Detective Morse filled the Cannon Fodder 4Hire trio on his latest update as they were taking a litter ride back to company’s headquarters. He was, surprisingly, being candid about it. But 669 suspected it was to ensure a successful outcome. Sometimes, one just had to fall into trust in order to get it and learn things that wouldn’t be otherwise made known.
“Based on what I have learned within our Forensic team, someone set you up. There was enough evidence of this to have a dismissal order written, approved and released.”
“And they just quickly did one up like that?” 789 eyed the man with her doubts.
“Internal politics played in 669’s favor. Count yourself lucky.” Detective Morse smugly said to 669.
669 scoffed as he fanned his wry expression. “A squirrel doesn’t eat the nut it doesn’t see. Fine. Tell me something I don’t know.”
Morse continued to explain that the letter was indeed written by a woman, but it was later doctored to fabricate some of the details.
“Just some?”
He nodded. “Your name was added to the sentences that indicated your collusion with Fairy Blossom.”
669 frowned, concerned that the letter implication was more of a warning to them than to set him up as a fall-guy. This warning was hinting at their involvement on the case as being more than what they should be doing. And if they continued down the case investigation path, being locked up for false accessory to murder would be the least of their problems. He faced Detective Morse squarely when he soberly said, “Do I need to remind you that we were trained to be vanguard scouts for our Grand Demon Overlord not Royal Guards for the people?”

“Naturally, I understand where this case might be drawing a blur.”
777 heaved a sigh with a grunt and hiss and nodded. “669 is right. As much as I like getting a paycheck from the Royal Guard, we can’t afford to step over toes and lines here.”
“This case is becoming more out of our line of work. You want us to scout out an enemy resistance, be bodyguards, security detail, fix buildings, provide emergency aid, even rescuing lost Sherlock-lambs! Not a problem. Sheeze, we’re chasing after murder leads. That’s not what our Majestic Will demands!” 789 nervously blurted as she wrung her fingers.
A heavy silence fell upon the mood of everyone within the litter carriage. It was clear that various consequences were starting to take shape in the handling and involvement of the case. But could the Cannon Fodder 4Hire team really back out now? For 669, he felt a compulsion to be more involved post his memory leak situation. Yet, he was rightfully worried about breaking Majestic Will. An act no one in their sane mind would want to bring upon themselves.
There had been stories and rumors of many people trying to exist outside their fated roles only to be discovered by the Majestic Peace Order Acolytes and either removed from existence, lineage cursed or had their soul eradicated with memory traces of their timeline cast throughout the world to set an example. The only way to protect from the Majestic Will consequences was with Blood Gems held by affluent families like the Shiya House. But even Blood Gems, with their forbidden cosmic magic, couldn’t prevent or counter everything. The universe was too large for it.
So it was a golden rule to not tempt fate. But how many people would try to manipulate others in thinking they could or pushing them down a path that led them to no choice in order to eliminate competition.
“Is this happening to us?” 669 thought as he swallowed a nervous gulp.
“Let's just focus on heading back to headquarters for now.” 777 said to break the silence.
It was night when they arrived back to company’s stables.
