Intro: number 26

Prologue

Today many world leaders will hold a meeting to decide if Virtual Reality should stay banned. This is the first time such a meeting has been held since the Grand Disappearance. This meeting also serves as a memorial service to all 17 167 865 players of the first virtual reality game Never Ending, whom disappeared precisely three years ago.

The cause of this disaster is still unknown and many scientists even claim that such a thing should not have been possible with modern technology. The company that created Never Ending just vanished on the release day of the game, right after the players had entered the capsules.

The next topic is about the earthquakes in Congo.

"Number 26, here is your food."

"Thank you, Mister Guard.", he cheerfully replied.

The young guard looks confused before replying:"Ehhh, no problem."

"Hahaha, You are new on the job aren't ya?", laughed another guard."

"Yes sir, how did you notice so quickly?"

He takes a sip out of his tankard before replying: "You were surprised by 26's behavior. If you are wondering why he acts like that, then the easiest explanation is that he is damaged goods."

"Damaged goods?"

"He is just like a child. Maybe the most dangerous child in existence, but still a child.", he says before taking another sip.

"Sir, what do you mean by a child?"

The older guard lets out a sigh before replying:"He is innocent. You can tell him anything and he will believe it. Well lately it has become harder to teach him new things, but he sees everything here as normal."

The old guard looks at the other guard and sees his confusion.

"I'll tell you how he became like this, sit down.", he says as he gestures at a chair.

When the young guard sits down he starts talking again: "You know that a bunch of humans arrived one year ago, right?"

"Of course."

"Well, he was one of them and no ordinary human, he was one of the best. The people called him the Wind Blade and he was a shining beacon of hope for the humans, but when war broke out with us vampires he let himself be captured so that a big part of the human army would be able to escape."

The young guard stared in disbelieve at the young man in the cage, who is happily eating his meal, "He was that strong?"

"He is that strong, why do you think he is still alive?", the old guard replies before taking another sip. He then continues: "Do you know what the Blood Queen did to all those they captured?"

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The young guard slowly shakes his head.

The smile on the old guard dies down and says with a serious expression: "They injected a dead Progenitors blood into them."

"A Pro-Prog-Progenitors Blood?!" the young guard cries out in disbelief.

"He lost his memory because of it, as a soldier myself I can't agree how we treated this war hero. Even if he was an enemy he still deserved some respect", the old guard says with a look of anger.

"Did you fight him on the battlefield?" the young guard curiously asks.

The old guard lets out a sigh before saying: "If I would have faced him in his prime I would have been dead for sure. I saw him cutting down our soldiers left and right, nothing could stop him. Even when he stayed behind to cover the retreat of the rest of the army he was still slaughtering us. I guess his level was almost 100. In the end, we were able to take him down with the help of the Blood Queen herself.”

"That can't be right, normal vampire soldiers are only around level 60 and even nobles are only 85, but if the Blood Queen personally had to intervene to beat him then it must be true", the guard replies in disbelief.

"Well there is no way to know anymore, he also lost his level because of the blood. Now his level is 43, but I have seen his stats and those are abnormal for that level. I have heard that the blood doubles the stats he gains for every level.", the old guard says.

"Wow, I sure would like some progenitors blood myself.", the young guard says while imagining how strong he would be with that.

The old guards takes a deep breath before shouting: "No, you don't!”

He then calms down and starts talking normal again: “They injected 10000 humans with that blood, now there are only a hundred left. Even worse is that except him, all the other subject are still tormented by hellish pain. Tell me, do you want to die, feel like you are tortured all day or end up like him?”

The face of the young guards turns red because of the embarrassment and he replies: "No."

The old guard gulped the rest of his drink down before saying:"It is time for his next fight.”

The old guard walks up the 26 and says with a smile:"Come on 26, you need to fight again."

He looks up and cheerfully replies:"Sure Mr. Guard!”
