Chapter 1

Four thin, square turrets that soar to twice the height of the surrounding walls enclosed the castle. Massive black stone walls of immense proportions linked these turrets. Symmetrically placed, wide windows are scattered and there across the walls, in what appears to be a random pattern. This forest stronghold offers a secure refuge with a gate, wooden doors, a bridge, and artillery. However, while it is not the only entry point, it may be best for success to conquer the castle.

A dense growth of trees that provide valuable timber for various purposes surrounded the castle gates. Despite being over a millennium old, the castle appears to be structurally sound and shows no signs of imminent collapse.

The Midnight Origin vampire clan calls Lakewell Fortress their home. It is situated between a small ocean to the north, vast forested hills to the south, expansive open plains to the east, and towering mountains to the west. The region is mostly barren and humid, leading to too few inhabitants. Despite the significant number of people living there, most reside in small villages.

A remarkable landscape of mountains, white sand, and frozen lakes.. Foreigners highly prize the country for the many treasures it has to offer, including stunning mountain vistas, pristine white sandy beaches, and frozen lakes.

The people are known for their hospitality towards foreigners and often greet them with food. They believe that visitors can contribute to the country’s prosperity, but they also caution about the vampires who reside in Lakewell Fortress.

Despite being warned about the vampires, some foreigners brush it off with a laugh while others give in to their curiosity and venture too close, never to be seen again.

Such disappearances have become a cautionary tale among the locals, who emphasize the importance of heeding the warnings. Nevertheless, there are still those who underestimate the danger and fall prey to their curiosity. Vampires of Lakewell Fortress are an enigmatic presence in the region. Despite the risks, the allure of the land and its people continue to draw adventurers and travelers from all corners of the globe.

To mitigate the dangers posed by the vampires, the locals have developed their ways of protecting themselves. Some carry garlic and holy water with them, while others have silver weapons at the ready. Despite their precautions, the threat of the vampires still looms large over the region.

Despite this, the people remain a welcoming and hospitable bunch, always eager to share their culture and traditions with visitors. They take pride in their land and work hard to preserve its beauty and richness. And while the vampires of Lakewell Fortress remain a mystery, they are a reminder of the many secrets that lie hidden in this enigmatic and alluring land.

Locals often advise travelers to approach the castle only during the daytime, when the sun is shining brightly. However, they also caution that the trees surrounding the castle could be a hiding place for vampires, and one must remain vigilant to avoid being attacked.

The vampires of Lakewell Fortress are cunning and dangerous predators, able to move with lightning speed and strike with deadly accuracy. They are said to possess supernatural abilities that make them invincible in combat. The locals take their presence very seriously and are careful to avoid any unnecessary risks.

Despite the dangers, the castle and its surrounding areas remain an attraction for many tourists and thrill-seekers. Some come to explore the ruins and learn about the history of the region, while the thrill of encountering the vampires draws others. Whatever the reason, the locals continue to warn travelers of the dangers that lurk in the shadows, hoping to prevent any further tragedies.

The innkeeper of the village of Osium, the closest settlement to the castle, relayed all of this information to two young men named Seain and his brother Niles.

The innkeeper and his wife both felt that something seemed off about the pair.

Seain had shiny, long blonde hair that was pulled back, revealing his skinny and menacing face. Although his eyes could be seen, their color remained indiscernible.

Niles had long brown hair that revealed his skinny and frowning face. His bloodshot eyes were set deeply within their sockets, observing everything. He spoke little and remained quiet, but his dark stubble graciously complimented his cheekbones.

After receiving their room key and being warned about the dangers of the castle, the brothers headed to their room.

After entering their room and setting down their bags, Seain let out a laugh.

“Can you believe the warnings they give people?” he said to his brother.

Niles rolled his eyes and replied, “They make it seem like a tourist trap, attraction, or some kind of haunted ghost story.”

The brothers were from Lakewell Fortress and belonged to the Midnight Origin vampire clan. Their leader, Killian, had grown curious about the increasing attempts of people trying to enter the castle, and the frequent visits to the area. Therefore, he sent the brothers to the nearby village of Osium to investigate the matter.
