Using Warp Gates is not as convenient as it seems. Not only are they expensive, you also get headaches as a bonus.
In the morning, arriving at the Royal Capital Rime, Axel Blaze's first destination was the public toilet. After puking his guts out he finally sat on a public bench, looking haggard.
After 30 minutes, Max arrived and carried his sorry ass.
Leaning on Max, Axel Blaze complained, "You should have told me that I will feel nauseating every time I use the Warp Gate."
"Hehe, sorry about that, I forgot it takes time to get adapted to the Warp. I also went through the same thing the first time."
"So you wanted me to experience the same, right?"
Max patted Axel Blaze's back hard, "Haha, you caught my intentions— You are really smart, brother Axel."
Axel Blaze gritted his teeth, "Fuck my smartness. Do this again and I will beat your smartass."
Just as the two were walking past a Specialty Store, suddenly Ruby called.
Master I sense a card.
Of course you sense a card, I am carrying the Card Binder.
Not that stupid Master, I mean a Card Case. It's in that store we just crossed.
Axel Blaze jumped with shock, "What!?"
Max also jumped, "What! Brother are you alright? Did I step on your foot? I am sorry."
"Ah no, my foot is alright. I just remembered something."
"Oh! Do you need my help?"
"No, it's nothing serious, I just forgot to buy something. Where are we meeting your friends again?"
"It's in the Feastival Restaurant, the most famous restaurant in the city."
"Good, I have the map of the city, you go ahead I will be there just after you."
"No worries brother, I can join you for shopping. We will go together."
"No."
Max frowned, "Why?"
Axel Blaze stuttered, "W-What do you mean why? No means no. The things I want tk buy are quite personal. It's not good for others to see."
He just made an excuse.
Max thought for some time then nodded, "Ok, but be quick."
At last the big man was gone.
Axel Blaze backtracked and went into the Speciality Store called The Heaven's Gate.
Axel Blaze raised his brows after reading the name and looking at the extravagant interior design. It's like all the magic lamps and crystal decors present in the capital were bought by this only one shop.
What a name. What a style. It feels like every worker inside must be the servant of god and the god himself is the owner of the shop.
With this thought, Axel Blaze entered the 60,000 square feet shop. The biggest shop in the capital.
The shop is crowded with customers, mainly adventurers shopping for equipment.
But to Axel Blaze's surprise, unlike the prodigal interior design of the shop, the staff looks quite dull, they are like followers of god who don't seek worldly desires. Some of them are even wearing cheap clothes which look second hand.
Fuck being the servant of gods, the staff is obviously underpaid. You can simply tell by comparing their attire to the shining pig sitting at the counter. That fatty, laden in jewelries is definitely the owner of the store.
A servant of god— I mean a store employee welcomed Axel Blaze and offered to show him around the shop.
After looking here and there, Axel Blaze finally arrived at the shelf where a Card Case with the white number 6 was displayed with a price tag of 600,000 amilots.
"So cheap?"
The employee was surprised, "Cheap?"
"You can buy a house with that price, isn't that cheap?"
The employee finally got the sarcasm, he couldn't help but escape a giggle, "Sir, you are quite humorous."
"Glad you liked the joke— By the way what is this item? Why is it so expensive?"
The employee switched to business mode, explaining the item.
"A card case which holds a one time use skill card. The rank of the card you get depends on your luck and the number printed on the card case. Here the card case has a number 6 written on it, so the best possible card you may get out of it is a Legendary Skill card. The worst would be a Common Skill card."
Axel Blaze looked amazed, "Only one time use? Then what happens to the card?"
"It disappears— That's why it is used more like a trump card. When you are out of MP or DP and are stuck in a difficult situation where any help will do, the skill card you get from this card case may save you life." "To be honest, this is more like a luxury item. Only rich people buy them."
"How many of these do you have?"
"Only this one. Though this item is not very useful, it is also quite rare. With great luck, you may find one somewhere out there. No matter what the place."
"No matter what the place? Even in the forest?"
"Yes."
"Even in the seas?"
The employee nodded, "Yes."
"Even in the toilet?"
The employee nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes."
The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.
Axel Blaze couldn't help but curse, "Fuck!"
The shop employee still nodded like an idiot, "Yes, yes."
Then he realized and panicked, "Yes?"
Axel Blaze rolled his eyes, "Well, I want to buy this, but the price is too high for me. Can something be done?"
The employee shook his head, "Sorry Sir, everything in the shop has a fixed price."
He patted the man's shoulder with a smile, "Don't be so stingy. Come on, help this little brother, will you?"
The man gave a helpless smile, he pointed at the store owner with his nose, "Look at that Orc King over there, if I help you, who will help me?"
Axel Blaze cannot say anything about that.
He sighed, "Take care brother, I will be back after I collect enough money."
The employee smiled and slightly bowed like a good employee sending the customer off, "Have a nice day, Sir."
Out of the store, Axel Blaze walked towards the Feastival Restaurant.
Axel Blaze cursed, Fuck you Ruby, why didn't you tell me about this? Dunno how many Card Cases I missed out there.
Ruby snorted, How would I know that the Master doesn't know about it? Also, we haven't come across any Card Cases since I came into existence. This is the first time.
Axel Blaze looked towards the sky, dejected, God knows how many cards are being wasted by other people out there.
He then gritted his teeth, I am the Card Collector, then why can other people use my cards? Where is the justice in this? They are just making me lose cards!
Ruby, we have to collect them all before more people make them disappear. Stay alert and let me know if you sense any card cases again. We will steal them if needed.
Ok Master!
...
"Aha, Welcome Master Axel, at last we meet."
A jubilant young man in his twenties welcomed Axel Blaze.
The young man is tall, fair and smart looking, wearing expensive clothes. The man is none other than Max's best friend, Brooke Sanches, the second son of the Viscount.
The Viscount of Vithal Kingdom is in charge of the finances, and hence is quite influential.
Axel Blaze recognized him just from his attitude and attire.
He smiled and shook his hand, "You are too polite, Lord Brooke, just Axel is fine— The way you call me makes me feel like a noble's son."
Brooke Sanches patted Axel Blaze's shoulder while laughing, "What do mean by 'feel like a noble's son'? You, my man, are a noble's son."
"Also, don't call me Lord, I am not the heir apparent. Just Master is fine."
Axel Blaze made a shocked face before breaking into laughter, "Master Brooke is quite a funny man. That was a nice joke."
But contrary to Axel Blaze's laughter, Brooke Sanches's expression turned serious.
He offered Axel Blaze a seat next to Max and he himself sat alone on the other side of the table.
"First I have to apologize to Master Axel." Brooke Sanches slightly bowed.
"Truth to be told, after hearing your name from Max, I did some background digging on you."
Axel Blaze made an unpleasant look but Brooke Sanches continued.
"Master Axel, is your father's name Sam Blaze?"
With a doubtful look, Axel Blaze agreed.
"You see, Sam Blaze was the name of the only Baron living in the Royal Capital 25 years ago. He was offered that title by the King himself due to his valiant deeds in the battle against the Elven Kingdom 30 years ago."
"The King was displeased when he found that Baron Sam was in love with a commoner woman— Later, to stay with the woman he loved, Baron Sam left the capital and vanished with his lover, never to be found."
"Today, that title is passed on to his younger brother Baron Karl, but it doesn't change the fact that Master Axel Blaze is the legitimate heir of the Barony."
...
It was like lightning had struck Axel Blaze. He never expected his father to have such a noble background and himself to have a noble bloodline.
Axel Blaze breathed out, "Master Sanches, do you have any proof?"
"Max, get us some drinks and food."
Despite there being waiters in the restaurant, Brooke Sanches sent Max to get the orders.
Max doesn't care about such things so he complied, leaving Axel Blaze and Brooke Sanches alone.
"Proof... You will get it tomorrow."
Brooke Sanches took out a piece of paper and handed it over to Axel Blaze.
"Come to this address tomorrow at the mentioned time. I have prepared a meeting with Baron Karl Blaze."
Axel Blaze frowned, "What is the reason for the meeting? Does he know who I am?"
Brooke Sanches looked at Max who was still busy at the counter then spoke in low sound.
"I already met with Baron Karl, but it seems he doesn't want anything to do with you. It is quite unfortunate but Brooke Sanches is a man who stands against injustice." Brooke Sanches patted his own chest.
"Don't worry Master Axel, after some family friendly conversation, I persuaded Baron Karl to share your part of inheritance with you— Tomorrow's meeting is about that."
Stand against injustice? Are you Captain Vithal or what? Do you think I am an idiot?
Axel Blaze gave a wry smile, "Thank you Master Brooke, I don't know how to thank you."
"Hehe, don't worry Master Axel, I was just helping the friend of my friend."
Max has arrived with the food and they have to cut their chat.
"What are you two talking about?"
Max asked enthusiastically while taking his seat.
Brooke Sanches smiled, "Nothing special. I was just amazed that Master Axel can use both magic skills and sword skills. His Card Collector Job seems quite unique."
"What do you say, Master Axel, will you join my party?— Ah, not as a porter but as a firepower."
Max yelped with excitement, "Are you serious?"
"Brother Axel, isn't this great? Please join us. We can always fight together."
Axel Blaze looked at the harmless smile of Brooke Sanches and cursed inwardly.
Don't say it if you don't mean it.
This guy is quite cunning. Max never noticed the irregularity in my Job but he did. Other Non-Combat Class Jobs can only use Job specific Common Skills, like a Tailor can only use skills related to thread and needle, but I can use any Common Rank skills from any Class or Jobs.
Axel Blaze returned a smile, "Let me think about it."
The three finished their meals and were about to leave. As they walked to the door, Brooke Sanches approached Axel Blaze and whispered, "Don't bring Max with you. Things may get dirty tomorrow."
Axel Blaze couldn't help but think if this bastard has ulterior motives.
He simply nodded and left for the inn.
Laying on the bed in the inn, Axel Blaze sighed, "Only if I could use every rank of skills and not only the Common Rank. Life would be so much better."
All the Uncommon Rank and above skills you have are from monsters. How about trying to get a skill related to humans?
Ruby's suggestion made Axel Blaze jump out of the bed.
"No humans have skills similar to monsters, I am the only one who has skill cards with monster's skills. I feel like an idiot to never think about this."
"But how to get a skill card related to humans?"
Umm... Maybe ask someone to continuously use their skills on you for a day? You may get their skill from the daily Card Case Drop.
Axel Blaze rubbed his chin, "For that, we have to look for someone with Uncommon and above rank skills and also someone who can cast it for a long time."
Axel Blaze thought for a long time but couldn't think of anyone. He sat back on the bed, disheartened.
"No matter who I think of, everyone will end up exhausting their mana within 30-60 minutes if they keep spamming their skills. I am not sure if that much exposure is enough for me to get a related skill card."
Only someone with Zero Grade Job using Uncommon Rank skill can keep up for a whole day. Do you know someone like that?
This reminded Axel Blaze of Luna, the Zero Grade Saintess and he slapped himself hard.
Ah! Master! Are you alright? Why are you slapping yourself?
"To get a bitch out of my head."
After that Axel Blaze picked up the Card Binder and went to the Public Bath.
...
Soaking to his shoulders in hot water, Axel Blaze closed his eyes, relaxing.
So Master is a noble huh?
Axel Blaze sighed, What's the use of being a noble when I cannot even live like a noble. There's no way they will accept me in their house. Neither as an heir nor as a servant. My very presence is a risk to them. It will be quite fortunate if I can leave the Capital alive.
But you are the legitimate heir. What if you talk to the King?
Ah, Ruby, you don't understand human nature. It would be more than enough to get some amilots from the Baron, we shouldn't hope for more. Let's leave the Capital after that. It's not like I want to join that guy's party anyways— I don't think I can get along with Brooke Sanches.
The day passed with one surprise after another...
