Chapter 10: Dagger of Greed

Chapter 10: Dagger of Greed

Charles’s mother had been gone for a while, leaving him alone in the dimly lit room. He lay on the bed, transfixed by the dagger resting in his palm.

Through the Eye of True Vision, he had uncovered its name and purpose. This was the weapon of the God of Thieves, known as the Dagger of Greed—a sixth-order supernatural artifact.

Charles had never heard of the God of Thieves; it was likely an ancient deity that Jack had unearthed from the depths of obscurity. The Dagger of Greed was a reward reserved for only the highest-ranking believers, a tool designed to steal non-divine things from those unworthy.

If his assumptions were correct, Jack intended to use this dagger to siphon the blue blood from their bodies, transferring that precious essence into his son. However, there were specific conditions for the dagger's power to function; it could only steal blue blood when it had just awakened, at which point it was highly unstable—making the success rate of the theft significantly higher.

If the dagger could freely harvest blue blood at any time, it would be far more than a sixth-order supernatural weapon.

"Dagger of Greed..." Charles mused, gazing at the fractured blade glimmering in the moonlight, his brow furrowed in thought.

Jack had only one son, whose initiation ceremony was still several years away, while Jenny had already undergone her initiation three years ago. Where, then, would Jack store the stolen blue blood until his son’s enlightenment?

Charles’s mind raced with possibilities. “It must... still be inside this dagger!”

His eyes sparkled with newfound determination. If that were true, and he could bring the Dagger of Greed to his initiation ceremony, he could claim the blue blood concentration for himself!

The Eye of True Vision had revealed to him the dagger’s secret: all he needed to do was pierce the palm of his hand to access everything contained within.

With excitement coursing through him, Charles tucked the dagger close to his chest. He had never imagined that Mammon would prove trustworthy. With the concentration of blue blood stored in the dagger, his initiation ceremony was now secure.

As for Jack... his son’s initiation was still years away. Charles figured that as long as he brought the dagger into the ceremony, he would have fulfilled the devil's contract. By the time Jack discovered the dagger was empty, Charles would have already attracted the Duke's attention with his heightened blue blood concentration.

After all, this family still belonged to the Duke. With the Duke's backing, what did he have to fear from Jack?

A beautiful plan unfolded in his mind, and for once, a smile graced his lips. Truly, his uncle was a clever man. While Charles had been worried about his initiation, Jack had unknowingly delivered him a gift.

When he became rich in the future, he vowed to repay Jack with a hundred greedy daggers!

A surge of pride shimmered in his sapphire eyes. This was the most promising news he had received since the attempt on his life.

How ironic it was—Jack, who had plotted for so long, had inadvertently ensured his survival. The dagger, which had been a source of his greatest anxiety, was now a lifeline, and his True Vision Eye was an investment secured with Jack’s gold coins.

With a few pieces of Saint Quartz in his pocket, Charles couldn’t help but marvel at the twists of fate.

Wrapping himself snugly in his quilt, he closed his eyes, a content smile playing on his lips.

"Everything is going as planned!"

Meanwhile, in Jack’s room, the man who had orchestrated these events reclined in a big coat, the remnants of his workout still lingering in the air. He puffed on a cigar, his demeanor calm and relaxed.

His gaze fell upon the lovely girl sleeping soundly in his arms, and a flicker of tenderness softened his features.

Blowing out a cloud of smoke, Jack leaned closer, planting a playful kiss on the woman’s face. A confident grin spread across his lips as he murmured, "Don't worry, my dear. Everything is as planned!"
