Aaron ran out of his room, eager to experiment with his ability. He had been practising 24/7 since he got his ability a half a year ago. Today was the day he would have his first fight. Him and his friend agreed to not tell each other about their respective abilities until the day of the fight. He grabbed his bicycle and rode as fast as he could to the local training centre and rushed into the building, looking around for Training Room 5. Finally he saw the room and began a mad dash in a hope not to be late. As he ran into the room, his friend looked at him in an excited stupor. The blonde haired boy shot him a toothy grin, "Let's do this," he said.
A metallic voice began saying, "Rank Challenge issued by Damian Smith, do you accept?"
"Yes," Aaron said anxiously, "I accept."
Instantly, a small shard of glass shot towards him ; Aaron tried to move out of the way, but it managed to deliver a glancing cut. Observing the attack, he tried to extrapolate what his ability could be. From his knowledge of Damian, Aaron knew his strongest subject was physics, he had even been offered college scholarships at the age of 12 and had been hailed as a once in a lifetime prodigy. The only way such control could be granted was if the ability was highly specialised and only allowed manipulation of glass, but that was unlikely. The other way this was possible, is if the wielder had a deep understanding of the ability. He originally thought it may have been telekinesis, but remembered that because it was such a mentally intensive skill, initiates suffered from severe fatigue when they used it. This fatigue stops them from using it as effortlessly as Damian just did, but this depended on their mental fortitude. No, Aaron thought it was a rarer, but more specific ability - Vector Manipulation.
In his retreat, Aaron realised he was backed into a wall. He racked his brain thinking of ways he could do some damage using his ability, but slowly realisation dawned on him - He didn’t have to utilise his powers to hurt Damian. Aaron looked around the room for anything to use, spotting a fire extinguisher. Exerting all of his mental strength, Aaron slowly started removing the colour from everything in the room. All of the colour in the room congealed into a ball made of a substance that looked like paint, getting smaller and smaller. Suddenly, the blob disappeared and the room was in complete and utter darkness. Aaron hoped this move would be the one to turn the tide. He took advantage of the darkness to grab the fire extinguisher. Growing frustrated, Damian launched shrapnels of glass everywhere in the room, piercing Aaron across his body. Looking into his mana reserves, he only had enough energy for one more attack. The situation only seemed to get more and more hopeless.

Aaron briefly let go of his powers to identify where Damian was, only leaving a colourless void around Damian. As he ran towards his opponent, he heard a crunching noise below him. Then, filled with dread, he looked down. A shard of glass cracked, piercing through his foot and alerting his foe to his presence. Aaron, in a panic, let loose of his powers. Everything started flashing different colours, in a dizzying kaleidoscope of dark and light. Damian was completely caught off guard by the swirling and disorienting patterns. Taking advantage of this, Aaron ran up behind him and started smashing him with the fire extinguisher. After a series of sickening crunches, Aaron stopped using his powers. Damian lay on the floor, in a pool of his own blood. His body was completely blue, covered with bruises. Bones were sticking out of his body at unnatural angles, his legs twisted backwards. He was dead, Aaron was sure of it. The metallic voice returned, “Rank Battle complete, Winner - Aaron Baxter.” As the realisation dawned on him, Aaron exclaimed, "Ha... HA! YES!" This was surreal, he had won his first battle. Still in a daze, Aaron watched as the room glowed green, and both of their injuries healed. Damian would be bed-ridden for at least a few days, owing to the fact that coming back from the dead was a unique experience to say the least.
Even though Aaron won, he knew his performance was extremely insufficient - he had something to prove after all.
