The Theocracy / Cult: General Rules
Mortal: a named being who
1) perceives time as linear
2) knows the difference between dead and alive
3) has used this knowledge to conclude that they, themselves, are alive
4) is not a conduit, incarnate, or titan
Immortal: a named being who keeps their sentience and memories when they “die” (move through worlds) (IE—titans, conduits, incarnates)
Lady: a named being of the fifth dimension.
1) an incarnate plays host to a lady while the lady occupies a world
2) from a host, a lady can communicate and interact with mortals and immortals
3) ladies are thought to be essences of the web, moving through time non-linearly from host to host
4) the God King’s Testaments name seven essences: LOVE, DEATH, WAR, HOPE, FATE, LIFE, LOSS.
Universal Law
The time web : Five-dimensional continuum: Four worlds and non-linear time. three dimensions of space, two directions of travel.
Worlds Directions of Travel Hel ⇩ Lands of the Living ⇳ Lands of the Dead ⇳ The Fjords ⇧
Golden threads: Make up the fifth dimension. As ladies move through the web, their presence connects mortals to worlds, events, moments, and other beings. Immortals are also subject to the ladies’ threads and are thus confined to linear time (experienced as consecutive lifespans with mental aging and growth).
Figures of Lore
Freddy McJones (mortal): Cult leader 2112 C.E. (circa -1200 GKE). Took 5,000 followers into an underground bunker. Nuclear war destroyed the world seven times over, obliterating all civilization and permanently altering the climate and landscape. Every soul in the lands of the living is believed to descend from Freddy’s 5k.
The God King (immortal): The [ ] that led the believers out of the bunker. It looked like Freddy. Some believers thought it was Freddy (and became the Xobratic tribe.)
The God King’s Testaments state that there are three ways to get a lady’s attention in the lands of the living: interacting with (or becoming) a titan, conduit, or incarnate. Each lady uses the golden threads in different ways:
- Lady Love – connects mortals to each other with golden threads. Threads help mortals and immortals understand, connect with, and manipulate the emotions of others.
- Lady Death – connects mortals to the lands of the dead with golden threads. Threads allow immortals to rule the lands of the dead and include responsibility over dead mortals.
- Lady War – connects mortals to their flesh vessels with golden threads. Threads push time through wounds, bodies, and damaged tissue to facilitate healing.
- Lady Hope – connects mortals to their physiology, sociology, and psychology. Threads facilitate all physical and emotional development.
- Lady Fate – connects mortals to the time web with golden threads. Threads allow mortals to enter the time web and seek information about the past and future.
- Lady Life – connects mortals to the lands of the living with golden threads. With air, food, and water, these threads allow flesh to achieve sentience.
- Lady Loss – connects mortals to Hel with golden threads. These threads determine which mortals are sentenced to eternal damnation after death.
Some believe there is an eighth lady in the web (Lady Lust) who was once L’Angly. The Darkblooms maintain that L’Angly is trapped in Hel, and they can keep him there.
Some believe there is an eighth lady who connects mortals to The Fjords. This has never been empirically confirmed.
Empirical Figures
Titans (immortal) –Used the Testaments to tie themselves to a lady. Conquered the fifth dimension by putting metaphorical leashes on the beings (ladies) that exist there.
Titans use the golden threads for power, status, and immortality in whatever world they find themselves in.
According to the Testaments, titans can travel between three worlds (Hel, lands of the living, lands of the dead). They are confined to linear time and singular presence wherever—and whenever—they appear.
Although titans are not named in the holy books, analysts have attributed the status to seven historical figures:
L’Angly – tied to Lady Love – in Hel
Yosif – tied to Lady Death – ruling the lands of the dead
Vandame – tied to Lady War – whereabouts unknown
Poussin – tied to Lady Hope – presumably in Hel, according to Galtero
Baume – tied to Lady Fate – trapped in the time web
Leclere – tied to Lady Life – stays close to the lands of the living
Marix – tied to Lady Loss – technically an incarnate not a titan, bound to the will of Lady Loss.
The Lands of the Living
Conduit – a mortal who can converse with a titan’s essence. It is fairly easy to become a conduit in L’Anglimar (pick a lady). A lady can have multiple conduits.
Lord – A conduit who can speak with a lady directly, instead of going through a titan. Lords also have jurisdiction and responsibilities in the land of the living. They lead churches.
Incarnate (sometimes called lady incarnate) – Ladies possess the spouses or relatives of lords. Those relatives are called incarnates.
203 GKE Lords
- Lord of Love – Audrin. Paints his three muses (Adalaide, Brid Naya’il, Jebah) and converses with Lady Love via their portraits. King of L’Anglimar, makes legislative decisions through consulting the muses. Uses art, prayer, and ritualized practices to keep L’Angly in Hel. Gets the tiebreaking vote in the Septemvirate (no Lord of Loss, so only six).
- Lord of Death – Killian. Converses with Yosif (who concurrently rules the lands of the dead) and Brid Naya’il (Lady Death incarnate). General of L’Anglimar’s army; consults dead officers for tactics and strategy as he enforces L’Anglimar’s borders in the lands of the living. Appointed a duke of the Second Circuit when he was eighteen, essentially handing over his family’s territory so he could focus on the military.
- Lord of War – Gregoire. Oversees all medi-centers across the realm. His daughter and her husband are duke and duchess of the Third Circuit, and his son (Bardic) occasionally takes his place in the Septemvirate. Retired doctor; heals with prayer.
- Lord of Hope – Galtero. Acting duke of the Fourth Circuit. Oversees all judicial precedent, verdicts, and enforcement realm-wide . Runs the prison system and oversees whips (different from soldiers, closer to local police). Works closely with Killian but focuses on inward threats instead of outward.
- Lord of Fate – Lefe. Consults with Fate’s incarnate (Genevieve) and titan (Baume) to navigate the time web. Future-reader. The Fifth Circuit is self-governed—when the Septemvirate is not in session, Lefe spends most of his time blowing glass, weaving, and studying the Testaments.
- Lord of Life – Ra’mes. Rules the Sixth Circuit and oversees all banking systems realm-wide. Responsible for monetary/tax policy, budget, and the minting of coinage.
203 GKE Incarnates
- Lady Love = Adalaide Darkbloom (diseased)
- Lady Death = Brid Naya’il (diseased)
- Lady War = Aurore Vandame
- Lade Hope = Dulce Poussin
- Lady Fate = Genevieve Darkbloom
- Lady Life = Aui Leclere
- Lady Loss = Marix (diseased)
-
Incarnates can call upon their ladies to navigate the web and move through worlds. They experience time linearly as they walk through past and present. They are their ladies, but their ladies are not them. (In other words, all of Brid Naya’il is Lady Death, but Lady Death is comprised of infinitely more than Brid Naya’il).
Incarnates and conduits “go rogue” by obeying the will of titans instead of their ladies.
- Historically, going rogue has not led to good things.
