Betrayed, I looked at my brother with shocked eyes. Looking down, my chest was stabbed by the very sword I gave him on his Coming of Age ceremony.
"Reynold.."
I stared hard into his face as my consciousness fleet away. His face showed one last expression as my sight is finally filled with the darkness.
ARGH. I shot open my eyes, my heartbeat thundering my body. The smell of heavy sweat filled the air as I slowly calmed myself down.
"Why was that dream so... so real," I whispered to myself. Glancing at my phone, I noticed it was already 10 am. "A nightmare."
Getting myself together, I got off the bed and headed for the bathroom. Brushing my teeth, I looked into the mirror. Brown hair, dark brown eyes, and rosy lips.
"Why did the guy in my dream.. look so much like me?"
I contemplated but disregarded it as just a coincidence in the end. Anything can happen in a dream after all. I'll eventually forget it as the day goes on.
After putting on today's outfit, a simple t-shirt and shorts, I walked to my grocery store. Noticing the Saturday 20% off sale on the poster outside, I was prepared to get something to fill this week's worth of food.
"Adrian! Nice to see you finally woke up but with today's sale, the best meat is mostly gone already. You might want to rush if there's anything left at all."
I turned my head to the cashier at checkout line 3, "I know Joe, guess my alarm didn't go off."
Wasting no more time talking, I sprinted toward the grocery.
Picking the between romaine and iceberg lettuce, I contemplated my life so far. When did it become so peaceful? Having the thrill of my life exploring tombs and taking notes as an archaeologist to this everyday life.
Well, it's more like researching history's graveyards but it sounds much more awesome calling it exploring tombs.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
I let out a depressed sigh. I can't even get a girlfriend these 23 years. Maybe that's why my life is so boring.
Filling my large bag filled with a week's worth of food, I walked home.
The house was as empty as I had left it, making me let out another dejected sigh. Life is really lonely as a 23-year-old virgin. I had all the money I need but it's still as lonely without anybody huh.
I laid on the couch finishing today's chore. TV shows are getting more boring it seems. At least Forensic Files is still going strong today. At that time, my phone rung. I answered, putting on speakers.
"What do you need Liam."
A monotone voice came out the phone.
"We got an assignment, Adrian, we just need another digger. The British Museum got a site that could be at least 500 years old. We already mapped out a site."
"What about my pa-"
"Yes, your papers are already filled out and we got the permission and clearance."
I sighed, "Come on man, I already left that life behind. I got enough money."
Liam replied sternly, "It's been 2 weeks. Stop joking, we're flying to the site in 3 days."
"So Ryan, Nicole, Ivan, and Jenny?"
"As usual," Liam voice cut off and the call was over.
Geez, I have a 2 week break one time a year and this is how it ends. What a waste of this week's food.
The black clock on the wall continues on forward without a care.
The sky outside filled with constantly moving clouds.
The Forensic Files Forever Hold Your Peace finishes.
And I'm a sack of potato on the couch.
