Prologue: Dusking Repose

Prologue:

The world was a hellish place; bodies scattered the ground, waters turned red of blood, and cries of the earthly beings. They created this plane and possess the power to destroy and alter it in any way. Unfortunately for the innocent objects living in the domain of the gods, they are the ones that are affected most from the love, hate and vengeance of the deities.

Lu Huanyu glanced at the five great, unfathomable beings in the distance. A battle of gods can not be intervened by the mere. He shook his head as he turned back to his current job of transporting the innocent to a safe place. A long train of carts, belongings and crying slowly trudged over the once teeming hill. Even though the exodus proceeded far away from the battle, occasional energy from the battle still sent shockwaves to kilometers away. Lu Huanyu blocked yet another as the last unfortunate soul stepped behind him. Then he turned around, facing the hell.

“Still not choosing to reveal yourself?” said Lu Huanyu as he readied himself.

The qi in his body started to flow more rapidly, manifesting into a dark green aura. And at the end of the road, a somewhat short figure in black cloak slowly revealed itself. Although Lu Huanyu has no weapon, his physical body is equivalent to the strongest of steels, sending out shockwaves with every blow. His style enables him to send his qi into objects and shatter them from the inside. The complete mastery of this method enables the user to send the qi through the air, exploding, imploding and pulsing the surrounding elements at will. The user also can manifest this energy within their strikes, with precision and timing, resulting in an explosive outcome.

Without any more words, the two forces clashed in a flurry of fists and blades. The opponent handled a particularly long knife, almost a shortsword, and unleashed precise and acute strikes to weak points forcing Lu Huanyu to constantly be in a defensive position. He quickly adapted and scattered his qi into the surrounding space and …

”爆“

The space in which the qi was positioned imploded and the opponent staggered, leaving a fatal flaw. Without any delay, Lu Huanyu followed with a strike to the stomach, sending the subject through a large tree. He charged towards the body preparing another deadly combo. In a somewhat frantic way of backing Lu Huanyu off, the cloaked figure flung his knife towards his attacker but just barely missed, effectively making himself more vulnerable. During fights such as this, where both sides are among the strongest, a single insignificant mistake can cause a death sentencing result, as like the current one.

Lu Huanyu concentrated his qi, refining it into more of an explosive substance than before. The attack made the ground shake and sent the terrain erupting out. The dust settled and within the large crater, one remained upright. A slight breeze; a sharp gleam. Lu Huanyu’s body subconsciously turned around to shield him from danger and the shining point of a blade came into contact with his arms. His qi rapidly circulated to the arms, to try and neutralize the pressure. The clash of the two objects projected energy waves and surges of elements to the surrounding area, leaving half the mountain in distress.

The cloaked figure revealed himself and warped his body to the knife following with a low slice to the calf of Lu Huanyu, causing him to falter. Catching this window, the attacker released a powerful uppercut and roundhouse, successfully wounding the other. Lu Huanyu coughed out splatters of blood; the blow was not fatal but dealt sufficient damage to weaken him. He readied himself again, staring at his attacker standing a distance away. The enemy was too fast, surpassing a normal qi user of his level. Lu Huanyu was the first to take action this time and as he released a vast capacity the enemy released his plan, then attempted to hinder the process . It was too late.

A rumbling had sounded slowly, breaking away ground, covering a large radius, and exploding, damaging all within the circle. This was Lu Huanyu’s crowd control technique of his style, but his extensive mastery over the skill allowed him to compress the area of the effective range in return, gaining a substantial increase in damage. Though this mere 200 meters of space was easily traversable in a second by the attacker, he had been caught lacking attention. The force of hundreds of erupting blows to every inch of his skin and every bone in his body resulted in a fatal outcome. Lu Huanyu halted this large-scale attack and finished the attacker off by injecting his qi into the core, consciousness and veins, then igniting it.

This was extremely effective as all three points are crucial parts of a martial artist. The core, located near the stomach, stores the qi and refines it along with many other functions. The conscious; something that is located near the brain and controls the basic actions of the body along with the soul. Lastly, veins allow the qi to be flowed and directed throughout the body.

Before he could take another breath, a voice sounded behind our restless fighter, “A decent performance but defeating Ying Shizhen isn’t enough”

Lu Huanyu slowly turned around to see an immaculate man in a rich, wine purple robe, holding a ling yao feather fan. Looking at the figure, Lu Huanyu had a feeling he might dose off right then and there.

“You’re from the Lucid Dreams Sect,” Lu Huanyu recognised, “Able to pull people into dreams and kill them while they are asleep”

The man nodded and began to cast spells. Lu Huanyu rushed to stop the process but before that, the Lucid Dream user threw the incantation at him. The incantation came in contact with the defensive qi in front of the subject’s body but made no cessation. Almost instantly, Lu Huanyu closed his eyes and fell into a slumber. A distance away from the resting body, the attacker smirked and began to initiate the dream. It seems to the observer of the battle that the characters facing in a standoff started to sleep: one flat on their face and the other in a meditation pose. In the dream on the other hand, the dreaming person might be encountering life threatening or traumatic experiences cast by the user.

In the domain of the fabricated reality, Lu Huanyu carried a woven basket picking up medicine on a hillside. Birds chirped nearby, singing their joyous song, a small stream rolled down between the slope, sounding a rippling tone to the surrounding. Sweat rolled down the boy’s forehead. He stopped to wipe it. Something caught his attention; a small root of some sort jutting out the ground. Lu Huanyu rushed to pick it up and placed it gingerly into the basket. A few hours passed and the container slowly filled up with various different earthleys plants of medicinal value.

The return home was rocky and the basket was heavy. Such high altitudes were hard to reach even for an adult nonetheless by a boy. Lu Huanyu breathed deeply and trudged down the stone covered path, almost running to get home before dusk. Elders of the village told of evils and monsters lurking after the sun has set. Trees blurred pass as the boy bolted faster and faster, the sun steadily moved to the horizon. He could finally see it in the distance as the lights of the village became clearer and clearer. A grin crept into a smile as Lu Huanyu neared the entrance to the settlement and stepped in the gates.

“You a seem happy today,” a man cleaning the front steps called out to him as Lu Huanyu scurried by, “Don’t trip, you’re running too fast”

Lu Huanyu opened the door to the small wooden hut he lived in and closed it behind. A shape lay on the bed, sickened, and a somewhat aged man sat near the body. He took the basket full of herbs and medicine from the boy and began to brew. A bitter aroma gradually rose as the man proceeded with the process of refining the medicine. Lu Huanyu patiently waited beside the door, observing the procedure of grinding, cutting, and cooking the variety of ingredients. And finally, the doctor brought the mixture to the wilting figure under thin cloth sheets of the bed.

“She should be better if not recovered in a few weeks,” said the man as he handed the small ceramic jar holding the medicine, “remember feed the medicine to your sister the medicine once every two days, one spoon per serving”

Lu Huanyu gazed in admiration as the doctor strided out the house, into the distance. He turned towards the pallid figure on the bed and a tear rolled down his skinny face.

“You’re going to be cured!” he laughed as more drops streamed down his cheeks, “this can be over!”

Over the passing weeks, the young girls’ face slowly started to warm up, returning to its original pink hue, her skin returned to the youthful and plumpness. The rejuvenation process was visible and soon the girl was once again a sunny part of the village. Lu LiAn was her name and although the family of two were impoverished, relying on the brother’s hard work of collecting rare herbs or natural objects in the hills, the girl seemed cheerful. Gaining popularity for her bright nature, neighbours often give the two children something to aid them. With the occasional donations and small money they received, the siblings were able to survive for the time being.

Lu Huanyu looked down to see a beautifully crafted fan splitting his chest. The Art of the Lucid Dream captivates on the desire, the regret, the hate, the love, the emotions and manifests into a dream where all the factors fabricate into something to emotionally destroy the opponent. Once they have been affected, the user strikes the soul of the target, inflicting damage based on how much they were influenced. A critical strike, in this case, you could say the blow was soul shattering. Lu Huanyu looked up; the previously lively village shifted to a disastrous sight. A gloomy, misty atmosphere cloaked the vicinity of the small settlement. Everything was eerily silent with the closed doors, lightless windows and the absence of any noise at all. He started to walk forward in the barely visible road opening up to the center where a small stone fountain sat.

Unfortunately, the once serene sight was disturbed by the remains of people all lying face-down, split in half, head to toe. He continued forward to a small wooden hut, gazed at it for a moment and decided to open the door. Suddenly, he was carrying a basketful of herbs again and an old man appeared on a chair. The boy handed the medicine to the doctor then waited patiently for the brew to complete.

The old man stood up, throwing the semi-finished medicine on the floor and told the boy, “Do not trust strangers boy, I have gotten what I came here for”

Lu Huanyu stood in stupor as the said ‘doctor’ turned and left. He had given the man precious herbs of medicinal value and all the saved money. It seemed as if the outside had gotten even more dull and ghostly by the second. And only now the boy realised as he ran, kicking and screaming, trying to deny this tragic incident. In the end, an old man’s strength is still superior to a child’s, as Lu Huanyu fell to the ground again. He looked in the distance; the villain slowly walked away.

Abruptly, the crunching gravel beneath the old doctor’s shoes stopped, and a bone chilling sound of flesh ripping sounded.

“Little rat, See? I have helped you take revenge,” a distorted voice screeched at Lu Huanyu.

The boy looked up to see a long, slender white figure swallowing the previous doctor: a mist demon. Before he could react, the monster charged, talons out, preparing to deliver a fatal blow. Lu Huanyu braced himself and closed his eyes preparing for death. A sharp pain but not life threatening. The boy turned to see a weak young girl grasped in the hands of the demon.

“DON’T TOUCH HER!” Lu Huanyu roared as a singular pallid claw impaled the scrawny body and tore it apart.
