parts.

"Leonhardt, you didn't get the organs right?"

Althea looked at Leonhardt expectantly, which was a hard case to beat.

"I don't think so, you can use them for whatever you need."

"Yes! Do you know how good a heart like this would be? First, it's a dragonoid, and it has a lightning affinity! It'll speed up any magical circuit tenfold! I can use it for so-"

Althea could go on for hours about enchanting, it was one of her fortes as a mage.

"Yes, Yes, I'll listen later when you are crafting, but we need to get to the other parts... The bones!"

Bones of magical creatures were quite useful for swordsmen, and also for mages, though less.

For normal humans, the bones would create blood through the bone marrow, which was one of their main functions.

For any magical creatures or manaborn, however, they would circulate mana and aether, making them incredible magical conductors.

This could mean amazing swords or greatly efficient mana tools.

"Hmm... Alright, I'll help you make your sword."

While Leonhardt didn't know how to blacksmith before running away, afterward he learned, and he didn't do terribly.

After all, knowing a blade, and all the important factors in their strength was half of the job, which he had done.

The scales were different. Funnily enough, Max had contributed to the discovery of their use.

Althea had noticed Max as he kept on biting on the scale, and had to ask him why he wanted it so much.

"Its... Like tickling my mouth."

"Huh? Let me try."

Althea got a scale, and after biting it a few times, realized... They had an electrical charge!

This was incredibly useful, as many features in the house could be improved with a little bit of electricity.

But, that would mean Althea had some work to do.
