Ch. 41 The Harvest Festival Fiasco Ends

Dorian and Doe-Ritter laughed after we finished off the vampires.

"I never would've thought you could move like that, Layne!" they said.

I smiled, thanking them for their compliments.

As we gathered outside the ferry, the old ringmaster briefed us on what had happened. The duke and the knight captain had successfully defeated all of the terrorists, while on this side we've vanquished the vampires and the Orthodoxy.

Thus, it could be said that this operation was successfully done, and officially over.

However, the ferry itself will prove to be quite a problem. As it was owned by the Orthodoxy, and now without any crew whatsoever, they will certainly visit here again to take it back. Though as long as we leave no evidence behind, we would certainly be able to drive them away. Since they too had done something wrong here, such as releasing test subjects in order to appease their curiosity.

As such, the ferry was left alone for now.

With all the problems dealt with, at least the ones that we were capable of taking care of, we went back to the manor.

There, Maria and Allocer were waiting for us in order to discuss the next steps we were going to take since by doing such a move, they'll be targeted, suspected, or at least punished by the Council for their incapability of controlling their subordinates.

The respective head of each faction went inside the Duke's office in order to discuss such problems. While we, of the "younger" generation, waited outside.

"Where will you go, little Maria?" Ciel ask.

"Since the Council's men have already been dealt with, and the Lifeblood vampires are safe under the Duke and the circus, I'll join either one of them." She replied, still out of it that even Ciel's usual way of addressing her, flew by her head.

"Why not choose the circus?"

"Why the circus? You're the Duke's son aren't you?"

"I'm also the assistant ringmaster of the circus, and since we'll move from city to city, you might also be able to run away from pursuers. Although, you might need a suitable role or outfit."

As Maria was about to reply, the door to the Duke's office opened. The discussion had already finished, and the Duke, as the master of the house, will be the one to brief everyone on its conclusion.

He went outside the manor, to where the knights and the circus were stationed while bringing the Lifeblood vampires with him.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

After everyone had gathered, he briefed the discussion's conclusion.

"So, as per the discussion with his Lordship Allocer, and Sir Ashur Bhan, it has been decided that all Lifeblood vampires shall be united under a new name, and they will be placed either under mine or Sir Ashur's guidance."

He took a glance at the surroundings, before continuing.

"The new name that will replace the term vampire, shall be bloodkin, and every bloodkin is free to choose to be placed under mine or Sir Ashur's care. Both of us had our own positive and negative sides to them, such as in Sir Ashur's care, they'll be more prone to moving around from city to city. While in my care, they'll have a stable life but needs to hide from time to time from the Council."

He cleared his throat.

"Every bloodkin that's interested in joining with either of us should go with the respective side chosen. That being said, let us end this briefing on a high note with the free ales provided by the Carter Duchy!"

His announcement was met with a boisterous cheer. Thus the day ended with the knights, the circus troupe, and the bloodkins, inebriated. It was only at 03.00 AM in the morning when the inebriated woke up groggily and went their separate ways.

Me, Ciel, and Maria already went our separate ways with Ciel returning to her own home, and Maria went with her godfather to discuss what would happen next.

Meanwhile, I went to my room in the manor, prepping myself to leave for good tomorrow after either buying or creating a wagon house myself which wasn't that hard considering I've advanced into a Local Deity.

Done with my preparation, I slept soundly; at least until Ciel woke me up for morning training.

As with the routine I did for the last few days, after I'm done with morning training and afternoon performance, I talked to Ciel about my idea of buying or creating a wagon house.

"So, what do you think?" I asked.

"It's a great idea! I would certainly move in with you, provided the space is big enough for both of us."

"Well, with you in favour of the idea, how about we look for a shop that could create one?"

Ciel nodded, taking my hand; leading me down the streets of Rivellon.

A while later. In front of a carpentry shop that also sold wagon houses for travellers, we discussed one particular wagon.

It was red in colour, with golden decorations alongside its seams. A big sign spelling 'HOME' could be seen on its eaves, also golden in colour. Meanwhile, as you'd expect of such a wagon, its inside was as gaudy as its outside.

"What about this one?" she asked.

"Hmm, the design is too gaudy, and the interior leaves much to be desired. Too extra in everything it does, I'd say."

"It's kinda hard choosing the one you'd want, huh?"

"I wanted the very best."

Spotting another wagon, Ciel pointed at it.

"What about that one?" she asked.

The wagon looked plain, yet tasteful. It was designed to be sleek and modern. However, because of such a design, the durability of its materials seems a bit lacking.

"It looks good, and the interior simple. However, when I walked inside it, I could feel the floorboards creaking under me."

"Not good, huh?"

"Yep."

"Onwards to the next wagon, then."

Except, we found nothing that I'd call home. Either the designs were too gaudy, or the materials were too subpar, or my choosy self was the problem in the first place.

"Should we make one ourselves?" I asked.

"Do you know how?"

"I've seen them make it, and by cross-referencing it with the ones available for sale, I should be able to make it."

"Can, you know, make it bigger than what it seems from the outside?"

"I could; that's why making it ourselves seemed an even better idea than ever before."

Thus, it was decided that we would create a wagon house ourselves in the forest north of Rivellon.
