Awake

I woke up in pitch darkness, I couldn't remember anything besides my name and age. I tried to think of how I'd gotten there. I couldn't. It was like trying to read a book with a hole in it... It just doesn't give you all the information. I looked around the room, and couldn't see at first but after what felt like a lifetime later they started to adjust to the darkness.

I saw two other dark shadows crouched over just like me in two other corners of the room. I started to panic. Memories suddenly rushed through my head, of a family, friends, a hike that we took that ended up getting us… I didn’t know anything past that.

I tried to think harder but I couldn't. I tried to keep racking my brain for what happened but I couldn't get past just taking a hike with two of my best friends that ended supposedly very very badly.

A rush of chills spiraled down my back. I looked back over to my two friends who were now frantically looking around too. I tried to speak but i couldn't, no words would come out, i was about to open my mouth and try again when i heard a creak by the door. And then after that came two whispering voices,

“Be more quiet or else the children will wake.”

“But don't you want them awake?”

“No not until he’s here, he’ll want them asleep to make sure they're actually capable of what we told him.”

“Oh of course I forgot he wanted to test them first.”

“Yes now come back to the main entry to talk and we’ll wait till after he tests them to wake the children and prepare them to exit the dungeon.”

I heard their footsteps walk away mumbling stuff to each other so quiet I couldn't make out the words. After another minute or so i couldn't hear them anymore, and ten minutes after that i passed out.

I had a terrible dream. I was looking at the ground through my own eyes, I just couldn't do anything, like I was watching through the eyes of someone else but couldn't control anything of what they were doing. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw two kids running. The kids looked oddly familiar but then again lots of people look familiar.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

They looked like they were scared. Super scared. They were looking back to me calling my name telling me to run. I could see the fright in their eyes, but I didn't know what they were scared of. I was still kneeling down in the grass trying to look for my phone. I found it stuck under some dirt and yanked it up,

“Ha ha! You guys thought i would never find it huh?! Well guess wha-”

I was yanked backwards.

I tried to turn around to see what happened but something held me in place. I saw my friends turn around and start running back yelling at my attacker but within a few seconds some other dark figures pinned them to the ground too.

They gaged all three of us and hoisted us onto their shoulders. I tried to scream out but then I remembered I wasn't in command of this person's body, and even if I was, there was knowone around to help anyway.

After a few minutes of walking they set us all down and took something out of their bags… a blindfold. After a couple minutes we were all blindfolded. Out of the blue I heard a big whack! At first I thought it may have been our savior, maybe someone had noticed us and came to save us!

The person I was watching managed to get part of the blindfold off by rubbing my face against the ground to see what was happening, and i was met with the ugly truth to find that there was no savior, the three men were still there only now one of them was walking towards me with a baseball bat.

I shot awake. It was still dark in the room just a little lighter. I assumed it was mourning. I looked over to see how the other kids in the room(my friends) were doing. I looked over to the one on my right first only to find he was gone with a bleeding pile of chains on the floor.

I quickly looked over to my left and saw the other one was in a bleeding sprawl on the floor with one of the people wearing black that I had seen in my dream leaning over him.

He picked up my friend and yanked him so hard the chains around him broke and his ankle was torn and bleeding.

“Hey! What are you doing?!”

I screamed,

“What's wrong with you?!”

the figure looked over at me still carrying my friend.

“Oh good mourning Daniel,”

they said in a cruel but soft voice,

“So nice of you to join us.”
