“I’m surprised your little friend didn’t get involved,” Amelia reached for the orb that hovered about as Dawn finally finished emptying the contents of her stomach into the pig trough near the tavern. The orb hissed at the woman before she could touch. “It seems to have a personality.”
“Only ever protected me once of its own accord.” Dawn spat a few times, hoping the flavour of bile would leave her mouth, extending her own hand the orb landed on it. “They barely tolerate their bonded human.”
“So why did it protect you the one time?” As the words started to leave Amelia’s lips, Dawn outright growled.
“Why’re you still here?”
“Touchy subject, I see. I’m still here because why not? I figure I might as well stick around you, until I make my way through the next gate, since you can’t kill me.”
Dawn finally got to her feet, groaning a bit as the world finally stopped spinning, stretching a bit before saying “Not going to try and bait more into your trap?”
“Again, I already have you, besides, I don’t see a point in killing more than I need?”
“What?”
“I know it’s a bit silly, but all the book says Ineed to let me move to the next area is four, you just had good timing.”

Dawn took the book from her bag, opening it, and thinking on Area Goals:
Required Kills - 1 of 4
“Well ain’t that a bitch.”
“Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of them.” Amelia smirked a bit, “I’m sure they’ll flock right to you, they did for me.”
Dawn actually laughed at that. “I’d call bullshit, but some assclown tried to off me when I first got here.” She looked to the orb, that chirped proudly “We reduced him to ash.”
Hours later, the two walked along the muddy road, which despite not a drop falling since Dawn arrived was as nasty as if there had just been a downpour. They eventually reach a small windmill, which from it emerges another pair of humans.
A large man holds a knife to a young woman’s throat, Dawn gestured to Amelia to stand back, taking a few steps forward.
The man grinned. “Stand down, bitch, or this pretty little thing bleeds out on the dirt.”
“That so?”
Dawn’s eyes tracked from the duo, to the orb. The woman started to beg and cry “Please! Please help me! I don’t want to die!”
Dawn clicked her tongue, “You know Amelia,” she spoke over her shoulder to her contracted travel partner “Buddy of mine had a problem like this once”
Amelia tilted her head, as Dawn continued “And… [HE NEVER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM TWICE]”
As the orbs' form changed into the chainsaw once more, the young woman tried to reach for the serrated blade behind her back, but only managed to unsheathe it before she was shredded in two. The man stumbled back and slid down the wall of the windmill, howling with pain as the contents of his stomach cavity spilled out. Dawn watched the pair's death throes and pleas with a predatory glee.
Amelia stepped forward, less interested in the gore. “You saw through that ruse easily.”
“Yup.” Dawn nodded. “Even if it wasn’t so damn obvious, I remembered something my handler said to me” She recounted Elathiel’s last warning.
“If it doesn’t look like me, but like you, that’s not all that you have in common. Every human here is a predator.”
There was a smirk from the professional “And yet you walked right into my trap.”
“I blame the fact you’re cute.”
