Chapter 13- Can I get a break?

Chapter 13- Can I get a break?

As the sun came Up I could hear the Fluffy Squawks crow out in the distance for the start of a new day. I rouse myself and look over at Cas. She was sound asleep so I leaned over and gave her a light kiss on the the cheek. Her eyes fluttered open and when she saw me a large smile lit up her face.

    “Good morning gorgeous.” I whispered.

“Morning my king.” She said in a sultry voice.

“Are you ready to finish the foundations of our castle?” I asked her.

“Yea but I think we need more people for work.” She replied.

“Hmm. You’re right. With more people it will get done a lot faster and I would be able to focus on bringing my level up. After all I am going to be a king that leads not just orders. Kinda have to be strong right?” I chuckle.

“Sure do.” She sighed and laid her head back down.

Taking that as my cue I get up and start making breakfast. The sound and smell of meat being cooked filled the shack and soon Cas was up and ready to eat. After a silent breakfast we get fully dressed and head outside. All around us people are coming out to start the day.

The farmers had already left to take care of the crops and the shepherds were taking care of the animals. The nymphs were all grouped together just outside of our little community. I realize that I need to get houses up for everyone as soon as I could. You never know when a storm will hit after all.

Delmira ran to me as soon as she saw me. “My king! My father would like to speak with you if you have time.”

“No problem Delmira. Show me the way.” I reply.

Cas stopped me before I left and gave me a deep kiss then she whispered into my ear. “That is a cutie right there. Treat her well and we might be able to have her join us. I could use some more company after all.”

I was stunned for a few seconds till I remembered how this universe works when it comes to relationships. Here, if you were strong, you would often find yourself with many wives and mistresses. This was simply because there were fewer men than women, by a lot.

Shaking my head at the forwardness of Cas I follow Delmira to her father. It didn’t take us long to find him as he was the one dividing the nymphs up based on their skill sets. Yesterday they were all helping cut the marble but today they needed to work on what they were good at.

As we approach he turns to us. “Good morning my king. My daughter has told me you are in need of good wood for the floors of your castle and well everything else.”

“Yea i really do. I need it to be strong and durable so that everyday use doesn’t wear it down.” I reply honestly.

“Well the wood my daughter told you about is a great choice. I have one request though.” He asked nervously.

    “Go ahead.”

“Can you make sure that only the nymphs do it? We have a way of growing the trees so that harvesting from them is easy and keeps the trees alive.” He wrings his hands slightly as he makes his request.

“Absolutely! If you have an efficient method then by all means do it and I promise that no one will interfere.” I replied quickly. “Quick question though. Would it be possible to have the trees planted throughout the kingdom so that nature is more incorporated?”

His face lights up at my suggestion. “That would be perfect my king! If you can draw us up a map we will get started right away. The druids and earth element focused mages can grow a tree in about five minutes.”

“Sounds great!” I reply. I then draw him a rough map of how the kingdom will be situated.

Kingdom will mainly be on the side away from the farms in a square grid like pattern. Roads will crisscross throughout everything to make accessing everything easy. The houses will be on the outer edges of the city while stores and all other businesses will be in the centre. Lucky for me he had some charcoal so I was able to make the design on a piece of hide I had.

All in all the city was huge. I had designed it to have over five thousand areas for houses and some of them were appartment like areas. In the centre I had about 10 square acres of space for people to put up stores and other various things like inns and brothels. I also needed to decide what to do with criminals, besides rapists of course. I could do a dungeon but then that would impose on the kingdom to care and feed them.

Hmmm. I guess I’ll decide that later. For now I will hire workers. I tell Gohda to show the plan to the workers that were going to cut the marble and have them start constructing the roads after the foundation for the castle is done. He nods in understanding and quickly heads out with his people and soon I am left alone as everyone starts working.

I pull up the menu to purchase workers and what I see is a list of a couple types of workers with some specialties at the top.

Welcome to the manpower store! Please chose the workers that you would like to buy.

Not cheap at all. Ok first thing's the workers. I purchas a thousand workers for twenty Gold. I don’t care about race so I just chose random. They appear in front of me like an old movie, the ones where the screen fades on. I can see that there is a multitude of different races.

There were half giants, orcs, beastmen and even a couple humans. I send them all over to the quarry to get orders from my people there. With that done I buy three generals. One for Warriors, one for Mages and one for rogues and scouts. I also chose random for the races on that as well.

A half giant half elf woman, a dark elf man and a gnome appear before me. I direct the half giant, who was call Gortha to be in charge of the warriors of the the army, the dark elf was in charge of the mages His name was Barth and the gnome was in charge of rogues and scouts he was called Swurth. They nodded and as one they kneeled and pledged their allegiance to me.

I told them to wait as I bought their troops. I then purchased  six captains but this time i chose their professions. I had one archer, one warrior, two mages, a rogue and a scout. I then assigned them to their generals. Next I bought three hundred grunts. Fifty for each captain and they also had the same classes as their captain.

After that I had them start patrolling the kingdom until we had everything built so my people were safe. Once they were gone I decided to buy the guild leaders. I know it was costly but I needed them so that my people would have someone to train and it would also give some sort of job to those who needed a way to earn cash.

An angry looking Dwarf showed up first. “Ah! Ye be tha king of this place huh? I be Duvar. I want ye ta know that I will work as hard as I can. I may be young but I be a master in many warrior skills. Also if it wouldn be too much trouble can I have me family join me?”

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

“Thank you Duvar and of course your family may come here. I look forward to having you in my kingdom. I will apologize for not having a guild hall built for you yet but it will happen soon. In fact you should probably go to the people that are digging the roads and foundation areas for buildings so you can design your guild hall.” I replied.

With a grunt of acknowledgment he headed off to find the workers. The Mage that showed up was a noble looking elf that seemed to have a haughty attitude. “Ah. You must be the king. Well first I thank you for having a mages guild in your kingdom. My name is Turan. We will benefit a lot from each other. I do have some family that I would like to bring if that is ok.”

I chuckled a little. “Of course you can Turan. Now we do not have a guild hall for you yet but if you follow the warrior guild master Duvar you can choose where your guild will be and how to design it.”

“Ah thank you my king.” He bowed and then was off.

Next was the rogue guild master. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see catlike beast man standing there decked out in black. “Hello my king. I am Pertah and I am the rogue guildmaster you ordered. I was listening to you and the mage. I have no family so no worries there. I assume you don’t have a guild hall for me yet so I will follow the others and design one myself. Good day my king.” I just nodded my head as he left.

Whew! At least that was over with. As I get ready to go and help the workers in building the roads one of the grunts ran up to me. ‘My king! Goblins are attacking!”

New Quest! A goblin tribe has appeared to take over your new kingdom for themselves! Fight them off or lose your kingdom!

Requirements. Kill all goblins (1,500)

Rewards. Fame and Exp

Wonderful. No breaks for me right. I sprint off in the direction that the grunt had come from. In ten minutes I arrived at a depressing scene. The goblins and my men were in a desperate fight for survival. About half of my troops were dead or dying and the goblins had only lost a couple hundred of their ranks.

I unsheathe my blades and activate burning body. The goblins all had about three thousand health. I inspected them and noticed that beside one that seemed to be the leader they were all the same.

Goblin tribesman Level-F

Goblin

Attack-F

Defense-G+

These were the the main horde but the leader was way stronger.

Goblin Chief Level-C

Giant Spider

Attack-C-

Defense-D-

The regular goblins would be easy but the chief was at ten thousand health. Either way I alone could probably handle this. I steeled myself as I jumped into the fray. I spun, stabbed and slashed at any goblin that came my way.

I left a trail of bodies as I made my way to the chief who was in combat with the warrior general. I arrived by her side just in time to block the swing of the axe that the chief had swung at her. She was being harassed by the other goblins so that was almost a fatal mistake.

I quickly shoved the axe away and buried my blades deep into his gut. As I ripped my blades out his intestines spilled along the ground. His blood was a sickly green that made the ground look like it was rotting. My general stared at me with disbelief in her eyes as I immediately started attacking the other goblins.

Soon all the goblins had been taken care of. My army was now a little less than half the size it was before. My generals came up to me and you could see the great respect in their eyes.

They all got down on one knee and apologized profusely for their failure. I did not consider it a failure but just an unlucky turn of fates. I told them to go out and hunt with the hunters to build their levels and stats. I could not have them stay so weak. Honestly it was my fault for not seeing if I could buy troops at a higher level.

They left to the forests and I checked the pop ups from the battle.

You have killed a Goblin Chief! Exp gained 50,000.

You have killed a Goblin tribesmen x 992! Exp gained 99,200.

Quest Completed! A goblin tribe has appeared to take over your new kingdom for themselves! You fought valiantly and decimated the horde!

You have leveled up!

I absent mindedly assign my stat points and head back to the workers. I had been busy for the better part of the day so once I got back I saw that all the roads were finished now. I was astounded at how fast everyone worked.

I realized suddenly that we would have no where to take a shit nor any running water for all of our other needs. I quickly sprint to the workers that were preparing the final schematics for the city. When I reached them I asked who was overseeing the construction. I was pointed to a man named Kurt.

He was a wolf type beast man with a very wiry build and had eyes that seemed to constantly be analyzing the area around him. “Kurt. I need to make some modifications. We need to have running water and a way to dispose of all our waste. What can we do to make sure this happens?”

“Do not worry my king. The mages guild leader has that under control. If you would like I can point you to him to put your mind at ease?” He said in a reassuring manner.

I nodded and he pointed me in the direction of the farms. I take my leave and head over to the farms to see what this mage had come up with and how easy it would be to access.

I find Turan next to a large stone storage tank that seemed to be growing out of the ground. I could tell that he was using an earth skill so I waited for him to finish. It took him about five more minutes to finish the stone storage tank. It was thirty feet across and at least a hundred feet high.

“Good work.” I said to him.

Turan turned back to me and just nodded his head in thanks.

“So the Kurt told me that you have a plan for running water and waste disposal?” I asked.

“Ah! Yes my king. I am sorry that I didn’t let you know but a part of my skills list is rune knowledge. With these we can create water and transport the waste to this storage tank. The tank will also have a rune that can fully destroy any and all waste that appears in it once it reaches a certain amount, which will be half full.” He explained.

“Sounds interesting. How are we going to power these runes?” I needed to know what this was going to cost me.

“Think nothing of it. I also have a rune that links up with other runes as a power source that draws in the ambient mana that is constantly being created.” He seemed to be really happy to talk about runes. He was practically giddy with excitement.

“Can you also make runes that cool and heat up the water and how do you activate them?” Can’t have a cold bath after all. Actually now that I think about it I stink like hell! Ok baths are a must have at the moment.

“Oh we will just have to touche the rune that signifies hot or cold. Really simple. Now that I think about it though ai should probably have pressure plates installed. Most people have no idea about runes after all.” He was thinking now with his hand on his chin. “My king. Can we set up the bath areas tomorrow so that can all be worked out before it becomes too difficult? I would like to incorporate the runes to heat the houses and cool the houses when needed. There will more than likely be those that need a different type of climate for their homes.”

“Yes please do. I am sorry for troubling you.” I reply.

“No trouble at all my king. Now if you'll excuse me.” With that he turned and went to the storage tank to make his runes.

I head back to the city area and tell Kurt the plan. He nodded in understanding and went back to laying the foundation with his workers. They were now working on laying the foundations for all the buildings and were moving at a breakneck speed. They had a train like system where carts were constantly coming and going from site to site, filled to the brim with marble slabs.

All the marble slabs were the one foot by one foot squares. The amount of marbel moved was easily a couple thousand tons so far. I wanted to see how big the quarry had gotten so I headed over there.

What I saw shocked the hell out of me. The marble that we had initially found had been cleared and now they were simultaneously unearthing and cutting it. The weirdest part was that the marble was growing back! I saw the one that had found the marble in the first place and asked him what was going on.

“Ah yes. Well you know how everything has mana in it right? Ok well marble is a special type of stone that regrows as long as a part of it is still buried in the ground. Don’t worry about the foundation though! That will not grown back since it was displaced from the original node of marble.” He told me.

I couldn’t quite wrap my head around it but then I decided it didn’t really matter. As long as we had building material I was happy. He also told me that after today he would no longer dig up any more marble as the marble would grow back fast enough that they wouldn’t need to.

I thanked him and left to help some more in laying down the slabs for the buildings. We finished the last building, which happened to be the brothel, and then we called it a day. The sun was setting fast and all of my people that I now had in my kingdom were heading back to the shacks we had made.

I had my guards work up a shift schedule to maintain readiness and make sure we were safe. They decided on having two shifts where half of them would be up and patrolling and the other half were sleeping through the night. I bid them goodnight and went home to Cas and Fluffy.

Fluffy was happy to see me but I could tell that he was tired of staying in the house all day. Honestly I never took him with me because I didn’t want him to die from some accident. I would need to change that so I could level him up in the future.

Cas was cooking dinner which was fuzzy mookin steaks. I have to say that it sure is nice

to come home to a gorgeous woman cooking you some food. I unfurl my wings and wrap them around her while she was cooking and tell her about my day and what I had planned.

She practically melted into my embrace and barely paid attention to what I was saying. Well at least until I mentioned baths. “I need a bath soon!” She cried out. I completely agreed with her and then finished off my story of the goblin attack.

After that we ate dinner and went to bed. Tomorrow I would fly overhead and inspect the layout from above and decide how the walls would be set up. By the Gods I need a rest. I had been going non stop all day long. Speaking of the Gods, I need to think of a temple as well.

I think I’ll set one up that has no specific God but allows all people to worship whoever they want to. Another thing for tomorrow. I sigh slightly as I kiss Cas on the forehead and drift off to sleep.
