Burn Me Down
Chapter 2

Chapter 2

“That night, I learned how cruel life could be. And, it only takes a split second to lose everything.”

The trees drifted past endlessly in the night. The tarred road passing beneath. The quiet drum of the car engine slowly lulling the passengers to sleep.

Beeeeeeeee!

The horn blared me awake, just in time to see the lights.

Then darkness.

“Mom…” I watched my hand reach out, blood dripping onto the pavement. The heat of the fire burning my already stinging body. “Mom.” Using the last of my strength reaching out to the figure sprawled on the tar.

My hand fell.

Darkness.

The multicolored lights never looked this beautiful. Maybe because they were always accompanied by those awful sirens. But I couldn’t hear them. Everything felt surreal, slowed, almost like I was underwater.

I watched the scenes change as they lifted me, but I couldn’t feel their touch.

I wanted to reach for the lights but my body wouldn’t respond, couldn’t respond.

Darkness.

Figures in green rushed around me. Seemingly frantic.

Strangely though, they made no noise. Not even a sound.

A face hovered over me, lips moving, but I couldn’t hear her. I felt tired. More than ever before. Without any ability to resist, my mind faded and the darkness overcame me.

“Fuck! She isn’t going to make it!”

“Don’t say that! She’ll make it! Come on girl, you can make it. Keep your eyes open.”

The machine giving off a rhythmic beep paused, before a continuous beep resumed.

“No! No! No! Come on!” Electricity fired, causing a slight jolt. “Again!” Another discharge, same reaction. “Again!” And another. “Again!”

Beeeeeeeeeeee!

The continuous sound rang ominously through the air. Chilling the hearts of everyone there.

No words were spoken as the hand was raised, softly closing the girl’s eyes for the final time.

“Hey, hey. It wasn’t me who took the money.” The voice was frantic, almost begging

“You calling me a liar?” The voice was cold, uncaring, like it was detached.

“Please, no. Never! I just-. I can explain!” The voice’s begging was followed by the sound of metal cracking against bone. “Ahhhh!!! Jesus Christ! Jesus Christ. Please, please, please…”

A hand reached around the ankle of the man before it. Grabbing onto the final hope.

“Throw him over.” The cold voice commanded.

“No! Hey! Please! Saul! I’m sorry! Jesus Christ! Please Saul! Ple-aaaaaaaaah!” The begging voice faded, growing far away, before ending altogether.

“Sweet silence.” A soft light began to glow upon the rooftop, birthing three fainter lights. The lights would glow brighter when the men would drag the cigarettes. “Come on, let’s go before any pigs come.”

The faint lights soon disappeared from the rooftop.

“Live fast. Die young.” She faintly whispered under her breath as the car smashed through the guardrail. Flying for a moment, before disappearing over the cliff-side.
