Deliverance

Deliverance

Date: C395Day2

Curious but rather disoriented, Olie could not quite understand the feelings he gets from the sight of the deliverance ceremony, this is his first time witnessing it, and the fact that it is being held for his father. His cousin and friend Bogdan stands beside him.

“Olie, are you okay?” Bogdan whispered

“Yeaa..”

“Hey, we’ll always be here for you, you can treat my parents as your own right?”

“Of course..thanks” Olie answered, but could barely be heard.

Visually troubled, Olie flashed his view on everyone; roughly sixteen people were there to attend, all are members of his extended family from the guild. He caught a glance at his auntie Mrs. Dacy -- Bogdan’s mom.. as she flashes a reassuring smile at the boy, he immediately felt lighter and settled.

He proceeded to fix his gaze on the Kemat (head of the deliverance ritual), as it performed the rite on his father’s body, his associates formed a triangular shape with the corpse in between, the ground covered with a large round plain red carpet. The walls of the deliverance temple only hear the voice of the Kemat and his associates, while they speak words that could be barely understood by all other Gomotians in attendance.

Sensing the intensity of the ceremony and the feeling of heartbreak from his father’s passing, Olie is simultaneously being absorbed by the ecstatic surrounding and atmosphere of the deliverance temple, he wandered his eyes through the peculiar markings of the walls, he is particularly captured by the big symbol directly above the center altar, some pointed arrow with a circle, mirrored upside and down.

For some while, he seemed to have fell in a daze until he got back to his full consciousness when he heard --

“The deliverance sacrament has been successfully done to this tireless and faithful soul. Let us give our Lord, our provider, our father, Yldebir - our gratitude, our faith, our lives; and announce our wishes to our beloved Dakima that she shall grant you a new member of your people.” the Kemat announced enthusiastically, as he thanked everyone who joined in and witnessed the ceremony.

Everybody chanted “Our gratitude to the great Yldebir; Blessed be the beloved Dakima”, the two relatively young boys quickly followed the words.

The Kemat continued his speech, “as faithful members of the guild Brame, you have all come to witness the deliverance of one of your family; thence, you shall stay strong as you’ve always been, we look forward to bringing forth a new unit into your guild.”

“Brame is grateful, may a Reacher come upon us.” the Brames answered.

“May it be done, you may all leave.” The Kemat replied while maintaining a blank look on his face.

“Let’s head home,” Olie’s mother -- Mrs. Marci, spoke with a light sign of relief, but barely an ounce of inspiration visible in her eyes.

“Sure mom”

As they walked out of the temple, the boys couldn’t help but take an extended look from the mountain view.

“Amazing!! “Look, Olie, there’s our house over there” Bogdan exclaimed while pointing his finger.

“You sure that’s our place? I don’t think so”

“C’mon you can’t be that awful right? That’s definitely our place, you can even see the open ground where we used to play.” Bogdan almost rolled his eyes.

Olie chuckled “Okay you’re right Mr. Map”

“Amazing though, you can see the whole Gomot from here,” Olie continued..

“All of the twelve guilds are basically in our field of view, but it’s just too big -- and far.”

“Of course, that’s why temples are located in these corners and elevated areas. You see that? that’s one of the deliverance temples” Bogdan pointed in the opposite direction.

“What? Where?” Olie baffled while trying to look harder.

“Seriously, you can’t see it? Bogdan yelled in a taunting manner.

Olie is unamused “well, I think I need a set of eyes as big as yours to even get a glimmer of it”, he said followed by a speck of smirk.

“Shut up!!” Bogdan continues after a short giggle but frowning “Listen -- well, technically it’s in there, the four deliverance temples are built forming a square surrounding the whole Gomot.”

Bogdan explained with an ardent voice, he seems to really love his knowledge. Olie might not show it, but he is always equally as excited to hear any information from his cousin.

“Hmm..Bogdan, what about that space there?”

“W..what space?”

“There, that big one in the middle”

“Oh, that one.. with the walls?”

“Yes”

“Well, Olie, according to what I heard from my dad, that’s the area for the Feast.”

Olie responded with a decreased voice, “oh, the Ff.. I see”

“Yeah, cool right? ha - ha...”

There was a brief moment of awkward silence between the two..

“Are you two boys gonna stay there? We’ll go ahead then!” called Mrs. Dacy.

“Wait for us.. we’re coming!” quickly chasing the group ahead.

The Brames went on through the long way of over a few hundred steps of the mountain stair, eventually reaching the ground.

The guild Brame, being one of the top three frye gatherers among all the guilds, also has a very high frye reserve which gives them capability to utilize the transportation grid powered by frye magic.

Finally Olie and Mrs. Marci arrived at their place, as they were about to open the house door, his elder cousin Reno called his attention, and approached Olie “hey hope you’re okay, try to get some proper rest, tomorrow’s the day.” while giving the boy a tap in the back. "Aunt Marci,” he added, followed by a short bow and a smile he then proceeded to leave.

As they enter the door, Olie couldn’t help but make a pause at his second step, still trying to deal with the fact that his father is no longer there, with a blurred vision, he stared at the corner chair where his father always used to sit. He rubbed his one eye and had a quick sniff.

“You heard your cousin, you better go to your bed”

Olie, still feeling disoriented, barely understood anything his mother was saying.

“Olie!”

“M..mother”

Mrs. Marci sighed and approached him “Olie, my son -- I’m..sorry”

“No you’re not” he responded with a gloomy whisper but wasn’t heard by his mom.

“Listen, you’re fifteen now.. you’re all grown up -- your frye license application will start tomorrow, just follow and take note of what the handler will say, you can do it.”

“How would you know?” Olie in a jaded voice.

~A brief moment of deafening silence~

“Anyway, about your father”

“I’m okay” Olie did not wait any more moment to respond.

“..Goodnight then.”

“Goodnight”

Olie tried to sleep, but naturally could not, he opened the window in his room and watched the Gomotian moon from his bed. He always felt a strong connection with this massive celestial object.

That night, he went into deep contemplation, something developed inside himself that he has not understood yet. He eventually fell asleep and dreamed about something that will stick to his memory for the rest of his life.
