Civilian
Ah right, what was I doing?
Looking down at my monitor I stare fixedly at the calendar application but when I was trying to remember what I was doing last and why I had pulled the calendar program up left me only firing blanks.
“Miss" Eyes shooting up to the man at the counter my heart skips a beat. Unlike some Rom-Com it wasn't of some great looks but that fact I didn't even notice him there. Ever since I awakened my power to detect if people how people felt about me in middle school I could count on my hands how many times I have been caught off guard.
"You searching for today's appointments, I have a meeting with your manager for the new data analyst position.”
Was this guy a SWAY? It could explain how he got the drop on me if he doesn't have an appointment I am going to hit the silent alarm... ok, calendar I wonder why I have this up I wonder if there are any meetings today. Ah, that is an appointment scheduled for the day. I wonder when he going to get here his appointment was over an hour ago. looking back up I am caught off guard by the man leaning over the counter and staring at my computer screen.
“Sir stop that I am sorry I didn't notice you but this is a bank if you continue to be sorry for your wait. I didn't notice you. how may I help you.”
“Haha miss I am here for an appointment at 12:30 for the new position.”
“Ok, one second sir,’
Looking down at my monitor I notice the appointment application is already open but at the same time, it seems his appointment already passed.
“Lucky you this will go quickly. I already have the appointment open but you seem a bit late let me get my manager to see if you can still pen in.”
“Finally thank god.”
“Sir please don’t use that tone. It hasn't been that long but it looks like you are already an hour late for your interview if you cared for this job you would have gotten here on time. ”
Turning to the phone I picked it up. Setting down the phone I feel a sense of davj vu. Shrugging it off I turn towards my computer ready for the next guest.
“You were going to call your manager for my interview.”
“Sir, it's been a long day, please don’t order me around. I was doing something and will be with you in a moment... So you wanted me to call my manager to let her know you have an appointment. Let me just check if you are in the system.”
“My god it's getting worse.”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
“OH God!”
Was that gunshots?
“Oh come on!”
Looking up I see a man entering the bank wearing a balaclava and armed. I have always fantasized about what I would do in a robbery but this isn’t a fantasy and I need to calm down. Immediately I hit the hidden silent alarm button under my desk. Before raising my arms into the air. I don’t want them firing on me. Wait speaking of firing my eye scan to Phil next to the door whose mild super strength should have made a great security guard already thrown to the floor and disarmed.
“Everyone get down! This is a robbery. If no one acts like a hero, no one’s gonna get hurt,”
I could have almost sighed in relief if they hadn’t shot the armed guard. They likely aren't going to shoot anyone else only to feel a sick sense of loathing for thinking that I was happy Phil didn’t get shot only for my health and not for him. That was till the armed man started to approach my desk.
“Why do you even yell ‘This is a robbery’? As if the gun and balaclava didn’t give it away. Heck, why do I even say anything? It's not like you’re paying attention to me.”
Approaching me gun drawn THOUGHTS STALLING. My power blaring all the alarms in my head I stopped processing anything but the malicious so much so I was dissociated with the fact my brain bouncing around from criticizing the fact the gun was aiming at me and how it was bad gun safety and the comforting fact he has shot anyone means he likely won’t, or how the guy in his pajamas was winding up for a punch at the robber. Although these thoughts flowed through my head nothing felt real to me emotionally. What upset me the most was I was sobbing. I knew I was crying and ruining my makeup. I had a date after my shift with this nice guy I met online but now I would be held up by the cops and my makeup was ruined. I knew it would likely be fine but I just couldn’t control myself.
“Put the money in the bag! And there better not be any paint bombs or trackers. All I want is what's in the register, not your life. Do you understand,”
15 minutes later
“So Mis can you tell me what happened?”
“Well, officer when I think back on the earlier it was all a kind of a blur I remember the man holding a gun up to the register one second then the next the man was sprawled on the floor with his gun knocked from his hand I was so surprised I don’t know If I hit him or something threw something. The next thing I remember I came out from the register and had the keys to Phil's cuffs in hand I probably grabbed them off the robber and then I released Phil I couldn't even tell you I remember seeing the guy putting the cuffs on Phil in the first place.”

“Aaahhh fuck they make that look so much easier in the movies.”
Fanning my throbbing hand I searched the rob’s pockets for the keys to the robber’s cuffs
“Wait what was that.”
“It's nothing not worries just forget this everyone it will be over soon.”
Finding the keys I toss them to the gawking teller, the only one to see the robber unconscious on the floor.
“Why don’t you go unlock your officer friend.”
“Un hun sure.”
Getting up from her desk she looked confused till she looked down at her hands with the keys and went to unlock the officer.
While she was up I walked around her desk pulled up my appointment and filled out the the paperwork necessary for me to get hired. A part of me felt horrible for what was especially hacking their system while in the middle of a robbery and how they might arrest me but I just knew this would be the only way I would be hired as I was waiting over an hour trying to get
