Chapter 3: A Tapestry Of Stars

Chapter 3: A Tapestry Of Stars

Placed within a satin black void that stretched from horizon to horizon, Kist gazed upon a tapestry of millions of restless stars arcing throughout the night sky.

However, there was one star that shined brighter than the rest, its light illuminating the infinite abyss.

Knowing what was to come, Kist dropped his gaze and watched on through raised arms via the water below.

The glare in the thin sheet of water beneath his feet shined brighter as the Star’s Reflection hurtled toward him. Ultimately colliding with the ground in a fiery display, displacing earth and water all the same.

Tightening his guard as the force of the impact nearly took him off his feet, Kist raised his eyes and set them on the Cosmic Horror.

Reaching out from the settled cloud of dust and mist with two giant clawed human-like hands that stabbed into the earth. As the disturbed water began to settle, the heat from its body turned all that came near to steam.

The Horror flung its silver Canine-like body out of the smoke and through the air as its brandished golden teeth stapled to its frame, its body swelling like a festering wound before letting out a deafening roar that flung boiling saliva into the air.

Staring in amazement at the Horror, Kist anchored himself before dropping his guard, and as the Horror closed in on him, he hissed through a gritting smile, “A chimera type, huh? Nothing new, but still there’s no time to waste. There’s no telling how long I’ll have before the real star catches up to its Reflection.”

Swelling with power, Kist flooded his body with as much cosmic energy as he could gather from the beginningless embrace of Mother Void.

The veins in his arms squirmed with anticipation as his blood began to flow with such burning excitement that his entire being felt as if it was close to exploding and fading into nothing.

However, in the brief instant before the Cosmic Horror’s clawed hands grabbed him, Kist fired off the built-up energy in an expression matching a supernova-like explosion.

Throwing the Horror back while simultaneously expanding a violet nebula that eclipsed the void above, granting him full use of his powers and a nearly limitless supply of cosmic energy that empowered not only his expression of power but also his body and its senses.

Not one to miss an opportunity to show off, Kist hung flowing curtains of light above the battlefield, further setting the stage.

At the same time, the Horror skated across the ground, using its claws as hooks to counter the force knocking it back.

But before it could come to a complete stop, Kist quickly dropped the hanging curtains with the dismissal of his hand.

The attack, descending to the ground at an immense speed, threatened to bisect the Horror multiple times over.

The force of the strike forced out a terrible scream of pain that left the Reflection thrashing as whatever bone-like structure it possessed ached and whined under the pressure.

Grinning as the Reflection continued its painful cry, Kist held up his fanned-out hands, raising the curtains as he changed the expression of his energy, “Good, now let’s amp things up.”

While crossing his arms, Kist reinforced his body before casting out a wide net of flowing ribbons that raced across the field, several of which flowed through the recovering Horror that snapped and tore at the light.

Not yet finished, Kist then interlaced his fingers, commanding several ribbons of light to encircle the Reflection, and once they set themselves against its limbs, neck, and stomach, Kist smiled confidently.

“Woah, too much to chew, huh?” questioned Kist.

Now locked onto his target, Kist rushed forward and caught the aggression of the Star’s Reflection, whose body began to swell with air before its mouth was forced open as a massive beam of kinetic energy shot forward.

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

The blast, racing just inches above the ground, moved so fast it took several moments before the water could catch up, dispersing in massive waves as the raw earth beneath was exposed, only for it to be avoided and used as a path for Kist as he morphed into a stream of colored light.

Racing around the beam forming his path, Kist closed the distance between himself and the Reflection, barely dodging several of the Horror’s quick attacks as it swung one hit after another and bit at the light carrying him.

Shifting and altering his path, Kist continued dodging each strike before shooting himself beneath the howling beast at blistering speeds by bouncing the light off the ground.

Which allowed him to slam his knee into its lower jaw with such power that the strike echoed out a sickening thud upon impact, sending fragments of sparking gold throughout the air as its teeth clashed.

Lurching towards the sky, the Reflection nearly tipped over from the force of the attack. However, before it fell, its eyes suddenly locked onto Kist, who was still suspended helplessly in the air, as it contorted its body to lash out a clawed hand in an attempt to shred him to pieces.

Thinking quickly, Kist clinched his fist, commanding the ribbons covering the Horror to tighten and redirect its attack underneath him, allowing him to use the Horror’s arm as a platform.

Using the situation to his advantage, Kist readied his fist as he ran the length of the makeshift bridge by generating a haze of shifting colors around it.

Then, in a show of arrogance, he leaped in the air, directly in front of the Horror’s open mouth before striking the beast, disintegrating half its face in a devastating but costly attack.

Feeling his body beginning to seize from the abuse of his power but relishing in the thrill of his accomplishment, Kist readied himself to let off another attack as the Horror was still reeling.

Meanwhile, the Reflection, whose remaining eye never left Kist, swung wildly with its clawed hand.

Noticing the sudden change in its movements, Kist raised his guard and braced himself for the attack.

Colliding into him, the palm of the Reflection enveloped the whole of his body, the force of which spiked him like a volleyball, sending him into a small crater and the water fleeing.

Bouncing against the shattered stone, Kist winced as pain shot through his body. However, the looming shadow of the Horror snapped him back to his senses in the knick of time, just as the golden teeth of the creature began to inclose onto him.

Despite his panic, Kist remained focused and grabbed hold of one of the many ribbons he’d previously laid, traveling along its path to escape the maw of the Horror. However, the Reflection managed to swat him out of his trail of light and send him arcing through the air.

Flipping through the air, Kist fought to stabilize himself before he landed, “Damnit, this thing’s strength is gonna be a problem if I plan to fight up close!”

Cursing as his feet met the ground, Kist skidded to a halt as the water surrounding him dispersed in small ripples.

“Fine, then,” Staring down at his distorted Reflection, Kist recollected himself before raising his gaze to the obstacle before him. “Whoever said I needed to fight up close anyway?”

Clawing and biting into its flesh, the Star’s Reflection began tearing into itself to remove the bindings weighing it down, only to freeze as it noticed Kist staring it down.

And, as if it understood, Kist would spare no expense in returning the favor for its last attack; the Horror raced toward him, desperately attempting to close the distance before Kist could let off his next strike.

Raising his hands before throwing them down to his side, Kist once again brought down the hanging curtains on the Horror.

The Horror’s head, slamming onto the ground below, smashed into the stone, forcing out a loud whimper as it fought against the curtains of light.

Once again, raising his hands, this time in a more dramatic display, Kist called upon a new expression of his powers. Gathering every bit of energy he could collect to the tip of his pointer finger, staining it bright purple, Kist prepared to fire off his attack.

Lifting the curtains as he began sketching the color of aurora into the air in front of him, Kist drew a straight line that extended at breakneck speeds into the Horror’s skull, this time piercing flesh and sawing through bone, leaving it whining and reeling from pain, unable to truly move due to the light above holding it down.

Brimming with confidence, Kist couldn’t help but grin. However, he soon realized neither could the Horror in front of him.

Violently shaking as it attempted to restrain itself from laughing, the Horror’s mouth began to contort into an endlessly malicious smile, and it began cackling. Its eyes set ablaze with malice.

Furrowing his brows as the Horror’s cackling turned to a hideous uproar, Kist’s confidence quickly turned to dread as he felt beads of sweat begin to roll down his cheek, “Why is it- Oh yeah, that’s right…I was late.”

Folding in its arms, the Horror reached for the top of its head only to realize its limited joints prevented it from doing so.

Though seemingly unfazed by the physical limitation, the Horror broke and dislocated its arms to grab hold of its skull.

Digging its claws into itself before rending its flesh exposing the porcline bone beneth, the Horror opened a massive wound that gushed golden blood allowing two curled onyx black horns attached to the head of a skinned goat to erupte forth.

Not yet having finished its transformation, the Star’s Reflection sprouted two new sets of arms to pry further open the flesh between the two skulls, revealing a secondary set of golden teeth.

Its pain-filled laughter grew louder, and the Horror’s gaze was affixed onto Kist as it expanded a bright red nebula, challenging his favor over mother void.

“Oh fuck,” Cursing as he watched on in fear, Kist felt his power become limited and prepared himself for what was to come. “Of course, It’s a damn specialist!”
