Chatter fills the white and neon hallway as a tour group of kids walk into the Federation history Museum located inside the Landox space station. Eyes filled with curiosity sweep across the hall that holds numerous memorabilia of the third war of expansion, Aktl artifacts, and strange weapons. But what garnered everyone’s attention was at the giant monstrosity suspended in the middle of the huge hall.
“ That, kids, is one of the famous living ships of the Aktl. This particular model we call ‘Stinger’ is one of their fighters that accompanied their capital ship in the Siege of Hymeran.” The tour guide said pointing towards the oblong-shaped mass of carapace and tentacles.
“Eww… Looks so gross.” Lilly whispered to her friend.
While Katy absentmindedly nodded to her friend’s reply her thoughts weren’t on how her teenage friend defined one of the most biologically advanced phenomena known to humankind but on how every holo display she looked at suddenly changed from federation news to some recruitment ad. Even the lobby and corridor halo strips were eerily silent. She didn’t have to guess what was happening and who was doing it.

“That's why he agreed to the study tour so suddenly.” Kate muttered to herself. Usually, it takes a lot of begging and a liberal use of her puppy dog eyes to get Kyle to agree her going anywhere out of Sol let alone to a frontier system. This sudden change of mind had come as a happy surprise for her but now thinking about trouble back in Sol studying Aktl biology lost all of its appeal.
“How dare he do this again? Does he still think I can’t take care of myself? Uhhh… I’m gonna kick his ass...” Kate wasn’t worried about her family even a bit. Obviously, they weren’t in any danger. What pissed her off was that she was gonna miss the action again because her family was so protective of their “little” girl. She’ll show him who’s little when they spar next.
Kate was fuming in her mind while barely giving attention to Lilly’s chattering. The tour guide kept droning on and on about the Federation’s martial prowess and their intra galactic victories on the frontiers when suddenly Kate felt the hairs on her neck stand up and with it, an extreme sense of danger came.
The very next moment she felt the entier station shudder. Panic started to spread in the hall as a deafening explosion and groaning and screeching of metal followed it.
