Chapter 01 - Watching from the Shadows and a cup of coffee

New universe, new stories, and James, (full name James Seeker), was ready to collect every story that he could. He loved traveling to new places, seeing new people, and watching their stories unfold.

The previous universe had been fun, with thousands of smaller stories spread around just one city, a city that had multiple exceptional people but even those who were normal could live powerful stories for him to collect.

However, he had been just one of many and ultimately he found that universe to be boring. Eventually, all stories were similar and the checks and balances were so strong that society could not change so they were recalled.

Now in this new universe, he was the first and he's been keeping an eye open for the rise and fall of heroes and villains, always on the lookout for those with exceptional stories to add to the book.

This universe was a small side universe so he was the only one collecting these stories and, to be honest, so far the universe was just a snooze fest.

James followed a group of mutants around, but they were mostly just picking up strays. While many of them seemed to have good potential for stories in the future, most were too young and only a baldy, a guy with claws and, curiously, a young girl were the only ones that had previous stories that he would collect.

Then he stumbled upon a sciency guy who was trying to create a super serum and had an accident.

Get this, the dude gets flooded with radiation to the point that he should be a big bag of walking cancer but instead, he changed. Dude gets ripped, strong, and big and then starts to break things angrily, only for some military guys to come looking for a fight and he just flees and hides. He has potential for a great story but he just left.

He scoured the world for more, he knew that the main version of this universe had tons of heroes and villains but he saw little of interest except this coffee thing, which was just plain delicious.

The second thing that was incredible was internet and libraries, sure it was something common to several universes having a way to freely share information... how he hated the Lin-nadel, smells are not a good way to store information and how they read... never mind, moving on.

Although he could go almost everywhere in the world, drink coffee, read a book, browse the internet or watch people do things while also collecting minor stories was good but James still longed for something more.

Watching TV James found a Diva. He was an intriguing, brilliant, funny, intelligent, extremely self-centered man, who owned a company that made and sold weapons. He had the potential for a fascinating story in the future, but he spent most of his time pursuing cheap thrills. Women, booze, adrenaline, if he survives until the right moment he will have a wonderful story to collect.

Unfortunately, the man left the country and almost died and then got kidnapped, which cause James to lament, that story may die before being born. It is unknown if karma or coincidence but he almost died to a weapon he designed, manufactured, and sold through his company.

In a small island country called the United Kingdom, he found 2 individuals that never aged. He had first encountered them almost 3 years ago, and they looked exactly the same as they did then. The youngest used a type of magic that could create illusions while the oldest barely looked a day over 25. To be honest, watching them day in and day out was about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Things started to change when the kidnapped guy made a daring escape. James watched as he planned, prepared, and executed his escape, with explosions, blood, sacrifice, and finally, freedom.

He, like Icarus, flew quite high and although he didn't stick to the landing, he survived and returned to the world. Like all good stories there had to be some reasons that would help him to develop more in the future. He seemed to be mourning a loss but also felt betrayed. That feeling would eventually turn into a story with some vengeance.

James could feel that the world started to change and he could feel how many stories had started to stir.

Finally, this universe was looking to be interesting in the future.

James kept following Tony, the guy who escaped. He was a fascinating character to watch.

His imprisonment had changed him, he was still kind of a jerk, but the shock therapy had worked. He stopped making weapons and tried to look at how the things he made were used against him.

His first months were slow, he was making something, a very early prototype for an exo-suit, not too interesting until it worked and then he started his path.

Anger and vengeance drove him forward, two useful friends to have, however, he didn't forget about helping when he could and so he saved some people, made right a few wrongs, and even fought his supposed friend who stabbed him in the back.

Eventually, the first part of his story culminated in a brutal fight where he donned his suit, fought the man who betrayed him and saved his girl.

Prime material for a story, but James regretted missing the opportunity to capture the betrayer's dark stories. While not looking to have a nice story in his past it could surely be used to improve others but oh well.

Over the years, the green guy got into a few small problems, breaking a few buildings and injuring a few people. However, watching him wreck a narc camp was incredibly fun, and James was always curious about why the guy broke his clothing but never his pants. Magic, super-stretching fabric, or a mini-friend that doesn't grow - that's James' theory on how the Hulk's pants stay intact.

Anyways except for the few times, he blew a gasket, he was just boring to watch, afraid of even his own shadow, always trying to keep himself in control so he wouldn't turn green.

James kept an eye on the group of mutant teens who trained under the guidance of a baldy guy called Charles at his school. They were a mix of different abilities, some more impressive than others. Cyclops, the one with laser eyes, always kept his shades on to avoid accidentally blasting someone again. Jean Grey had some kind of psychic power that James didn't quite understand but seemed to be pretty powerful. They spent most of their time studying and training, occasionally saving a cat stuck in a tree or stopping a petty crime. It wasn't exactly the most thrilling superhero action, but at least it kept them out of trouble. The wheelchair-bound leader Charles seemed more interested in making the world a better place than in kicking butt, but James doubted that would happen.

He also watched a small fight they had with a guy dressed all in red, another mutant by the name of Magneto.

He was intrigued by Magneto, a fascinating character who carried the weight of history and had a powerful story to tell and James would collect it at some point.

As he watched the small-scale heroics play out, James couldn't help but feel bored. While the self-discovery trips and origin stories of heroes were nice, he was waiting for something more epic and world-shattering, not just a few teens stopping petty crimes.

And then it happened, what a wild week!

In just one week three big events happened together.

First let's talk about Tony.

Tony Stark, knew he was dying of poisoning, and confronted again with his mortality started moving quite a bit.

At first he started trying to take a better care of himself, practice boxing, got his ass kicked by gorgeous woman called Natalie Rushman who had been hired by Pepper Pots.

Later he took over one of his drivers in a car race and had to fight against a man who copied his tech. Sort of his Iron Man suit but without flying and with electrical whips.

Anyways, after he won the fight he started to spiral down harder to the point that he organized a party and got wrecked when his best friend "Roddy", James Rhoades, took one of his suits and kicked his ass.

The next morning he was nursing his ass and hangover eating donuts when the super spy organization SHIELD got in touch again through its leader, a BAMF called Nick Fury. Then he found that the new hot secretary was actually a super spy from SHIELD sent to keep an eye in him.

Super spy actually managed not only to give a temporary solution to his poisoning issue and even told him that his father, Howard Stark, had though to create a new theoretical element.

At this point James had to call bullshit, how in the hell a man that died over 20 years ago managed to discover an element that could an element that could be used to generate energy?

Not only that, how does Fury know that it could resolve the issue Tony was facing?

Anyways, Tony ends up finding a clue hidden in an old model for the Stark Expo and no one realized. Tony finds out, creates the model of the theoretical model of the element, then rewires his entire house to synthesize it. Maybe he broke his house a bit during the entire thing but hey he managed to create a new stable element for the core.

Either this Howard Stark was an incredible genius, or there was something wrong here, Wikipedia seemed to agree with the genius thing though.

So, Tony managed to create this new element, already has a core ready to use it and then he gets called by the previous villain with the whips, normal villain thing, so Tony suits up with the new toy and goes to take ass and kick names... maybe the other way around.

Long story short the situation was resolved with lots of violence, explosions, an epic team-fight with his best friend against the villain, and then saved his girl again. So romantic, he reaching just in time to grab her, fly into the air as explosion light up the night, then stopping in a roof, talking nonsense and finally kissing.

James didn't know if to be happy or yell at Tony for being an idiot and not doing it sooner.

This time, James did catch the bad guy and stored him in the book, tricking people dying was easy, they would see this flashback thinking that they are dying and he is just allowing him to copy his entire life.

Ivan's backstory was quite dull, he was a physicist with a relatively normal criminal life. However, at some point, he suddenly changed and became a formidable villain. It was strange, sure, Ivan hated all Starks due to a feud between his father, Anton, and Howard Stark and he realized this only when his father died and yet... Why do what he did in such a way?

Well people do stupid things from time to time, anyway the week was not over and there were many things to add to the book.

The second event was mean and green.

The Hulk, well technically Bruce Banner when he was small and human, had been lying low for several months now and moving from place to place.

The army found out that he was working in Brazil and tried to capture him which obviously ended up badly, for the army. Bruce got into a brawl against the US army in Brazil and even kicked a guy through a favela leaving the poor guy quite broken.

Now James didn't get why Bruce traveled to the US but he did. Next time James saw Bruce was with an old lover of his, a woman by the name of Betty Ross, where he got into another kickass fight. Curiously, favela guy was back in action, and stronger than before. As before, the fight ended with the Hulk running away from the army and the favela guy getting punted somewhere.

At this point, James found the why Bruce was there. It turns out that there could be a solution to his green problem so he went back to the city and needed to do just a short trip and do it in a perfectly safe and calm way, like taking a cab for example... yeah like New York cabbies and calm and safe. I'm from another universe and still have seen the error there.

Anyways, Bruce and Betty got into a cab to reach their final destination and not unlike the movie they almost saw death several times.

Bruce and Betty meet this guy Stern, if you look in the dictionary at mentally unstable, and mad doctor you could find a picture of the guy but like most of those mad doctors they tend to know something about their choice so he ends up helping Bruce become human for the rest of his life. Technically he should never be able to turn back again however no one could really tell.

So, Bruce has no big guy to help him at the worst possible time. The army comes knocking and dear old dad gets Betty and captures Bruce to make him into a lab rat.

Enter now favela guy, real name Emil something. He goes to the mad doctor and wants to be turned into a Hulk, which the doctor does, maybe under a little bit of pressure. In the middle there is a small problem and the mad doctor actually also gets a small dosage of super power juice in his head.

Anyways, Emil turns into an abomination... yeah that is the name Abomination, so Abomination starts to wreck Harlem. Seeing this Bruce has to make a choice, jump heroically, become Hulk again if he can, and win the day or maybe jump and die. He does, he jumps and well, hits the floor more than a wimp a splat.

It is unknown if the pain, the broken bones, the lover or what but Hulk manages to wake up finally and then the super fight began.

Anyways, while James was watching all of this from a lovely little shadowy spot Natasha, the hot spy that spied on Tony came running through the roof seemingly drawn to the action.

Dunno if she has a great sense or what but she used the same roof as James to watch the whole fight.

Hadn't noticed before, besides the beautiful appearance she also had quite the story from his past and a potential story in the future. He would have to keep his eye on her.

The Hulk and Abomination, what an appropriate name for the fugly thing, engaged in a destructive battle that leveled a part of the city.

Hold on to your hats, folks, because this battle had it all: "lots of action" and a "prime time for a story" – who says originality is dead?

Anyways, James was always a sucker for good endings and it is kinda hard to enjoy the ending when you are skidding the wet messes of mangled bodies which is why he started saving some people.

Nothing overt, nothing noticeable, just slight nudges that managed to keep a few more people alive. Let's be honest, some deaths do make a hero look better but no one wants to see dead babies nor the result of a 2 ton truck hitting them.

Anyways, The Hulk eventually emerged victorious and escaped, and SHIELD, by some reason, seemed to help him escape.

Finally, the third event was the best, only because James loves stories involving gods.

Ah. The gods, they always make for a good story. Sure, we have rich assholes and mutants running around, but gods getting kicked out of their homes and having to come to terms with their humanity? That's the good stuff.

Get this, the god gets thrown into our planet without any powers, and the first thing that he encounters is a speeding van that hits him. Classic.

Then he gets up, tries to ask some questions, and gets tasered, talk about a rough start.

Now obviously the group that hit him was feeling awful so they drop him at a hospital and leave.

But things start to pick up when he wakes up and decides that he needs to reclaim his power to reclaim his freedom. So he makes a break for it, only to AGAIN GET HIT BY THE SAME VAN AS BEFORE. You can't make this stuff up.

Anyway, his tale does become heroic. He discovers why he was failing, he was proud and cocky with too much self-confidence and little to back himself up, honestly quite common in gods, they are basically walking egos. But he changes most heroically - he develops feelings for the girl that hit him with the van twice, (Stockholm Syndrome anyone?), to the point that eventually he puts himself at risk for her and others, which makes him worthy of reclaiming his power.

With his powers reclaimed and his friends by his side (guys that came from this weird-looking light portal) they fight this massive robot and win.

With his victory under his belt he apologizes to the woman he likes, Jane Foster, he is a god, has godly things to do, yadda yadda.

So, he promises to come back for her and leaves behind a demolished town and a broken giant robot that is quickly taken by the super spy team.

Now, this spy group seems to be quite large and one of the agents was also following Stark.

Also another agent James found strange. Obviously, it was a spy agent but this guy was running in blue and black garb with a bow and arrow.

Is the super spy club running out of funds? Still, this guy seemed like he would be part of an incredible story in the future.

----ooOOoo----

James sat in the coffee shop, eyes scanning the room for interesting stories. His gaze settled on a figure entering the shop – Steve Rogers, the famous Captain America. He watched as Steve stumbled over the modern coffee shop setup before approaching the counter.

Annie, the barista, greeted Steve with a warm smile and helped him order a coffee. James was amused by Steve's bewildered expression, clearly struggling to understand the new ways to drink coffee.

As Steve took a seat next to him, James couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. He had always been a fan of Captain America and was curious to see what the man was like in real life.

"So, what brings you here?" James asked, taking a sip of his coffee.

"Just needed to get out of the apartment. Sometimes the city can be a bit overwhelming," Steve replied.

James nodded in understanding. "I know what you mean. It can be hard to find a quiet place to just sit and think."

As they sat in comfortable silence, James noticed Megan entering the shop. She looked nervous, glancing around before making her way to the counter.

Annie greeted her with a smile, and James watched as Megan mustered up the courage to ask Annie out. Annie's face lit up, and James felt a sense of joy in witnessing such a beautiful moment.

He turned to Steve, who had been watching the scene unfold with interest. "It's always nice to see a happy ending, don't you think?"

Steve nodded, a small smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "It is. Makes me feel like there's still hope for us all."
