A purple room. A pillar of light. 12 people lying unconscious
on the floor next to him. 5 people standing up.
Lei slowly got up from the ground.
Where in the world was he? And how did he get there?
One of the people that were already up walked over to him,
noticing that he was awake. The man that walked up to him had black hair and
brown eyes. He was rather muscular and large, and was currently wearing an army
vest, accompanied with army pants and boots. In his right hand was something
that looked like a pistol, and his left was a lit cigarette. On his face was a
scowling expression… was that his smile? It made him look all the more scary to
Lei, who had absolutely no idea what was going on.
The man stuck out a hand. His mouth curved upward in a
smirk.
“Mu Xun. Nice to meet you. Welcome to what we call the ‘Broken
Dreamscape’, the world of dreams.”
Lei’s head was in a turmoil. How the hell did he get here?
And why was he here?
His mind instantly searched for the past events leading to
the current situation.

*RING RING RING*
A boy with disheveled brown hair slowly got up from the bed.
As soon as he got up, his right arm quickly shot out and slammed the alarm
clock on the desk next to him.
“This stupid thing, waking me up first thing in the morning.
Why can’t I get some extra sleep…”
Upon closer inspection, the boy was quite handsome, with
brown-black eyes and a rather thin nose. His facial features were well
proportioned, and the boy was relatively muscular as well.
Lei Wen. 16 years old. One of the most popular kids at
school, and the captain of the baseball team and the robotics team. Gets good
marks in school, and also is popular among both the males and females.
This was the young man that was currently getting up from
his bed, complaining about his alarm clock.
Lei groggily got up, and reluctantly dragged his body away
from the bedroom and into the bathroom. After brushing his teeth and washing
his face, he quickly put on the school uniform of Luowang Academy and ran
downstairs.
“Sis, I’m going to go now! See ya! I’ll eat breakfast
outside!”
A mumble came from upstairs, showing confirmation that she
heard what Lei said.
Smiling, Lei quickly slipped his shoes on, then ran out the
door.

“Yo, Lei!”
A black-haired kid that looked to be around Lei’s age walked
up to him in a friendly manner. He was one of Lei’s best friends, Kun Chu.
Lei quickly turned around and adjusted his glasses. Smiling,
he returned the greeting.
“Hey Kun, need something?”
Kun quickly walked over and began to laugh. Clutching his
chest, he said jokingly, “Why are you here so early? Could it be… you’re seeing
some girl?”
Lei punched him on the shoulder, and replied in an annoyed
tone, “Kun, stop joking. I don’t really like anyone in this school.”
Kun, upon hearing this, rubbed his shoulder and grinned.
“So, you’re interested in a chick that’s not from school?
Who is it?”
Lei punched him again. Sometimes, Kun could be very
annoying, like now.
“Ow! Take it easy on me; mister captain of the baseball
team!”
Kun was rubbing his shoulder again, and gave a strained
smile while saying to Lei, “I swear, my shoulder is going to be sore by the
time today’s over…
Lei sighed and ignored Kun’s ramblings. It served him right
for teasing him like that.
Kun turned around and had a platonic smile on his face again,
while asking, “Lei, do you want to get something to eat from the school

cafeteria?”
Lei shook his head and replied, “No need. I had something at
Moonbucks.”
Kun turned around, and said playfully, “You know, maybe some
hot chick is there early in the morning…”
Lei sharply glanced at Kun, and coolly said, “Do you want me
to punch your shoulder again?”
Upon hearing this, Kun quickly ran out of the classroom. Lei
truly was powerful; if he had used all his power in those 2 punches, then Kun
would not still have an intact shoulder.
Lei exhaled, and let his head plop on his desk.
“6:29am… should be able to get another half an hour’s worth
of sleep.”
And with that, Lei drifted into oblivion once again.

Shanghai. Luowang Academy. Noon. The School Gates.
“See ya, Lei!”
“Alright, take care, Kun!”
Lei waved at the departing Kun, then he turned around and
began walking home as well.
Kun really is an interesting individual, Lei thought. His
personality and looks are more feminine than the traits that males should possess.
He was also extremely crafty.
Although Lei was smart, he couldn’t be considered ‘crafty’.
Lei was already a relatively advanced computer programmer, as his sister took
him to a few seminars regarding programming.
Lei’s sister was twenty-two, and currently working for a major
corporation called SolarE, and her job was in Human Resources and Finance.
Besides from that, Lei didn’t know much else about his sister’s work, and didn’t
bother to question her, either. His sister hated it when people couldn’t mind
their own business.
This job was barely enough to let his sister take care of
him, and if she didn’t, she could live a relatively comfortable life by
herself. However, she chose to take care of him after their parents died in a
car crash. This action made Lei deeply thankful towards his sister, as he knew
that without her, he would probably be taken away by Social Security and be
forced to live in an orphanage.
The two-bedroom apartment that his sister owned, where they
both currently lived, was just a short walk from the school. In ten minutes, he
arrived home, and opened the door.
“Sister, I’m home.”
No response. That meant that she was probably out at work.
Sighing, Lei took off his shoes, and went straight to his
room. He was planning to take a nap before starting his homework, like he
always did. Today there were no club activities, allowing him to leave a bit
earlier than usual.
When Lei reached his room, he tossed his backpack on the
floor, and went straight for the alarm clock.
The time was currently 4:24pm. If he slept until 5pm, he
could probably finish all his homework at around 11:30.
Lei quickly set the time on the alarm to 5:00pm. He then
plopped onto his bed, and allowed sleep to consume him.
***************************
“Do you truly
enjoy life?”
A string of words invaded Lei’s mind as he was sleeping.
A strange force began to search through his memories.
“Do you wish
for a purpose in life?”
The same voice, once again.
“I can give you
a purpose. I can give you a meaning. I can let you not be a burden, and live an
uninhibited life.”
That voice. That sweet, melodious voice rang through Lei’s
head for the third time now.
“Will you trust
me? Will you let me guide you? Will you entrust your fate to me?”
That voice was truly too sweet, and sounded too pure. It was
truly too hard to resist it, and even harder to suspect that the person who was
talking to him had any ill intentions towards him.
A part of Lei’s inner mind stirred. In his subconscious, a
word gradually emerged.
Yes.
“Very well.
Good choice. The game for you… starts now. Good luck surviving, Lei Wen.”
