Jeff felt impatience flood his body. This time he wasn't sure if it was from himself or the Spore he now shared a body with.
Kazi responded to his statement. "I'm hardly a puppet master. Let me find you a good analogy, since you're so fond of those."
Jeff saw a flutter of screens open and close in front of his eyes. He could tell the Spore was purposefully opening them in his vision, rather than behind the scenes. He could feel within his own body how it was getting irritated.
After a few seconds Kazi chimed back in. "Ah, here's one. You are the computer and I am the WIFI connection. A computer can do a lot on its own, but without a connection it is severely limited. The same is true for the WIFI router, it provides a great service, but without a computer to connect, it's virtually useless.
"Sticking with that analogy, the Spore you connect with decides which Internet you connect with. You have connected with a Boschyan Spore, which, in my biased opinion, allows for the best Myst experience."
Jeff spoke up. "If this is a good Myst experience then what does a bad one look like?"
"You really need to tone down your inner Karen." Kazi retorted. "How was that? I'm not sure I'm using that in the right context."
"No, that was good." Jeff said feeling fully chastised. "Though, you should have asked if I wanted to see your manager too."
Jeff really needed to slow his roll. He came in here for answers and Kazi really was delivering. And if the Spore was being honest, then the Boschyan System had done far more for humanity than he had realized.
It didn't change that he really wanted to see his kids again. Or that he would have loved a warning before being inhabited by this thing. He decided he would ride this out a while longer and complain later. All things considered, this alien invasion could have turned out a lot worse.
"Oh, believe me, you do not want to meet my manager. Not yet anyway. Let's just say they are strong enough to teleport nearly 2 billion kids off your planet in an instant and leave it at that."
"Wait, my kids are off planet?!" Jeff hollered. He jumped up to his feet threateningly then realized he only had his reflection to face off against. Remembering his recent decision he tried to calm himself down.
This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.
Have I grown taller? He thought, distracting himself by doing a full 360 in the mirror.
"Yes to being taller and yes, your kids are off planet." Kazi said, a chuckle entered it's voice. "And so are you."
The spores notes screen that was covering most of his vision moved over to one small section on his right side. Then one of the walls started opening up. Light hit Jeff's eyes and he winced, then his jaw dropped. Before him stood a world that was completely foreign and magical.
The landscape was full of rich vegetation. There were green plants, but just as many or more were a light purple. Bright flowers stood out against the edge of the jungle.
The mountains in the distance were gigantic, like each one was the big brother of Mount Everest. He grew up in the Rockies and was used to seeing big mountains on the horizon. These mountains, despite seeming rather far away, were five times larger than anything he'd seen before.
Down below and to his left he could see what looked like an ocean. The water was blue in a way that water on Earth just wasn't. He could hear the clear calming sound of waves crashing. Expect something didn’t look right. There wasn't a sandy beach where his mind felt there should have been. Waves broke and flowed over a flat vegetated area. The plant life didn't seem to mind one bit. Rather, the vegitation thrived near the shore.
I guess plants are just built different here, he thought. Or maybe the water is?
A breeze rustled throught the green and purple leafed trees and he realized the Pillar had only opened up a window, not a door. That calmed his nerves a bit. Staring at this unruly world had him feeling like he was about to swim with sharks.
He saw movement on his right and noticed some changes being to the small screen. "Discuss Spore Suit" and "Fight Monster to the Death" jumped up to the top.
"You asked what a bad Myst experience looked like and I decided it would be easier to just show you. Come on, let's go kill a Monster!'
"Don't worry," Kazi said, after telling him they were about to fight a monster. "I won't let you face anything while being defenseless. Do you want to try some magic?"
Jeff felt a fire light in his gut at that. He never thought someone would be offering him magic. Especially not someone who could actually give it to him. Could the Boschyan Army actually give him magic? They had shown some pretty advance levels of technology, but it hadn’t really been anything strictly magical yet. Every piece of advanced technology seemed like magic to those who had never seen it before.
"Can you actually give me magic?" He found himself asking, half in a daze.
"Give it to you, dude? You've already got it." Kazi said.
"First off, don't say dude. Secondly, what the hell do you mean I already have it?"
