CHAPTER TWELVE - Shadows of the Night

I sit on the floor, taking deep breaths to relax, the earthy smell of the room filling my lungs. I’m not sure how much time has passed since Romeo was last here. When I open my eyes, the room is pitch black, with only the faintest hint of moonlight seeping through the window. I hear murmurs from outside, soft and eerie. Peeking out, I see three shadows dancing around in the village streets. Maybe the rumors are true.

One of the shadows moves closer to my window, its form shifting and flickering like a candle flame in the wind. I hear whispers, but the words are unclear, lost in the air. My curiosity gets the better of me, and I inch closer to the window, feeling the cool air against my skin as I press my face near. The shadow seems to notice, pausing for a moment before signaling me to come out. I stare for what feels like an eternity, frozen—not out of fear, but out of sheer disbelief.

I finally break free from my trance, shaking my head as I step away from the window. I sit down again, lost in thought, trying to make sense of what I just witnessed. Glancing back out the window, I see that the shadows have vanished. The street is empty, and the only sound is the distant hum of the wind.
