Magic suffuses the world around us. Just as there are currents of air in the skies above, currents of water in the vast oceans and rivers, and currents of magma in the core of our planet so too are there currents of magic that envelope our world. But the three primal forces of magic that surround us are not the only forms. There is also the ‘godly’ aspects of magic that come from or derived from the powers of gods. Though belief in the gods is not required to use such magic, their very being spreads their aspect through the world allowing many to use those aspects to a degree. But through research it has been shown belief or favor of the gods does influence how well one can use such magic’s. All together Earth, Water, Air, Light and Darkness comprise the five aspects of magic that are known as the Core Magics. From these five aspects combinations of these aspects create the many Lesser Magics. Although I use the term with hesitation as being a ‘lesser’ does not mean ‘weaker’ than the Core Magics.
Some scholars would have you believe that a sixth aspect, Fire, is also a part of the Core Magics, which is nothing but idiocy and lack of proper research on their part. Fire magic is a derivative of life magic as fire itself is alive. It breathes, it consumes, it dies. I will, however, propose that a combination of all aspects in a delicate balance will create a form of pure magic, which I believe is the source of every magic, every other aspect, even Core Magics, simply a ‘diluted’ form. For lack of a better term. Theoritecally it can be used for any form of magic with little effort of its user. The exact balance of these magics has thus far eluded me and remains the main point of research as you will read in later chapters of this book, as well as my previous six books of magic theory, magic application, and my four volumes of Aspect Balancing: Practice Makes Perfect.

Alexander closed his book. His boney hands pushing up against his eyes, rubbing as he got fed up going through his old magical studies books, one could read Grand Mage Mills works for so long before his inane ramblings got to the reader. Even in his simpler titles like this.
It had been close to three months now, his work was nearing completion but was finding the maturation time of key components for the grand magic he was preparing for was the most excruciating time. There was little to do, at all, other than read, and theorize. He had taken up talking his ideas at his singing crystals, a curious gem that could record or mimic sounds when a little bit of magic was applied to it. This, however, got old just as fast as reading the ramblings of a man that was obsessed with himself and his own research. But it was in this line of thought that an idea struck.
What if a voice was given to non-life? Calling for his construct he got to work. This new project a perfect distraction from having to wait around for his ingredients to mature. Taking his animated armor back to the slab once more he disassembled the now dusty armor and set to extracting the enchantments that had made it move. Twisting and altering the protector to interact with singing crystals, taking time to enable mimicry of sounds as well as creation of new sounds rather than just a recording of what was spoken at it. The enchantment was simple but effective, and the application of a fist sized crystal into the breastplate would enable for a wider range of volumes than more conservative crystals used for simple conversation logs as most were used for. Once in Alexander beamed a grin of delight at his completion. His creation forming back into a body roughly sized of a man. Ready to stand guard once more with handprints now visible over its dusty body where it was held and manipulated during its upgrade.

“Go on, your creator has given you a voice. So speak!”
Alexander would quickly regret not testing this first as his ears were given a sharp piercing screech as the construct started to apply magic to the new gem. The sounds shifting slowly lower and lower before quickly bouncing back up into a middle range as words began to flow.
“aaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaA Greeting To You Master.”
The words were cold and unfeeling as it responded.
“What Would You Have Of Me?”
Taking his hands from his ears Alexander grinned and circled his construct, wondering just how far he could take such a magical wonder. “Oh for now you will just need to respond to my questions and listen to me as I speak, you will still have your duties of guarding the entrance to this floor, but for now I will have more plans of just what to do with you. So many plans are now filling my head with possibilities.” Alexander was practically cackling with the wicked ideas that swam in his mind.
“But for now...” Alexander paused as he contemplated what he should do with the new functions of his guardian.
“I want to hear you sing, I want to hear the range of vocal mimicry you are capable of. Can you still use those songs that used to be stored?”
The construct froze as it explored itself, it didn’t see why having a voice was going to help with its job but it didn’t have the right to question its master. Searching through its gem it now had acquisition of. While it did have samples of voices and songs they had been altered upon being installed onto its body and connected to its runic matrix that dictated its actions and function. Still it started to apply magic in the way the crystal remembered still. But the sounds that came out were not what one could reasonably call ‘singing’ and were far more akin to a coarse speaking of lyrics in a satire of a song.
“Stop. Stop. That is enough.” Alexander grumbled. “You have a new task any time you are standing guard, you will have to practice using your gem and work on getting proper pitch and tone for songs, as well as making your voice not as if you were reading a manual on uses of manure!” He waved his hand dismissing his construct. “Go back to you repost, I will call for you once I have your next enhancement in mind and ready.” Alexander’s mind abuzz with potential uses for his golem, pausing before calling out. “But don’t just stand there using your magic up vocalizing, if you are about to run out come to me right away! I’d hate to lose all the work on your runes just because you sang yourself out of mana in your core!”
The construct gave a curt nod and a monotonous “Yes Master.” Before turning and making its way back towards its post. Light thumping of boots on the stone floors as it reached the stairwell between floors. It had been created to protect so it was confused about its new functions but didn’t question it as it started to apply its magic from its core towards its crystal. The gem giving a little monotone hum as it began to vocalize. It was rough and coarse but did its best to work on mimicking a proper human voice from what knowledge it did have of human speaking and singing. Pausing every time it heard something that may end up an intruder and try to return to its act as a suit of armor. From solitude and silent watch to a rough melodic watch its existence was changing more than it would have liked.
