Chapter 1

In a small village, isolated between mountains, the villagers avoid staying outside their houses when the sun is setting, as they believe it's the time where monsters start to hunt.

A group of kids ran and decided to stay at one house, exhausted but energized, they stood astonished once they entered, watching the cool boy in the village waving his hand smoothly as he used his magical power. One of them, a boy called Zoeske, eyes sparkled as he was surprised of the pace the cool guy learned this power.

With a loud and amused voice, Zoeske said, "Wow, Leonel, you have surpassed my father in few weeks!"

Leonel, a 17-years-old boy, who possesses a straight golden-brown hair that reaches his shoulders. His light-honey eyes are sleepy, framed with a long eyelashes, and shaded by eyebrows that are thinner and lighter than his hair. He started learning the basics of the power when he first came to the village, the old man Ownald, saw a potential in him and thus taught him.

"Come with me, kids, I have a surprise for you," Leonel said. Opening his small room's door, they found the room dimly lit by the remaining light of the sunset. After he closed the door behind them, he grapped a hand-sized device below his bed, and showed it to them. With an exciting tone, he said, "This is a magic container, it can preserve magical power and with my touch It can be used to manipulate magical power based on specific instructions or logic." Leonel said.

"but I heard this is a philosophical topic in magic studies," Zoeske said.

Leonel placed his forefinger in front of his mouth, and said, "Keep it a secret and I will teach you all how to do it."

An exciting girl called Binkines said, "I am not sure if I understand anything, but is this a beautiful magic? I can't see anything."

"Observe carefully, I will run it now," Leonel said. As he placed his hand on the surface of the device, an aura seemed to transfer to it, as if he were feeding it. All of sudden, a huge screen covered the empty wall and started to display a scene of the kid running to the house.

Zoeske and the kids were speechless, surprised and shocked, they watched themselves on the screen, running in the past ten minutes before they entered the house, as the old woman shouted at them "Get back to your moms kids!". Leonel observed the shock in the kids' faces, and warmly smiled while reassuring them.

"Keep watching" Leonel demanded, as if it was not shocking enough.

The room glowed with the light from the magical screen, and the light escaped from the windows. The screen began to display the magical beasts having fun at the green hills, that are filled with flowers, this morning. A white, peaceful beast that looks like a half-rabbit and half-cat. Leonel commented, "This creature is considered one of the rarest creatures in the world. It is fast and smart."

"Do they hunt them?!" Zoeske asked.

"Awful, you should not ask this question," Binkines interrupted.

Leonel laughed at Binkines's interruption, and then answered Zoeske, "yes they do capture them but they don't kill them because it can locate treasure."

The kids screamed, "Are there treasures in that hill?!"

Zoeske sigh and said, "you guys are careless. Lower you voices."

Leonel narrowed his eyes as he found Zoeske's reaction a bit different from his usula curious reactions. He asked, "You are not interested in the treasure?!"

"Even if we found one there, the soldiers will take it from us," Zoeske answered.

Leonel grew worried that Zoeske could've been eavesdropping on the elders, he laughed and then made the kids leave his room.

"One more question, they said you can get only one ability," Zoeske said. "Was this your ability?"

"I know what you are up to, but sometimes you can use pen in different ways," Leonel said.

"I will look forward to how creative you will be with it," Zoeske said.

"Sometimes I forget that you're just 13 years old," Leonel said.

Zoeske smirked and walked away. After a large meal, the kids went to sleep, anticipating tomorrow so they can start searching for the hidden treasure secretly. At night, villagers sleep hearing sounds of different monsters; for them, it's a sign to start praying for their safety.

The next morning, the kids skipped the breakfast, running to the treasure Leonel had shown them yesterday. Zoeske was frustrated, as they would expose everything; unlike the other kids, the most important thing to him was learning from Leonel. Once they reached the location, all the birds and magical beasts fled.

Zoeske looked around, worried that someone might've followed them, he said, "Hey, slow down."

"You are too slow Zoe," Binkines said.

A blond-haired boy named Saint, Binkines's best friend, was the first one to reach the exact location. He shouted at them, "Heeey! over here, I found it!"

All of them formed a circle around Saint, with the exhausted Zoeske joining them. They looked at him and laughed. Saint said, "You should drink more milk, Zoe."

Binkines commented, "he is small too, even though we're all at the same age."

"Shut up, you two, it's just that I wanted to enjoy the view. That's why I run slower," Zoeske said.

The fourth boy, the tallest one with brown curly hair, Ryon, smiled and interrupted, "That doesn't explain why you're panting," making everyone laugh at Zoeske.

With a surly face, he said, "Whatever. Now, what should we do?"

Saint looked at the ground, while everyone else was unsure where is the treasure exact location; however, he acted immediately and dug below him. The other kids were clueless, but when they saw Saint act quickly, they did the same and started digging beside him.

An hours have passed, and nothing had been found, but a sudden loud scream from the village shook the kids and shifted their attention away from the treasure. Zoeske, who was the most worried, ran unconsciously toward the village. Saint said, "This was definitely not a normal scream; we should follow him."

Approaching the village, the small kid Zoeske felt his knees weaken after he saw Leonel being taken by the soldiers. He couldn't comprehend what was going on: the old woman was unconscious on the ground, women were trying to protect her, and the men were helpless. Zoeske experienced humiliation for the first time in his life. A spark of rage glowed in his eyes when he noticed one of the soldiers smiling while looking at the old woman on the ground, which led Binkines to notice his rage; she held his shoulders, trying to calm him down.

"Bastards, leave us alone!" Saint screamed. "Your swords aren't scaring us at all ..." He noticed his father staring at him, angry and shaking his head as a sign to stop him from screaming. Saint turn his face the other side and said, "I hate this."

With a faint voice, Zoeske said, "We are weak, weaker than these ants we step on for fun. As long as we are weak, we will remain humiliated by others." He stood and looked at the men. "We should be strong enough to protect ourselves, unlike our ancestors who focused on supplying these pigs with food from our farms."

Saint looked at Zoeske and commented, "Stronger?!" He was frustrated and desperate, shouting, "You know how hard it is to learn these powers! And now we've lost Leonel. First, we should free him, right?!"

Zoeske angrily walked away, and Saint, with tears starting to fall from his eyes, said, "We will save him, right? Right, Zoeske?... Answer me."

Ignoring him, Zoeske entered the house where they had spent the night and closed the door. He sat in Leonel's dark room and said, "What have they done to us?" with eyes that were stripped of their innocence.
