Chapter 6: Noble Roots

That night, Liam couldn’t stop thinking about his family’s history. His father’s words echoed in his mind: his grandfather, an archduke in the capital, had left the book behind, but no one could read it. Except for Liam.

“Why would Grandfather know this language?” Liam whispered to himself, staring at the book by candlelight. He flipped through its pages again, marveling at the intricate diagrams of mana channels and aura flows. The author clearly understood magic on a level far beyond anything Liam had seen in the village.

The next day, Liam approached his father again. “Papa, was Grandfather always a noble?”

Elric laughed. “Of course. He’s been an archduke since his youth. But he earned his reputation. He left home for his fifteen years like the rest of us, traveled the continent, and proved his worth. When he returned, he took up his duties.”

Liam nodded, trying to absorb it all. His grandfather’s noble status explained much, but not the book. He decided to learn more when his grandfather visited next.

For now, though, he resolved to master the knowledge in the book. It would give him an edge—both in understanding magic and uncovering the truth about his family. But one thing still lingered in his mind: the name of the continent. The people of the village simply called it “the world,” but Liam wanted something more.

Sitting by the window, he gazed at the horizon. “Aurion,” he whispered, naming the land in his heart. This would be the first of many changes he would bring to this world.
