Chapter 18.5

Chapter 18.5

Two police officers walked up to Dean and Sonya in Pikes Place Market. Sonya being covered in dried blood and smelling like she hadn’t washed in weeks. Dean constantly grabbing her probably made him appear to be trying to kidnap her. Sans the white van.

“Does there seem to be a problem here ma’am?” police number 1 asked. His hand on his gun rather than his taser.

The crowd instantly gave them room as people began to pull out their phones to record them. Some idiot even yelled world star.

Police number 2 yelled at the crowd to go back to their business. That there was nothing to see here. Nobody moved, the crowd only became more packed with people.

Dean looked at cop number 1 and reached for his wallet not thinking. “This is a big misunderstanding,” he said.

“STOP,” cop number 1 yelled. His hand on his gun.

Cop number 2 spun away from the crowd to face Dean his gun drawn. His hand shaking a little from the adrenalin rush.

Dean saw this out of the corner of his eye and froze instantly. His hand still on Sonya’s arm, he felt her tense up ready for fight or flight. He squeezed her arm in a hopefully reassuring way trying to get her to calm down.

“I’m just reaching for my wallet,” Dean said in a calm voice. “I work for Homeland Security. This lady is a witness in an ongoing investigation,” he said. He had practiced saying things like this for weeks. His youth and not being in a suit working against him.

“Slowly please,” cop number 1 said as he watched Dean closely.

Pulling out his wallet, Dean flipped it open, identifying himself. The cop reached over grabbing the wallet out of his hand to get a closer look. After reading his badge to his radio, he handed it back after verifying his identity.

“Sorry Agent Fabre, but you don’t look like an agent for Homeland,” he said as he relaxed a little giving their names, Houger and Kovak. “Can we assist you with this,” he began to say as he looked at Sonya more closely, “suspect?” Houger asked.

“Actually yes I would,” Dean said letting go of Sonya. “Can you give us a ride to a Starbucks in Pioneer Square?

“Yeah I guess we can,” Houger said.

“Really Hougs?” Kovak said. Not getting the chance to see Dean's identity he was still a little suspect. Holstering his gun he tried to seem like he was shaken as he walked up.

Houger handed Dean his wallet back before Kovak could look at it. As the crowd dispersed Houger led them to the vehicle. Sonya suddenly tackled Dean as the sound of a gun went off. Slamming into the ground Dean caught sight of Anil in the crowd pointing a gun at him.

People started to scream and run as Anil pushed through the crowd. His gun leveled at Dean, Kovak came at him from his blind side tackling him. Twisting with inhuman skill Anil threw Kovak to the ground. Then stomped on his arm snapping it.

His gun leveled back at Dean, Houger shot him with a taser stunning him. His Fay constitution ignoring the worst of the effect but still dropped the gun. Houger attempted to spray him with pepper spray but Anil lunged at him catching him with a haymaker. Houger hitting the ground, Anil leaped over him running at Dean with murder in his eyes.

Dean managed to get his gun out in time to shoot Anil in the arm wounding him. Grabbing his arm Anil ran into a store and quickly disappearing in the panicked crowd.

Kovak pale and sweaty with a broken arm needed help up as Houger called in the assault.

Dean holstered his gun and turned to thank Sonya for the save. Missing in action Dean spun around in a circle looking for her. Yelling out her name felt silly but was his only idea. Someone taking the hint he was looking for her yelled, “she went that way,” and pointed at an alley.

“Shit,” he said realizing she had given him the slip. He needs to get to Dorion and let him know what was going on. Looking at Houger rubbing his jaw, he wondered if could still get that ride.
