It was a week before my father came back, and I was already settled into my new routine, going to the smithy and helping, then having lunch and studying, after that I would come back home for the rest of my schedule.
I woke up very early and went down and I saw a small breakfast prepared for like 8 people, if you think this is not small our normal breakfast is for 20+ people on a small day, sometimes I think I live with a garrison instead of a family, but at the end of the day this is the normal for this world, one of the farmers, a very talented one, has more than 25 kids out of his 4 wives, I can only imagine his breakfasts.
- Carter today you start your training, you will follow Nestor but before we start you will use weighted cuffs – says my dad while he eats the bread – from now on while you do the training you will have those cuffs with you.
- Won’t I have to use the cuffs all the time? – I ask thinking of the crazy anime trainings of my previous life.
- No, if you leave them all the time you may end up with health issues, you are still growing, so for now only for training and once training finishes you will take them off, once you are older you may think about keeping them on all the time.
- Why does he needs the weighted cuffs? – Ask my brother Nestor
- Because he has decided to use a greatsword, so he will need more strength in his arms. – answers my dad.

At this point Dad herds us towards the training field, and well the next 3 hours are grueling, Nestor and myself being the 2 youngest we are doing physical training, mostly running laps and jumping jacks, and other exercises to train muscles and stamina, but for my older brothers, the training is a lot harder since they have to do a lot more because of all the training for their weapons, Albert goes towards the side and start shooting arrows, and it is funny since a pixie is there helping him, the pixie keeps casting different balls of magic and I feel they are just like a lamp, just a bright ball of light magic to serve as a target and one that moves, to make it harder.
I cannot keep up with Nestor he does a lot more than me, but I keep trying, Nestor looks at me funny but he does not comment, at one point dad comes towards us and he sits down and start talking to us while we do squats.
- You both are doing fine, do not worry that Nestor is doing more than you Carter, he has an entire year of training ahead of you, do you understand why we are doing this Carter? Or do you want me to explain? – Our father ask.
- I imagine that we need to be stronger to wield the weapons. – I answer
- Not only stronger you also need plenty of stamina and you need to grow up a bit more, the point is that while this is your swordsmanship training we always start with building up your body. – He says.
After this he looks at me and seeing that I understood his point, he leaves us to our training.
We finally finish the training and we go back to the house and I’m hungry, but I’m also very tired.
- Dad should I skip going to the blacksmith? – I ask

- Okay I see you are confused, peaches have a very unique property they make your body recover faster, that way you can get more out of your rest, so almost everybody eats a peach with their meal if they have been doing some very intensive training and they still have to do more chores during the day. – he tells me
- Oh so that is why I have so much energy when I come back in the afternoon, I always eat a peach with lunch. – I say
- Yes and no – says my dad and then takes some air to explain a bit more – the peaches can help you recover faster but that is all they do, they do not give you extra energy that is you being energetic on your own, from now on you won’t only have a peach at lunch but also one at breakfast, by eating the peach you will be able to recover a bit faster, still you will be very tired and sore, so if you need some rest specially now when you are starting you come and tell me or your moms, ok carter?

After this I went for breakfast and I saw that everybody who had been training had a peach with their breakfast, this let me go afterwards to the smithy and continue my training there with the bellows, but today I could last barely an hour and a half.
- Lack of energy boy? – Ask Bart
- I had my first training for my swordsmanship this morning – I answer.
- Oh I see then we will leave it till here, let me call another apprentice so that I can finish this piece then you will turn off the forge and we will go for lunch – He says and then I see him go towards the front grab a chair bring it back and pull me into it.
I was very tired after this and well this was just the beginning, the months passed and I step by step started to build muscle, it took a lot of time and effort but I was advancing.
My seventh birthday came and went and I continued my training and studies, until one day I finally had a breakthrough, my enchantment research needed some auxiliary words to make the magic circles of the runic language work like I wanted them to, now that they were working how I wanted, I was ready to start my first big project in this world, I asked my dad for an appointment officially and asked for my second mom to be there.
- Well Carter, why did you ask for this meeting? – ask my father.
At this point, it is only my dad, my second mom and myself in his office, I have brought several parchments and some canvases with pictures of what I designed so that I can show them with images what I want and how is it going to work.
- Well dad I want to add to the city a sewer system. – I say – and please hear out my entire presentation before you comment.
They look at me and then my second mom goes and sits and prepare to see what I have prepared, my dad also relax on his seat and prepares to see what I have done, both of them know that they have told me before that the sewer system was not feasible because of contamination and that we needed to use everything around us to keep us going, so now they want to see how I was going to solve this issue for my dream project.
- Dad, mom, every day a lot of healers has to spend quite a hefty amount of magical healing curing children and adults that have a problem that can be prevented, sadly human waste does cause sickness, and a lot of healers end up wasting a lot of mana making sure this people are healthy, I think that if we could prevent this, it would be a great way of making sure that we would have more healers with more mana available for all the soldiers and wounded that come from the front, and also help reduce the amount of deaths that we have when the healers and the mana are insufficient. – I say starting my presentation.
- You told me before that contamination was a big issue, and I have been able to create with magic something that we had in my previous world, a sewer treatment plant. – At this point I show my first canvas on how the facility would work, and the magic circles that we could use – I have been studying the runic language for the last 2 years and I was able to find that it works for enchanting specially complex spells if you know how to write them, I have used several spells, some for cleaning and others that come from Druids to be able to make this circles, finding the right words in runic language was not too difficult, but finding how to make them into a circle so they could work together and for the spell to have the effect I wanted, that was what took me the most time.
- We will create sewers made with clay pipes, this pipes can be done and maintained by earth mages, and we would not cause too much of a disruption on the city and we would not have to excavate the entire city to install the pipes, the sewers would all come into this big building that will have all the treatment runes on them, and there would be 4 tanks, the first tank will receive everything, and it is a buffer tank, on the second tank we will also receive everything but the moment we close it we can do treatment on this tank – I say and then I put another canvas up showing more runes and more designs.
- The connection between the second tank and the third tank has a magic filter, everything that is solid will stay in the second tank, everything that is liquid will continue to the third tank, once the second tank has a certain amount of content – I say trying to not be specific – this circles will activate, one of them will close the connection with the first tank, the second will activate a druid spell to make everything that is in the tank into compost, and the third will teleport that compost away to an storage area prepared in another part of the building, where this compost can be distributed to the farmers, if there is too much compost we could start either exporting it, or fertilizing the forest, after the third circle is activated the circles will reset themselves and the tank will open itself again to the first tank to start filling again.
- The Third tank is a tank of pure liquids, and in this one I’m using an alchemical circle to divide everything that is coming through - I say and I show a tank that starts as one big tanks that goes into several small ones with a central pipe that continues towards the next tank - I know some alchemist do need ammonia and other compounds so all this is being filtered in this tank and again once each tank of the element is filled to a certain degree they will be teleported to an storage area for distribution, the teleports are short to keep the magic use to the absolute minimum , that’s why the storage area of each element is above ground on top of the tank, to keep the teleports below the ten meter distance.
- The last tank should only have water, and I have created a simple circle of cleanse to purify the water, before we let this water back into the river, there are circles to check for it, and a mage can check the facility and if they understand some enchanting with the runic language they may help check and verify that everything is working properly, each circle is carved in tablets that can be slotted together, and when we build the facility we can create 2 sets of tanks so that when one has to be shut down for maintenance the other can be used normally, also because the circles are carved in tablets we can create enough circles for 4 or 5 or more sets of tanks so that we have spares for repair and maintenance, by my calculations if we do this the tanks could run an entire year without any problems. – I say and prepare for the last part of my presentation.
- And last the cost, this will use some condensed mana, we can use some of the Mana Stones that are used in enchanting and the cost won’t be excessive, but we will have to expend some of it, because some of these enchantments will be running constantly, while others will activate and deactivate at intervals. – After I say this I pass my dad a paper with all my calculations of the cost of running the facility.
- This will allow us to have a sewer system that will help make the city better, help the healers, and finally allow us to make some indoor plumbing and actually bring the true innovation of the sewer system, The Toilet!!! – I say this while I open my last 3 canvases, and in one of them is a nicely done and perfectly decorated bathroom with a proper functioning toilet, man how I miss toilets, I’m sick and tired of the chamberpot.
My mom is absolutely enchanted by the picture of the bathroom, while my dad is looking at all the other pictures.
