Chapter two “Status Screen.”

Chapter two “Status Screen.”

Mung had gotten a second bottle just for himself. Three minutes later it was half gone, and he still seemed sober. Arthur on the other hand was looking through the blue screen that showed him an array of information about himself, it was important to look over and he didn’t want to miss anything. Mung interrupted his train of thought “So where you say you were born and raised, there is no magic information tablet in everyone's head? What do you have instead?” Arthur replied without really thinking “racism, drugs, corrupt authority.” Mung shook his head “Nah, we already have all of those.” then paused and squinted at Arthur “I thought you said you only had the humans where you come from, how is there racism?” Arthur responded bluntly "Skin color, Nationality." Mung just scoffed "Ridiculous."

Arthur felt a headache coming on. This guy was a berserker? It made sense to him in a way; he had always dealt with some pretty bad anger issues. He worried that the class was usually known for being right in the middle of furious battles, and often ended up dead in the books he had read for the same reason. Arthur frowned deeply at the next line. "Species unknown?" He mumbled to himself.

He was further dismayed to see how little the now absent Atreus had invested in health. Arthur started to realize he might have been forced into a body that acted like a glass cannon. His luck stat was weirdly high. Arthur noticed that his gambling tier was even higher than his berserker tier; though he had no idea how that affected actually playing dice or fighting.

The sling and small blade tiers didn’t really surprise him. Slings were apparently pretty effective when they were used even against enemies in plate armor in medieval times. And a knife was a knife, often used in any world for sliding between the gaps in the same armor. The club skill weirded him out though, maces were probably good against some armor. Arthur thought to himself that he probably would have preferred an axe skill instead.

His abilities also made Arthur a bit queasy, having already experienced Rage before. He guessed that it gave him a bonus to strength and possibly more resilience to damage. True Leverage sounded very interesting, having leverage in a fight was very helpful. If this ability made it easier to get or even create his own leverage from nothing, knockout punches would be a given every time. 'Blood Fuels Me' and 'Finish him' were the abilities that made him uncomfortable. Having blood in the title hammered home the point of being a class that is fueled by violence and anger. When he focused his eyes on ‘Blood Fuels Me’ it caused a separate blue box to appear without him meaning it to.

Focusing on the obscured ability didn’t reveal another box. Arthur would just have to put that aside for now. Two blessings were also obscured in the same way, but the last line deeply intrigued him. It also made his heart sink into his stomach at the same time, and he focused on it until it brought up its own description. His eyes went wide as a shiny golden text box appeared in his vision.

Arthur went pale. A confirmation, supposedly from a real god saying that he was in a different dimension. A place with entirely different rules from where he once existed. A different universe. He barely even registered the fact that it gave him 6 powerful passive abilities as he went into an existential crisis. Mung noticed him go from the weirdly unfocused look people get when they look at their status screen, to a sunken haunted gaze that seemed to bore a metaphorical hole through the building. “Buddy?” Mung reached over with his long arm and tapped him on the shoulder until Arthur regained focus. The fact that he was tapped with a sharp goblin talon helped bring him back into the moment. Arthur took another deep drink from his glass. “This is a lot to think about.” The goblin just looked at him with concern, wondering what his fate might be.

Euld broke the tense moment by opening the door and ducking so he could stick his head into the small building. His shoulders pressed up against either side of the frame “Could I get a mug of grog, Mungy?”
