5- Enemy

5- Enemy

The newly created Doppelgänger walked down the street a few blocks, hopefully far enough away from his apartment that any other cops that whoever, if anyone, came to check on the cops who went to his apartment they wouldn't find anybody. He headed to a nearby ATM and withdrew the $2500 which was the daily allowance for officer Gomes's card, could be useful if things stabilise enough that stores start opening again.

Walking down the street he started wondering what it was he should do, he was pretty sure he was gonna need to eat something pretty soon so he should start thinking about where to find someone to snack on. Lost in his thoughts as he was, he was completely oblivious to the two saucer size yellow eyes gazing at him from the shadows of the alleyway, therefore it came as a great surprise when an alley cat the size of a tiger leapt at him, tackling him to the ground. One of its claws dug into the body armour covering his torso whilst another scored a large scratch down the bicep of his left arm.

"Fuuuuuck!" he exclaimed, clenching his new teeth in pain as he swung the shotgun around his body and fired it into the chest of the roided out kitty squirming on top of him.

WARNING Damage dealt- 25HP

He definitely felt like a shotgun blast at point blank range should have done much more damage than that, something was seriously wrong here. Both he and the big cat scrambled to his feet, John could see that whilst the blast had definitely injured the cat, the bullets had become lodged in the thick muscle of the cat's chest and not penetrated much further. The two eyed each other carefully for a second, the cat clearly unhappy about the turn of events, then as John steadied his aim the cat pounced, performing a feat of agility that only cats are able to, it squirmed out the way of the blast and sailed towards John. With more than a little panic John, swung the shotgun with all his might to try and intercept. Not expecting the shotgun to become an impromptu club the cat suddenly felt the impact of heavy metal against the side of its head.

WARNING Damage Dealt -11HP

Unfortunately for him, it seems that wasn't nearly enough to send 400lbs of claws and fur off course as the cat still barrelled straight at him. It did, however, manage to knock it aside enough that it hit him in the shoulder rather than the chest, sending him spinning as they both once again returned to the ground.

WARNING

This time the Cat was the one to get to its feet first and swatted at the scrambling john, sending him rolling a few feet to the side.

WARNING

Damage taken -20HP

HP 50/100

He kept rolling until he passed underneath a car trying to put something between him and the cat before it tore him apart, seconds later a large head and sharp claw followed him trying to scratch at him under the car, another loud BANG and it took a shot to the head

WARNING Critical hit in a vital area for 2X damage Damage dealt- 45HP

Much to his disappointment, however, the slug was again stopped by the cat's abnormally thick skull, failing to kill it. He rolled out of the other side and pumped the chamber of his shotgun again just as the cat jumped on top of the car. Another blast echoed down the empty street, this time taking the cat in it's left paw as it wound up to smack him

WARNING Damage dealt -13HP

Though it wasn't as damaging as if he had hit it centre mass or in the head, this shot took one of its paws out of commision and caused the cat to spin around and fall off the car. Running around he levelled the shotgun at the cat, only to have a claw bat it away, cutting through the sash holding it to his body. Quickly backing away from his wounded foe John pulled out his pistol and unloaded into the cat's chest

Barely keeping itself together, the cat once more pounced onto what it thought would be easy pray which clearly had teeth of its own. Collapsing to the ground with a huge weight on his chest John lost hold of the handgun. The cat wasted little time, attempting to bite down on his head only to find an arm lodged between its teeth. It bit down.

WARNING

With no other weapons and his HP quickly evapourating John reverted back to his Doppelgänger form, the abrupt change in weight and shape caused the cat to lose grip of his arm and with reckless abandon, John started slashing at the cat with both of its claws

Level Up!

You have 5 undistributed stat points

Panting and not quite believing that he survived, John squeezed out from underneath the dead cat. looking down at his wounds he found that he wasn't bleeding, instead what came out of his chew toy of an arm was a viscous black goo that filled up the wound. It did nothing for his HP but he would at least not bleed out. Looking at the level up notification he decided to wait to spend his points for a while until he knew a bit more about what was going on. There isn't much point in putting points in a stat he won't use after all. He then turned back to the corpse beside him, he didn't think that he could carry it comfortably around in his inventory so he dragged it into the alley that it pounced at him from. Once there he knelt down, opened his obscenely large mouth and began to crunch down on the hind leg of the cat, it was big enough that he could only eat one of the legs before feeling rather full. Using his sharp claws to slice away most of the flesh and a strong, two-handed yank, he separated the other leg from its body and put it in his inventory, then he used Assimilate on it.

Shrugging at his bad luck he began surveying the damage to his equipment. His clothes were ruined so they were quickly put into a nearby dumpster and changed for a fresh set from his inventory. Luckily it seemed his inventory stored everything separately and they were not in fact covered in cat blood and viscera. The shotgun, from a combination of being used as a club and then being swatted hard into the concrete, had had its durability reduced to 1 and no longer fired. This also got tossed in the dumpster though he kept the ammo just in case, the pistol seemed to be fine and though it didn't do a whole lot it was still a ranged weapon he didn't normally have. He put it back into the holster and also decided to put one of the batons on his waste to check out how it compared to his claws, at the very least it would be good if something needed some blunt force trauma applied to it. He then pulled out the rifle, swung it over his shoulder and with a glance at his HP telling him he was at 30HP shifted back into the form of officer Jacobs and walked into a nearby apartment building to hold up and maybe find someone new to feed his assimilate skill.
