Chapter 26

Our plan went as planned. We had the espionage maid unit give out the information on the Emperor's attempt to escape to all the opportunistic nobles as if it were supermarket coupons.

The nobles bought off some of the soldiers to intercept the Emperor as he left the castle during the night. They sent a messenger to the rebels to tell them they had turned against the Emperor and would hand him over by morning. In return, they would all be spared.

The loyal faction had all run away before the rebel army marched on the capital. They might cause some trouble in the future, so I made sure to keep tabs on them.

The ex-Emperor was tied to a post in the centre of the city. He would be screaming for help whilst all the citizens threw rocks and rotten food, and someone even set up a stall that sold horse excrement, which they would throw at him. It was highly profitable, apparently.

Even though it might be inhumane, the Emporer did starve his own people to earn profit. Plus, we can't interfere with what they do with their prisoners.

Now that the war had ended, the rebel army was disbanded. Each of the lords returned to their territories, which I assume was to gather an army to fight. The three main lords, Otis, Navar, and Tristan, needed to decide who would lead the Empire, and all three wanted the throne.

Christina, on the other hand, joined us. Her territory was slightly far away and was surrounded by the Empire. So, I immediately took a ride along with a hundred units to build a military outpost.

It was equipped with landing pads, hangers, several computer-controlled M61 Vulcan machine guns stationed on each corner of the base, and among other things.

There was also enough space for a single runway for planes to land.

I built a slightly smaller command centre, but it had long-range communication capabilities and an underground bunker nearly impossible to break into. I left five hundred new combat units to protect the base.

After I finished building, I went to stay at Christina's mansion to have a chat. Her knowledge was going to be extremely helpful, especially with business.

Our factories could produce modern goods, as long as we had the suitable materials. Many things in this world did not exist on Earth, and vice versa.

So we had begun searching far and wide to find replacements. One amazing discovery was a plant that the hunters used to make poison arrows and traps. The lab was able to remove the toxic components of the plant and then turn it into a drug that could cure colds.

I showed her a list of potential items that we could start manufacturing, but it was best to have them tested beforehand since we weren't familiar with the living situation in this world.

I had a large box of random household products delivered to her and her retainers to try out. Though, for Christina, she was experiencing things from Earth again. I did the same for Roland, Aidan, and their retainers as well.

Next was about trading, which Christina understands the best out of all of us since she has her own company.

"With the goods that you have shown me so far, maybe we should build supermarkets in most of the major towns?" suggests Christina. "These items would change everyday life."

"That's doable, but we would need a new method of transport to deliver the goods to each place. For now, we can use trucks, but there aren't any proper roads made yet, so it will take them longer."

Stolen novel; please report.

"Why don't you also build a railway system. You can probably make a decent amount of money by providing transport to not only travellers but also merchants and their goods."

"That would sort out quite a few problems in terms of transport. You know that we won't be able to build one in your territory."

"I know, and there should be a way for you to do it."

"Is that so?"

"You see that the land that separates mine and Aidans belonged to a minor lord that followed Otis. However, it seemed like he owed a lot of money to a Crime Syndicate that set up a drug farm in that place.

During the war, I was in charge of sorting out the funds for rebellion when one of my subordinates noticed that the minor lord was claiming funds for two thousand troops when we've received word that he only has a thousand soldiers."

"So he was essentially embezzling money from the funds, which I assume was mostly donated by you."

"That's right, so I sent some people over to him to talk, but he says there was nothing wrong and sent them away. Though the next day, he was mysteriously dead in a brothel; perhaps he couldn't handle the excitement," she says with a chuckle, sending shivers down my spine.

"Uh, remind me not to mess you with when it comes to money."

"Haha, it's alright. Plus, technically, now all the money I would be handling would be yours."

"Huh, what do you mean?"

"Don't tell me you weren't going to place someone random in charge of the country's money?"

"No, of course not. But I was planning on having a group of units to be in charge."

"Oh wait, I forgot, you had that amazing power." says the now dejected Christina.

"B-but you can take the role of managing all the government business, like the supermarkets," I quickly returned without thinking.

"Perfect, now that I have a role. I shall do my best at it." Christina's expression changed back to her usual cheery self, and that was when I realised that she played me like a fiddle.

"Now, back to the main topic. The Crime Syndicate is called the Ivory Death, and they were growing something called Death Poppies to make their drugs. From what I've heard, these plants would drain the soil of all its minerals."

"Do you know what type of drugs they're making?"

"Nope, just that much. I didn't particularly look into them much since they've never bothered me. But I know that this syndicate is almost in every country, selling drugs, assassinations, kidnapping, and the list goes on. I hope you can prevent them from growing in our new country."

"Of course, we will make sure that them or any other syndicates won't be able to grow."

The Death Poppies sparked my interest, and no, I'm not going to grow them. Wait, technically, I will if they prove to be helpful. Poppies from Earth could also be used to make morphine, a powerful pain relief medication.

If the Death Poppies could be used, we could equip future hospitals and our medics with them. But I would probably grow them in a lab and enlist the help of our tree spirit friend.

Secondly, the bit of land that belonged to the embezzling noble now belonged to Otis. If it was in a seriously bad state, like Christina says it was, then surely Otis wouldn't mind us purchasing it from him.

Otis definitely needed the money to raise an army if he was to try and take the throne for himself, so I just needed to make sure that the offer was presented at the right moment. So I planned to go home to consult with Ayumi.

"Oh, and before you go, I have a merchant acquaintance in the Kingdom of Haiumi who bought me some interesting news."

Behind the Abyssal forest are giant mountains, and behind that is the Kingdom of Haiumi. It's an isolated country that could only be accessed by sea since the mountains and forests were perilous and impossible to hike.

Since we were landlocked, we could not travel by sea to reach that country. Being landlocked meant that we didn't need to have a navy, but the downside was that trading with countries even further away was not possible. I also craved seafood now that my rice needs were satisfied.

There was just no way to get seafood in an inland territory, and this world's quickest transport method was a speedy horse. But modern technology is our saviour in this case. Just imagine all the delicious seafood I could eat...

"I'm not even going to ask what you are thinking about, but as I was saying. This merchant friend told me that the country was in the middle of a civil war."

"Civil war?"

"Yes, it seems the country's prime minister wants the throne himself, so he has borrowed an army from several island tribes."

"And are they winning?"

"They are. However, I'm not sure about the exact details. But, it seems that the prime minister used his power to move the army and take the capital—all I'm saying as your newly appointed minister of business is if you help the young Queen to regain control, opening up trade might be much easier."

My dream of eating seafood might be coming true.
