Caroline is abducted by vampires and with incredible luck manages to kill one of the them in the process. Good thing she's clever, otherwise it could be tricky to cope with the upcoming court trial, new friends, enemies, affairs, fight for human rights and unwanted feelings for an immortal. In all the confusion, she is too late to notice the deadly darkness coming from an unexpected direction. --- To avoid disappointment ...., my vampires don't glitter. But neither are they mystical monsters (à la Bram Stoker). The scientific explanation is perhaps a bit detailed, ... but I hope there are some nerds here who can relate. How do the mutations (transmitted by a virus) affect them physically and psychologically? What are the effects on people when they do not age, when they are dependent on blood, when they have to live their lives in darkness, when they have to deal with centuries-old traumas? What could a society, politics, coexistence created by such beings look like? And how can we humans survive in it? --- This is my first try as an 'author', so I'm grateful for any constructive feedback, correction, detection of plotholes or just your thoughts...
