I opened my eyes. It was blurry for a bit, but my vision sharpened as I looked up at the ceiling.
“H-Huh?” I questioned.
“You’ve finally woken up, Kaitou,” the Nurse said.
“Who are you? W—where am I?” I asked.
“I am Nurse Reina.”
“You are in the nurse’s room right now,” she said, “You have been unconscious for a week since your match.”
I sat up and looked down at the bed sheets covering most of my body. I remembered what happened. I managed to beat Fukui in the sparring match, but broke my legs during the process.
“A-are my legs ok?” I asked Nurse Reina.
“Your legs have been repaired with the help of my broken art, rehabilitation. I was able to restore your broken legs back to its previous unbroken condition,” she replied.
She continued on, “Though, you shouldn’t strain your legs for another two days.”
My eyes widened with worry.
“W-what happens if I do?” I asked hesitantly.
“My technique will revert, and your legs will remain broken,” she replied with a serious face.
“I see,” I said.
“So I won’t be able to train for the next two days,” I thought with a slightly angry face.

I was released from the nurse’s office near sunset and returned to my dorm.
It was the next day. I got up from my bed and got ready for class. What Nurse Reina said was stuck in my head all night.
I went to the cafeteria to eat breakfast then headed to my class. I opened the door, walked inside, and sat down at my seat.
“Welcome back Kaitou! we all missed you.” Daichi-sensei said.
“H-hello,” I responded.
Akira waved at me with a smile.
Fukui looked at me for a while.
“Does he still have a grudge against me?” I wondered.
He, later, looked away.
Shoota glared at me, menacingly.
“We couldn’t go on any mission because of you,” Shoota yelled with an attitude.
As much as I hate Shoota, he was right. It was my fault they all didn’t get to go on their first mission since the start of school. I carelessly channeled more broken ki than I could handle. I looked down with a frustrated face.
Daichi-sensei clapped his hands.
“We all may have not been able to go on our first mission, but you guys got a full free week of training and preparation for today's mission.
“Today's mission?” Shoota questioned.
“Yes. We have been assigned to exterminate Usual Onryos,” Daichi-sensei replied.
“Usual Onryos. Those are the second weakest types of Onryos,” I thought.
Daichi-sensei continued, “Since the sparring match was called off due to your severe injuries, I will assign your positions based on how I saw you fight during the matches.”
The class was all ears.
I listened as Daichi-sensei assigned everyone's positions. He didn't take too long to assign the positions. Shoota and Fukui were assigned to be the heavy hitters, being the best at combat, followed by Akira, who was fast and strong but not as fast and strong as the other two.
Lastly, there was me.
"Daichi-sensei, excuse me, but what about me?" I asked.
Daichi-Sensei smirked.
"I have something special in mind for you, Kaitou," he replied.
“I’ll tell you once we arrive at the Common Area, which is the spot where most Onryos are spotted,” he pointed out.
We all met at the gate to the academy, ready for the mission.
Shoota stretched his legs, while Fukui and Akira stretched their arms.
Daichi-sensei clapped
his hands.
“Alright guys, it's time to head out,” he said.
The mission had been intense, our teamwork and individual skills pushed to their limits against the Usual Onryos. As we regrouped at the academy, the weight of our success hung in the air, mingled with the exhaustion of battle. Daichi-sensei, ever the stoic leader, surveyed our group with a keen eye, assessing our performance.
"Excellent work, everyone," he said, his voice carrying a note of pride. "Each of you demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery today."
Shoota grinned, a rare display of satisfaction on his usually stern face. Fukui nodded in agreement, his muscles still tensed from the fight. Akira gave a small nod, her gaze focused and determined.
But as for me, I couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty that gnawed at my insides. Despite my role in the mission, I couldn't help but wonder if I had truly lived up to Daichi-sensei's expectations. My mind raced with doubts, questioning whether I had truly earned my place among my classmates.
Daichi-sensei must have sensed my unease, for he approached me with a reassuring smile. "Kaitou, you may not realize it, but your contribution to the mission was invaluable," he said, his words a balm to my troubled thoughts.
"You possess a unique talent, one that sets you apart from your peers. Embrace it, and you will continue to grow stronger with each challenge you face."
His words struck me, weakening my doubts and making me more brave. With a nod, I thanked Daichi-sensei for his guidance, vowing to better my skills and become the best I can be.
