There was an accident in the mine, Caspian was the victim from the collapse and now is recovering in the ward. This is a dialogue between him and Old Man Oakes.
Old Man Oaks peered at Caspian through the dim light, his eyes reflecting years of untold stories. "You've been pondering the forbidden paths again, haven't you? It's written all over your tired face."
Caspian's gaze met the old man's, a mix of defiance and curiosity in his eyes. "I have. I can't help but wonder if there's more to this existence than what's been laid out for us. I have nothing but have a strong urge to acquire more.. I don't feel satisfied with just completing my share of mining day in and day out. I have regrets.. will I get better?"
With a sigh that seemed to carry the weight of ages, Old Man Oaks leaned forward. "The path you seek, lad, is fraught with shadows and illusions. It's not about the strength of your arm or the sharpness of your blade, but the build of your character. There's a certain... configuration, a sequence that has led to the liberation of souls from this accursed fate."
Caspian's interest perked up, he asked, "What build are you referring to, Old Man Oaks? And how does one attain it?"
Old Man Oaks chuckled, a sound as crackling and enigmatic as the fire beside them. "Ah, it's a tale lost to time, young Caspian. But within the labyrinth of my mind lies a fragment, a key of sorts. I've watched you, seen the potential that burns brighter in you than any flame. And so, I impart this knowledge to you."
[A sequence of mystical symbols that seem to dance before Caspian's eyes, embedding themselves into his very essence]
As confusion and awe mingled in Caspian's heart, Old Man Oaks stood, his figure casting long shadows. "When dawn breaks, this world will be but a distant memory. May the gods guide your journey."
"Old Man Oakes," Caspian started, his voice a mixture of hope and uncertainty, "I dream of things that I cannot remember and of adventures that span the annals of time, of trials that test more than mere resilience. Yet, they feel like they are not me but a different me?"
The old man's gaze was both stern and kind. "Patience, young one, is the foundation of strength. Time, however, is a relentless beast, caring not for those who stand idly by. The question isn't when you'll be ready, but what you'll do when the sands of time threaten to bury you."
As Old Man Oaks' words echoed in the still air, Caspian felt a strange force pull him into the depths of slumber.
System:
You have died..

Restarting..
Upon awakening, the world seemed the same but anew at the same time. A pulsating choice lay before him, as if conjured from the very essence of his being:
Class Select (Your choice will carve the path ahead)
Soldier (Uncommon)
Merchant (Uncommon)
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Farmer (Common)
Healer (Uncommon)
Classless (Common)
Locked Fates Insufficient Stats
Ranger (Rare)
Craftsman (Rare)
Mage (Rare)
Commando (Epic)
For Caspian, the choice was as clear as the first breath of dawn: Soldier.
I wish to use strength to catapult myself forward as an adventurer.
Class Chosen: Soldier Hidden Class Rarity: Uncommon --> Upgrade? Whisper Agent
Whisper Agent..? What is that..
hmm.. I accept if it's an upgrade since having more power than what I had will be useful.
Class Chosen: Soldier --> Whisper Agent Skills Unlocked: Calculating previous experiences... 5 Stat Points awarded. Choose 1 of three skills:
Basic Weapon Proficiency
Battle Tactics
Deception Techniques
Internal Compass
I used various tools in my life time so I'm not worried much about my ability to handle weapons with some practice.
Battle Tactics seems like it would be beneficial as a change of mind, to be able to deduct things that I couldn't before so it seems my willpower and intelligence stat would impact this skill. Deception Techniques seems like it will get me places I otherwise wouldn't be able to get. Internal Compass seems self-explanatory, a way to navigate the world. Let's go with this.
Skill 1/1 Internal Compass: *Passive* (Common)
A guiding hunch that gives the user a way forward when inaction plagues the mind.
Huh.. not what I thought it would be. Never-mind that let me check the system:
Class: Classless --> Soldier
Destiny: Locked --> Open
Skills: Mine, Harvest, Internal Compass
Stats:
STR: 5 --> 7
DEX: 4 --> 5
WIS: 3 --> 4
LUK: 4
Choosing another class game me an instant upgrade to my stats.. if only I had a class while I was a miner. I'll wait to add the 5 SP. I worked so hard in my life to get where I'm at, I want to be fully prepared to commit them when I've done enough research on where I am.
As Caspian stepped out of the ward, the weight of Old Man Oaks' words and the mysterious symbols that had danced before his eyes settled deep within his consciousness. The transformation into a Whisper Agent was not just a change of title but an awakening of latent potential, a call to a destiny that had long awaited him in the shadows of this new world.
The streets of the city, alive with the hustle and bustle of daily life, seemed to Caspian as a stage upon which the drama of countless lives unfolded. The people around him, each engrossed in their own stories, were unaware of what had happened to him.
