Chapter 1 - A Day in Unitea

Chapter 1 - A Day in Unitea

In the land of Lyricna it was just about as common to be born with some sort of special ability as it would to be born with nothing special at all. A fifty-fifty chance. The abilities of those who were gifted weren't always the most useful either. Some of these things had downfalls, and some had no issues at all.

Unitea was a village in this land of Lyricna, not too big and not too small. There wasn't anything too interesting or special about this specific village but the bonds of everyone who lived their were strong. Everyone treated each other like family. There was rarely conflict and when there was, it was always resolved quickly.

"Just. . .a little bit longer!" A girl said, while striking a tree with a wooden sword repeatedly. She was sweating and breathing heavily but still wore a smile on her face.

After a few minutes more of hitting the tree, she backed up and sat right on the dirt and grass. She sat there and caught her breathe. A small blue bird flew by and landed on a branch of the tree she was previously striking against.

"Oh! Hello! I'm Mima, is this your home? I apologize for any inconvenience that may have caused!" She said to it.

The bird sang happily in reply.

"Ah. I still can't understand. ." She said with a small sigh. "But you don't seem upset.'"

Mima was one of the lucky fifty percent. She was born with a special power. She was able to communicate with animals and have them understand her. The issue with this though was that she was never able to understand what they said back. She first realized this through a puppy she had when she was younger. It listened perfectly to everything she said and was always perfectly loyal. He would sit, stay, and speak even with her not teaching him the commands in the first place. It was a bit of a pain only having one-way communication but she didn't mind too much. She thought she was already very lucky to have been gifted with a power in the first place.

She crawled over to a small bag she left by the tree and began to rummage through it. She pulled out a smaller bag and dumped a few seeds into her hand.

"As an apology, please accept this!" Mima said, raising her hand to the sky.

The bird swiftly flew down and landed on the side of her hand, pecking at her offering. She smiled brightly at the bird.

"Miiiiimmaaa!" A boy's called, causing Mima to jump and a little and the bird to fly away elsewhere.

"W- Oh! It's Domino!" Mima said. She picked up her bag and jogged over to her friend.

A few more people followed behind soon after.

"Oh! Domino and friends!" Mima corrected herself.

"Am I not worthy of being referred to by name?" A black haired boy asked while crossing his arms, putting an obviously faked saddened expression on his face. "I for one, think if our little group had a name it would be Forte and friends!" he continued.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Both Domino and Mima laughed, along with the other three who had followed behind Forte and Domino.

Mima smiled. This little group would gather pretty much every single day in this same spot. They were her dear friends and she believed it was fate that had brought them all together, and that they would never ever part.

Domino was a really fun guy to be around. He often didn't think before he spoke. He was loud and exuberant and almost always brimming with energy. He had yellow cat-like eyes, messy brown hair, and a dark olive complexion. He always wore a pair of goggles on his face for a reason that Mima never got an answer to. Domino didn't have any sort of powers but he didn't seem to be upset by that fact.

And then there was Forte. He was fairly pale skin and black hair that seemed to swish to one side. He had dark blue eyes as well. He could be a bit full of himself, but he wasn't rude. He was also quite the flirt, to both boys and girls alike. He enjoys being the center of attention and Mima didn't mind letting that happen as long as it made him happy. He is able to levitate anything that he's physically strong enough to carry.

Fortuna was one of the girls who was following behind. She was a quiet yet friendly girl. She treasures her friends very much and gets lonely easily, though she doesn't admit it. That doesn't prevent her friends from realizing the truth though. She has fair skin and black hair in two buns on her head, along with blueish gray eyes. She doesn't always show too much emotion on her face. Fortuna was gifted with the power of time travel. There is a drawback to this, she never knows how far forward or back she will end up, and doing this uses a large amount of energy. Fortuna doesn't plan on using it too often because of these reasons and also her strong belief in fate.

Next was Hero. He was a timid boy who lacks confidence, but still enjoys being included and being with everyone in the group. He has brown hair and brown eyes as well to match, as well as lightly tanned amber skin. He has freckles across his nose and cheeks. Hero is easily flustered and not exactly the bravest, but he has a very kind heart. He was gifted with the ability to enhance plant growth. He isn't too sure of the extent of his own power since the only thing he uses it for is for gardening.

Hana was a big sister figure to the group. She was gentle, kind, and encouraging. She has long light brown hair and light purple eyes, along with a light pink flower she keeps in her hair. She has olive skin and a warm welcoming smile. She has no powers, but seems to be very skilled in weaponry and combat. Even so, she is a gentle and peace loving girl who believes violence to be a last resort.

And last, there was Mima. She had dark brown usually messy hair, with a red headband placed on her head. She never left her house without her bright red scarf which she claimed made her feel hero-like. She has dark brown eyes and tanned skin. She has a never-give-up attitude and has an endless amount of optimism.

"Mima? Is something wrong? You seem lost in thought?" Fortuna asked in her quiet voice.

"Nope! Nothing at all!" Mima replied with a smile, she was simply taking a moment to admire her friends.

Fortuna simply nodded in reply and said nothing more, giving a small smile.

The group met almost every day in this same spot in the woods. Mima would usually continue on with her "hero training" and try to get everyone to join in with her. Though, it was rare for everyone to actually do so. They would stay in there almost all day, talking, playing games, just enjoying their time together.

Ah. What a truly peaceful life I have. Mima thought to herself.

Mima opened her mouth to start a friendly conversation but was soon cut off.

There were yelling, screaming, and many unpleasant noises that interrupted her. A looked of shock and fear appeared on her face, and she soon saw that everyone else seemed to wear the same expression.

Ah. My peaceful life.
