Wuxing turned around and saw Dongmei walking out of the curtains with an irate face, her beautiful eyes glaring at him. Apparently, when she heard a noise coming from the outside, she had immediately hidden behind the curtains that was why he couldn't tell that she was already in the room.
Looking at her angry expression with her arms wrapped under her chest, Wuxing could not help but gulp. A smile quickly spread across his face, while at the same time, he subtly faced his body away from her and pulled in his belly, praying in his heart that she would not notice the guns hidden under his clothes.
"Dongmei!" he called out happily like he was genuinely pleased to see her. "So nice to have you back! How was your work?"
Glossing over her question and showing no remorse over his obvious infraction, he simply smiled as if nothing happened which made her frown deepen. Dongmei hated to be lied at, but what she hated more was being ignored.
She reached him in two steps, grabbed his chin in a rough manner, and called out fiercely, "Don't bullshit me. Where have you been?"
Her almond-colored eyes squinted as if she wanted to see through his lies even more clearly this time. Her soft hair was already untied, falling freely on her shoulders, signifying her seriousness.
Wuxing pulled her hand away from his face and looked into her eyes from up close, saying warmly, "You are really cute when you get angry."
However, she was having none of it. His attempt to seduce her had apparently failed as right after he said those entrancing words, he had to dodge her leg stomp. Otherwise, his foot would be crushed by her.
Wuxing knew exactly what she wanted to know, but he couldn't tell her the truth—he could not even fabricate a lie—or else she would definitely figure out something is wrong.
There was no way a prisoner could walk around freely in this high-security prison without getting spotted. With her intelligence, she would definitely investigate how such an impossibility came about. With her lie-detecting skills, he couldn't even fake a scenario as she would instantly know that he was lying.
"Fine then. If you don't want to tell me, I will just see the surveillance cameras footage," Dongmei said, sulking. She attempted to walk away but Wuxing quickly pulled her back by her hand and he didn't let go of it no matter how much she pulled.
'Damn, I will have to trust her, or else I'm busted,' Wuxing thought wryly, before taking a deep breath. 'There is definitely a camera watching the front door of the apartment. She would see that the guard didn't move this whole time.'
Wuxing no longer hesitated and decided to lay down his cards at hand. He sat her down on the edge of her bed and demanded softly, "Promise me that you won't tell anyone."
Unfortunately, Dongmei didn't allow him to hold the advantage in the conversation.
"I don't think you are in the situation where you can dictate the rules," she said coldly. "You either answer all of my questions or you go back to the mine. As simple as that."
The previously warm and caring Dongmei was gone, and she was replaced by a cold queen who treated him like she did everyone else. Knowing that he could lose a lot if he made a mistake, he decided to temporarily give up and play by her rules.

Wuxing raised his hands upwards in defeat. "Fine, I give up. I will answer all of your questions."
"Good." Dongmei nodded, but her eyes didn't lose their sharpness. "Start with the first one. Where have you been?"
She didn't like how Wuxing risked getting caught by going out when he could just stay here and let her clear his name on his stead. With her family's connections, it wouldn't take a month before he would be free again.
"I took a walk outside. I went to check the surveillance arrangements and potential escape routes within the prison," Wuxing replied honestly. Knowing she could detect lies, he could only operate on facts.
Dongmei's gaze loosened a bit after seeing that Wuxing finally started to talk.
"Where did you go? Did you visit the whole prison?"
"Yes." Wuxing nodded. "I now have the full view of where everything is located on this island."
"What was the exact route you took from the moment you left the apartment?" Dongmei followed up right away as if she already had all her questions planned out.
Hearing her, Wuxing cursed right away in his mind. 'Fuck… Now, I can't hide it from her… She is too slick…'
He wanted to at least hide the guns from her, but now it seemed impossible.
"Tell me," Dongmei ordered after seeing his hesitation. She wouldn't back away now, not when she finally hit the nail in the right spot.
"I… I climbed up onto the roof, went down the emergency stairs, sneaked out when the receptionist wasn't looking, looked around the staff building before going to the docks and came back—"
Wuxing explained his route vaguely, hoping that those facts would be enough for her. However, that only made Dongmei more suspicious. Wuxing wouldn't have hesitated if that was all it is.
"How did you pass all the guards and checkpoints?" Dongmei asked further, seeking for his secrets.
Wuxing casually shrugged, entered the kitchen and said after picking up an apple, "I pretended to be a guard. Not many of them know me yet," before giving it a juicy bite.
"But even with that, they wouldn't allow you to enter the staff building without authorization." Dongmei followed right after him and took away the apple from his hand, giving it a small bite as well. Curiously, she looked up at his face. "How did you get in?"
"I convinced the guard to let me inside, telling I lost the entry card. After that it was easy. My goal was to find the surveillance room and I found it after walking randomly for a bit." This time, Wuxing was no longer stingy with his replies, answering more than she asked because he knew she will ask for more. He was basically at her mercy right now and there was nothing he could do.
Just as Dongmei wanted to follow up with another question, Wuxing added, "I also found Long Qing and beat him up."
"What? Really?" Dongmei finally smiled for the first time since she started the interrogation. However, she quickly hid it, so that he wouldn't see.
"Yeah, he is still alive though. Maybe, he will visit the hospital later. You don't need to bother with him. I will take care of him later," Wuxing smiled, reassuring her before taking the apple away from her hand. He bit on the same spot she did before shamelessly giving it back to her.
"Mhmm…"
Dongmei nodded, as if to digest what he divulged, before asking the ultimate big question to sum everything up, "Is there anything you didn't tell me and you are intentionally hiding from me?"
With this question, if he was hiding anything from her, she would know.
Nodding his head, Wuxing pulled out the electric card from his pocket and gave it to her. "Yes, I also stole this card."
"Wow, you even got an access card. The more I listen to your feats, the more amazed I am." Dongmei looked at the card in wonder before giving it back to him with a smile. She wasn't mad at him for leaving the apartment, but she was peeved for him not telling her that he would. If he had asked, she would even give him her own access card. He just needed to say the word.
"Listen to me, next time you plan to leave, I want to know about it, you hear me?" Dongmei held onto Wuxing's cheeks and rubbed them with her thumbs. "If you leave without telling me, I will kick you out."
She acted like a doting girlfriend, but her words didn't match her actions.
Wuxing imitated her by gently rubbing her cheeks as well, leaning over close enough for their noses to almost touch.
"Alright," he whispered, followed with a teasing, "Is this the moment when we should kiss?"
