Berserker Star

“now, we should test how much can you control your abilities”

He said while pointing at the poor dummies at the training grounds.

“try to use basic projectile spells of fire, water, earth, wind and lightning on those dummies”

I silently chuckled.

*I had been secretly training for some time now, I believe I can do a little better than little chunks of dirt and water droplets*

I then extended both of my small hands, covering my left hand was a blue fire and in the right, deep purple lightning strings around it.

I pointed at 2 dummies.

My left hand sprayed the blue fire towards the dummy like a flamethrower, covering it and spreading over it, after that, the flame consumed the dummy in 20 seconds.

My right hand was aimed to the dummy’s head, suddenly a small thunder bolt hit the head, destroying the chunk in the center and burned the rest around it.

Then I closed my eyes focusing once more, my left hand began dripping droplets of gray water, it extended forming a whip, my right hand was open in a knife like form covered in a dark fog.

I looked at my new tests subjects.

I rapidly slashed with my right hand and the dark fog flew towards the dummy cutting it horizontally through the chest, some seconds after, the arms and the upper body above the abdomen part fell.

I then started rotating my wrist to create momentum for the whip to strike, I started swiping it from left to right, then I hit the dummy’s chest area diagonally and the water started dissolving the area it hit, like acid.

I was feeling a little bit cocky now, so I crossed my arms and lifted my left leg and a sort of volcanic rock covered my boots.

I waited a few seconds to build up strength and heavily stomped the ground, then a volcanic rock spike suddenly appeared from the ground and impaled the dummy, piercing it through the stomach.

Now I was a bit tired for the high detail I put while controlling the elements, I had a face full of anxiety and a bit of fear for Eradrur’s reaction, so I turned around slowly and saw Erandrur with a big and warm smile towards me.

I was fearful of rejection or repulse, but after I saw his smile I was happy to no end.

Erandrur came close to me, then knelt in front of me and started to shuffle my black hair saying.

“my boy, you did good, very good”

While he was talking I began to hug him, he was a little startled at first but hugged me back. That meant a lot to me, as it was the first time I had anyone look at me so tenderly and at the same time being hugged with care.

A big spot in my heart was created after this moment just for Erandrur.

“I can feel how much you value this, I’ve never been close to anyone besides my brothers in the order, never had a wife or child, you are the simply the son I never had, my legacy”

I looked at him again with tears flowing down uncontrollably and shoved my head in his chest.

“master, but I am not an elf, how will others treat you and me”

He then took my face in his hands and stared straight at me and said with a solemn voice.

“I could care less for disdainful or mockery eyes at me, but know that I will always be there for you…my son”

“thank you… father”

I said I while trying to calm down a bit, we stayed like that for a few minutes while he gently patted my head.

After I calmed down I stood in front of him while trying to wipe my tears with a soft smile. He put his hand on my shoulder and we both looked at my display.

“well, I couldn’t have done better, but I fear I am not enough for you to reach your maximum potential, so I have to ask. Do you want to be strong, for yourself and for the ones you want protect?”

He said with a serious face.

“yes” I said with an equally serious face.

“the path will not be easy, it will demand everything you have and even more, I cannot favorite you as my son, you will train to become strong, how strong will depend on you”

“yes” I said again with more determination.

“are you sure you will be able to?”

“YES” I said while clenching my small fists with a raging determination.

“good, then tomorrow we shall finally leave to a different training ground”

I was slightly scared, I never left this place, and I learned that the Telran continent is massive, danger everywhere and nowhere. Unpredictable.

“where?”

“the Asura Island, we will train there for 7 painstakingly years with my order brothers, after that you will need to roam the land  alone to test your skills, gain insights to improve and to understand the world and it’s people”

*Being all alone in this world, striving for a chance, at least I would know how to defend myself*

“your elven brothers?”

“not only my elven brothers and me, but also my brothers from other races like: Lyona, of the lioness tribe; Solan, a celestial; Thorkin, the dwarf smith; Cullen, the human commander; Hylin, the fairy; Lilith, the demon temptress. I will try and convince them to be your masters and pass their knowledge unto you, for I judged you to be capable of unwavering will and unbreakable determination”

*Now this, is a little bit too overwhelming, what kind of training will I receive? What will I become?! *

“what will be expected from me master?”

“for this training will you need to break your limits until you achieve to be whatever you wish to become, or at least try”

I nodded.

“but now, we shall prepare for a short trip to the island portal, and on the way I will explain the levels of each race and some traits that come with it”

After that we headed back to the cabin to prepare some short term supplies, as well some materials for the elven training.

By the time we finished it was time for dinner, while I prepared the table Erandrur made the food, when he brought the food he was also carrying something else.      

We finished dinner then, he placed a beautiful silver like, round mirror in the table.

“this will help us to make your second name as well as your spirit being and star”

Last names are especial for the elven race, they have meaning, they determine your inner self, the star and spirit will show who watches over you and your talents.

*star? does the greater dog exist is this world constellation too?*   

I thought while my eyes were focused in the center of the silver mirror.

“it needs a drop of your blood”

I nod, I then bite the end of my index finger with my beast canines, I let my finger above the mirror and squeeze a drop of blood.

But Erandrur and I were startled because it wasn’t blood that came out, but a dark silver liquid, it falls onto the mirror and immediately, the mirror’s surface turned black.

We were staring curious of what would surface in that darkness. Then I saw.

Sirius, the Greater Dog Star alone in the dark space, but it seemed to move away, the further it moved, more an image became clearer, the star formed the pupil of a gigantic black wolf that seemed to stare at us.

Then he began a loud howling that made my body burn as if lava was inside of me, I screamed as loud as I could while trying to roll on the ground but Erandrur was on top of me screaming as well.

But I could not hear what he was saying, I just heard the howl grow louder, then the pain began to subside, but I felt like I was changing again.

I had one thing in my mind, the star, I needed it, to see, to feel this power surging in my body, release myself, I got Erandrur off me and ran as fast as I could outside.

While outside, I began searching, my star, the reason for this power, I then saw it high in the sky, pain filled my body once again, I had lost my mind.

I howled as loud as I could, it was similar to the black wolf, but his seemed to shake the whole universe, to bend it as he wished, everything was at his mercy.

I raised my hands towards the star, trying to get a hold of it, and in my madness, noticing I was unsuccessful I hit ground the ground with all my strength.

I formed a small crater, I felt the ground around me shake and deform, after that my mind shifted and all I saw was my star in the darkness, and passed out.

“Aahhh, - huff huff- ”

I woke up breathing heavily with that howl in my head, as if it was calling me towards it again.

I looked around to see Erandrur beside my bed holding my hand, but a part of that enormous strength was still in me and my hand was different, my nails were larger, sharp and somewhat silver.

Erandrur woke up was well, noticing my hand was not within his grasp, he looked at me staring at my hands and hugged me tightly.

“I thought I lost you”

I was left speechless, what happened after I passed out, but I hugged ‘father’ back gently, scared of my new monstrous force hurting him.

“what happened to me?”

He looked at me and held my hands, he then removed my blanket, my feet also had claws, I became even more beastly than just my ears and teeth.

“that’s not all” he picked a nearby hand mirror and passed it to me “your eyes too”

I looked at myself in disbelief, the same way as the giant wolf’s eyes, the star was the pupil but it kept a shining silver glint on it.

“son, your star and spirit are the most frightening things I have ever seen I my life, and I am 600 years old”

“600?” now I stared at him in disbelief.

“well, 657 but let’s not lose the focus here”

“what is there to focus, I am a monster”

He took my head in his hands and stared directly in my eyes.

“NO, you are not, you are Sirius and your deserving second name shall be Draug, it means wolf in an ancient elven”

*wolf*

“but what should we do now with these”

I said while I stared at my hands.

“what changed? Just some claws and more strength aren’t a bad thing, they will you help you develop even more, do you not feel comfortable to go now?”

“NO, I still wish to go, father please”

He put his hand on my shoulder and said.

“of course my son, it would be a waste of your talent and determination to give up now, especially when I already prepared everything for our trip”

He said with a small grin going to the side to reveal the supplies behind him.

“do you thing you can carry your own things”

He showed a worried look.

I smile beamed from my face.

“yes, even yours”

“haha, off to a very good start” he patted my head “now, let’s go, it will take us 6 hours to get to the portal”

We got our things, and headed outside, father waved his hands while saying “open” softly, and a big oval portal opened, the image of a green lush forest was foggy inside of the portal.

Father extended his hand to me.

I looked back to the cabin, it may have been 3 years but those were one of the most precious memories I would keep in my life.

I met Father, he took care of me every single day and taught me about the world, of its wonders and dangers, it’s people, it’s tales, it’s creatures but especially about the adventures that could be had when roaming the land.

I then took MY father’s hand and we went through the portal, around us were a forest that emitted peacefulness, I felt the wind caressing my face and my black hair flowing with it, the pure air and pulsating life power that could make anyone happy to be here.

We looked at each other smiling and began walking towards my new training ground, it would surely be an important stepping stone towards the path of power.

But also a method to find a clue for my destiny in this world or maybe it will be the answer to all my doubts.
