The world is quite beautiful in some regards. Tales of mischief and magic, heroes and villains, love and wrath. Even in the darkest hours of man, there is also hope. Stories of great adventurers and heroes spread throughout the realms and give inspiration to children everywhere, cultivating the next generation of heroes. The Continent of Atica, the place of many stories, heroes, villains, and tragedies. The world of Yard, taught to be the creation of the gods and goddesses, to create believers and creatures, to give life to their creation.
In a mediocre sized continent, in a mediocre sized country in a mediocre sized town stand this generation's newest heroes. The town of Ymin.
“Jana, hurry or we will miss the wagon to Whitefall.” called Gideon, a young elfish boy, small and pale. He always had a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
“Coming.” answered Jana, the human sorcerer, her beautiful blonde hair swaying as she ran to meet with Gideon. The rest of the group consisted of Malar the human paladin, stocky, of average height and Yorin, the Half Orc cleric, with whom all find comfort and safety. As the heroes climbed into the last wagon leaving Fort Ymin, they chatted among themselves. They were excited, and had a huge appetite for adventure. As they continued to ride along the road, leaving the town on the south side, Gideon’s sharp ears heard a noise he was all too familiar with.
LLIK MEHT! KCATTA!
The scream rang through the air, and at first the world stood still, then all at once a horde of goblins emerged from the tree lines that surrounded the town of Ymin. Goblins, settled in the trees, shot arrows covered in acid at the caravan of people and beasts. The oxen pulling the wagon were the first to succumb to the effects of the acid and die. The driver and Gideon were hit next. While the driver died, Gideon and the rest of the crew jumped out of the wagon and took cover behind it. Jana flung spells along with Yorin at the tree line and the encroaching goblin horde. Sadly, it became very apparent that they would overrun them soon. In the heat of the moment Gideon flung his daggers at two goblins, they flashed back to his hands as the green skinned monsters began chopping at him, hitting his chest and face.
I… missed? Gideon thought as he died.
Malar had readied himself and prepared to fight, rushing in to help Jana and Yorin, swinging his sword striking a few goblins dead, taking one's head clean off. A goblin pack of Worgs descended on the crew as they continued fighting. As if by the grace of the gods a pink light flashed across the battlefield, but only the crew noticed it. The caravan guards were losing and were too preoccupied. The Crew held their position the best they could. From the southern entrance of the fort came a large quartz golem. 20 feet tall, made of jagged rose quartz and glowing, this towering behemoth of a construct barreled down on anything, or anyone in its way. Unfortunately the Crew were standing between it and the goblin horde. It battered them away, killing Yorin and Jana at time of impact. Malar only survived due to the golem missing him entirely with its arm and knocking him down, and thus out, as it stomped past. He would not know the fate of his friends for quite some time.

The goblin horde was eventually fought back, in retreat, and Fort Ymin was safe once more. The untimely deaths of the most worthy heroes was heartbreaking news… to their parents, these cunts hadn’t even come up with a group name yet. Just met, like, a day prior.

Fucking disappointing again Qonos thought to himself, watching the events of the goblin attack come to an end. The god of War and Industry was fairly entertained by the heroes he and his colleagues had chosen. The plan was to let them adventure for a while, prove their worth, which the gods knew they would, and make them their respective heroes. More friends and allies would join along the way revealing the true potential they all held, they would save the day and be done. But now, with the chosen heroes dead, the gods had lost the bet and could not choose again for another millennium. Unfortunately for the inhabitants of Yard, and more specifically Atica, a great calamity was going to unfold.
“There is nothing to do about it now, Brother.” Yenefer, the Goddess of the Sun, said in her ever angelic voice. Each and every God of the universe had watched the events unfold, and were all feeling a tad disappointed. All except for one, Marina, the Goddess of Death and Commerce. She, as always, took no delight nor disdain in any events pertaining to the chosen heroes. She was and always will be, emotionless to the common mortals.
“Now Marina, what opinion do you have about what happened?’ Yenefer asked her sister.
“Nothing interesting, Sister. As per my usual response to that question, I have no opinion.”
“Come now sweet sister,” Yenefer chirped” not even one emotion of disappointment? Sadness? Your hero was the first to die, but yet, you feel nothing for him. Poor Gideon. The boy only left home a few months prior.” Marina made no visible expression, of course, considering she wore the skull of the very first creature to ever die as a mask. It was a bighorn sheep. Its death marked the start of her own life so many eras ago.“What about you Jennifer?” Yenefer had moved to her twin, to hold her hand.” Do you not feel for brave Yorin, one of the most worth Jenniferi I- no, we have ever seen.”
“Of course I do Yen!” Jennifer the Goddess of Justice barked. She was weeping for him under satin white eye wraps. She was distraught. She was also, in her mind, supposed to be the bravest and most stoic of them all. Qonos, undoubtedly, thought it to be himself. “Then show me, my dear one.” Yenefer said as she slowly removed Jennifer's wrappings, revealing nothing but white eyes, sun bleached and blind form when Yen had, in her rage, amassed a huge amount of energy and cast Jennifer away. She had used so much power and she burned so bright that Jennifer had not had enough time to close her eyes or turn away from her twin, she was blinded, fated never to see with her own eyes ever again.
“My sweet, how these events have afflicted you,” Yenefer pulled her sister close after seeing the tears welling in her eyes. “Let us speak of this no more. Come with me, and we shall speak of better things, as sisters do.” Yenefer and Jennifer whisked away as balls of ethereal light and disappeared from the presence of the other Gods still in attendance.
“Well, I suppose there is still work to do. Marina, Berry, Malan, Lady Aedra, farewell and I hope to see you all again soon.” Qonos said as he gave a curt nod to each, but instead bowed to Lady Aedra, the entirely naked, Goddess of Lust. With that the remaining gods said their goodbyes and departed for their own pockets of reality.
