chapter 21

Following the sound, Bai Ze quickly moved through four or five rooms.

At last, he arrived at an open door, from which the voices emanated.

Inside, a man’s rough tone rang out again:

“Since we’re both going to die anyway, why not let me have fun before the end?”

“Stay away! Don’t come near me!”

“Sweetheart,” the man growled, his voice shifting to something far more sinister, “I risked being bitten by a zombie to save you. Are you really this heartless?”

“Ah! No! Please, I’m begging you—don’t!”

Slap! The sharp sound of a strike echoed out.

“You ungrateful bitch!” he snarled. “If it weren’t for you begging me to rescue you, I wouldn’t have gotten bitten! Do you remember what you said back then? You promised to be my girlfriend if I saved you!”

“Now I’m here, and I’m a dead man walking. The least you could do is let me enjoy myself!”

The girl’s sobs filled the room, her cries interspersed with the sound of fabric being torn.

Hearing this, Bai Ze surged forward, reaching the door in an instant. Peering inside, he saw the man forcing himself into the girl, his primal desires overriding any sense of humanity. A deep, infected bite mark marred his neck.

The girl noticed Bai Ze’s arrival and shot him a desperate look, her tear-streaked face silently pleading for help.

Upon seeing her, Bai Ze exhaled softly. She wasn’t one of his intended targets.

Just as he turned to leave, the man abruptly looked over his shoulder, his gaze locking onto Bai Ze.

“Hey, you! Don’t even think about walking away!” he barked, his voice tinged with hysteria. Then, turning back to the girl with a glare, he growled, “Is he your secret lover?!”

The girl trembled and shook her head in denial, but her eyes darted back to Bai Ze, silently begging him to intervene.

Bai Ze’s brow furrowed. He hadn’t planned to meddle, but the man’s audacity—his nerve to yell at him—made Bai Ze pause.

Then he recognized him. This wasn’t just any man; it was someone from his past, someone who had bullied him relentlessly.

The man seemed to recognize Bai Ze as well, a sneer twisting his lips.

“Well, well, if it isn’t Bai Ze,” he jeered. “I can’t believe a pathetic worm like you managed to survive. What are you doing here, anyway? Hooking up with this little slut, huh?”

“You know, I chased her for so long, and she kept turning me down. Now I get it—she was fooling around with you. Tell me, how does it feel to watch me take her? Does it burn you up inside? Hah! What can you even do about it, huh? You’re nothing but a worthless pervert who takes creepy pictures!”

At these words, Bai Ze’s expression darkened, a storm brewing behind his calm exterior.

If there was one thing he hated more than anything, it was being called a voyeur or a pervert. And hearing it from one of his old tormentors only stoked the fire inside him.

He began to move forward, slowly, deliberately.

The man’s smug grin faltered, unease creeping into his features.

“What... what are you doing?” he stammered, his bravado fading as fear took its place.

Bai Ze seized him by the collar, lifting him effortlessly off the ground.

The man thrashed, trying to break free, but his struggles were futile. Bai Ze’s grip felt like iron, unyielding and unbreakable.

Panic set in, and the man’s voice turned pleading.

“Wait, wait! Don’t kill me! Look, if you like her so much, she’s yours! I’ll back off, I swear!”

The girl sobbed harder, her tears flowing freely now.

Her heart ached with betrayal. She had once secretly admired this man, yet now she saw him for what he truly was—a coward, a monster, a liar.

“You deserve to die!” she suddenly screamed, her voice raw with emotion. “Kill him, Bai Ze! Kill him! And if you want to do anything to me afterward, I won’t resist!”

Bai Ze glanced at her, his expression one of utter disdain.

“I remember you too,” he said coldly. “You helped spread those rumors about me, didn’t you?”

The girl froze, her eyes widening in shock.

“You’re not even worth it,” Bai Ze spat, his tone dripping with contempt.

Her face twisted with rage, her voice rising in a shrill scream. “Not worth it?! You’re just a filthy voyeur! How dare you—”

Crack!

With a single, bone-snapping motion, Bai Ze broke the man’s neck.

The girl’s scream died in her throat. She stared in horror as the man’s lifeless body crumpled to the floor.

“Bai Ze... I didn’t mean it,” she stammered, trying to force a smile onto her trembling lips. “It was a joke! I wasn’t serious!”

Bai Ze smiled back, but his smile only deepened her terror.

Without a word, he grabbed her by the throat and lifted her into the air, her feet kicking helplessly beneath her.

“Remember this,” he said, his voice icy and calm. “You don’t deserve to stand alongside me. None of you ever did.”

He carried her to another room and kicked open the door, revealing a hungry zombie that lunged toward them.

Bai Ze grabbed the creature by the neck, holding it back effortlessly.

He threw the girl to the ground, watching as she coughed and gasped for air.

“Be a better person in your next life,” he said, releasing the zombie and letting it fall upon her.

Her screams were blood-curdling, echoing through the building as the zombie tore into her. Bai Ze waited until the room fell silent, then dispatched the zombie with a single, brutal strike.

He moved on, methodically searching each room.

At last, he found them—the twin sisters, hiding together in a closet.

When they saw him, they flung the door open.

“Please, help us!” one of them pleaded. “The screams outside were horrifying—did someone get attacked by a zombie?”

Bai Ze smiled, reassured that they were unharmed.

“Of course, I’ll help you,” he said, his tone laced with a faint amusement. “But nothing in this world comes for free.”

“What do you want?” the older sister asked anxiously. “Whatever it is, we’ll give it to you!”

“It’s simple,” Bai Ze replied, his gaze steady. “I want you both to be mine.”
